@Lost in the age of Aerostar: of course both attempts to stand up to the Chinese government met similar fates.

Well, obviously, this is now his entire plot... so it's his job to pay for someone to build a nice set of switchbacks? Or d'you reckon the contractor would head right on up and shunt his car off with the 'dozer?

They're taking a page from R. H. Thomson, Seattle City Engineer. The "Denny Regrade" fundamentally changed the landscape of Seattle by smoothing out the geography. There were a number of land owner holdouts. So he regraded everything EXCEPT the holdouts. This is the (temporary) result.

EDIT: It wasn't Denny, it was Thomson.

I'd like to give a serious pat on the back to the construction manager/boss for a wonderfully hilarious sense of humor.

It states that it's a Chrysler, but I don't recognize it. Anyone know what car we're looking at?

The white surrender flag next to it seems approriate. Are we sure it's not a French car?

    Stood there coldly
    Shiverin’ in the sun
Felt like one of a billions
    Felt like number one
    The height of summer
    I’d never felt that strong
    Like a pile of dirt

    I was eighty-four
    Didn’t have a care
    Working with crayons
    Not a dime to spare
    But I was fat and
    lazy everywhere
    Like a pile of dirt

    My bank loan was denied
My cars were pieces of crap
    My company had no purpose
    My steps slow and small
    But I held firmly
To what I felt was right
    Like a pile of dirt

    (But the Chinese envied me)

Like a pile of dirt, I was sad as I could be
Like a pile of dirt, there's nothing useful about me
Like a pile of dirt, but the Chinese envied me
    Like a pile of dirt

    (but the Chinese envied me)

    And I stood arrow straight
    Unencumbered by the weight
Of all those car czars and their schemes
I stood proud, I stood tall
    High above it all
    Because the Chinese envied me

    Eighty years now
    Where’d they go?
    Eighty years
    I don’t know
    Sit and I wonder sometimes
    Where they’ve gone

    And sometimes late at night
When I’m bathed in the firelight
The moon comes callin’ a ghostly white
And I recall, because the Chinese envied me

Like a pile of dirt, I was sad as I could be
Like a pile of dirt, there's nothing useful about me
Like a pile of dirt, but the Chinese envied me
    Like a pile of dirt

Like a pile of dirt, I was sad as I could be
Like a pile of dirt, there's nothing useful about me
Like a pile of dirt, but the Chinese envied me
    Like a pile of dirt

    (But the Chinese envied me...)

You go, Chrysler. China, stay classy.
