Man in Black meet the Man on Crack! I think this guy watched the Wacky Racers too much as a kid, and I keep envisioning the Ant Hill Mob flogging this thing down the street. And is that a fake blower I see peeking out of the hood - if so, then this constitutes a hate crime
Whatever, guys. I like stuff like this. Can't see the workmanship in the itty bitty photo, and even if it's top notch the $4500 is probably way out of line, but I have a lot of respect for someone who dares to be different.
Good on you, Corvedillavalier dude.
But, come on! No photos of that split window rear??
@beercheck - Commentin' Dirty: More like "Caveatte" as in "Caveat Emptor."
Actually, when I read the headline, I thought it said "Men in Black" and was looking for the alien connection. But I guess with 6 degrees of separation you can get from Tommy Lee Jones to Loretta Lynn etc and thence to Mr. Cash.
You might almost have me if there were a decent engine under the hood. However, what you're getting is a Cavalier with a Cavalier engine and some fancy body work. What good is a car like this if you have to make sure you're doing at least 10 over the speed limit before you reach a hill, just to guarantee you will make it up the hill?
And how do you explain this to someone interested in cars? They ask you what the hell it is, and you have to start off with "Well, you see, it's a Cavalier..." Then they just walk off to go look at something from less embarrassing origins.
@RamblinReck89: Nothing wrong with the output of some '99 Cavalier engines. If it was the 2.4L, it's making 150hp, which makes a quick little car. Even if it was the 2.2L, that's 115, which is still perfectly workable.
Unfortunately, this guy's ad specifies a "2.6 engine". Beats the hell outta me..
Crack pipe but with the proviso that it would so much fun to own this thing and drive it a few times a year with a bag over your head. Just like I dress up like a...never mind...
The engineerd Fair Market Value (eFMV patent pending) can not understand this car, so it will be taking a rest today.
Instead, I'm going to speak from the gut. I'm going to shoot from the hip and tell you why this car deservs a vote of Nice Price from each and every person on here.
First, let's look at what it isn't. It isn't bland. It isn't the same as anything anyone else on your block will be driving. It isn't going to be overlooked by passersby. It isn't like anything else on the face of this planet.
You see, you don't necessarily buy this as your daily driver. However, you do buy it to be unique. To show the world that there are still people who look at the automobile as something more than an appliance. In a sea of Camrys, Malibus and Civics, we have to show people that they can and should expect more from their car than just a box of mush. In fact, as Jalops we have a duty to proselytize the world in our ways.
Let's now look at what it is. It's unique. It's polarizing. It's going to get looks.
Whether those looks are of disgust or in delight, the car has done its job. Some of the greatest artists have been the ones that force people to make a decision. Do you love this car or not? Whether you love it or hate it, this car has done its job. It has forced you to make a decision. This, my friends, it what makes it great. In the same vein as Porsche with the Panamera, or BMW with the Bangle Butt, this car has forced humanity to stop, look, decide and discuss.
With the Woodward Dream Cruise coming up, I hope someone buys this and drives up Woodward. It's not exactly my style, but I can appreciate it.
@engineerd: Your argument makes a lot of sense, and you almost had me convinced, until I remembered that this was underpinned by a Cavalier...A Cavalier, Mr. Engineerd! No sir, in my opinion this is the definition of lipstick on a pig - or in this case, clown makeup on a pig. On the other hand, $4,500 is not a bad price for someone's first car. Anybody out there with a soon to be 16 year old? This would be a great way to delay their love life.
@HammSammich: At $4500 it is not crack pipe. You are getting a one-of-a-kind car with decent mileage. If it was much more than that, I would have been all over the Crack Pipe bandwagon.
Besides, it's not as bland as the Cavalier it started off as.
This car was at the Wisconsin Dells Car show in the spring. It is so clapped out and brutal words can't describe the mess it is in.
It was in the "swap meet" section and there is no possible way I have anything I'd swap to put that mess in my yard. Yes, yard, on jack stands, next to the washer and dryer.
I don't think he even knows what parts he has there. I'm pretty sure that those aren't '49 Caddy fins they look more like '59 Ford, the mirrors don't look like '63 Vette either. And how do you get a Cavalier titled as a '53 Chevy?!? With all the added weight does this thing even move under its own power?

Rolling down the road,
Best notify my next of kin,
This wheel shall explode.
Hopefully.

The "seller" must have the $4500 in the wrong column. I might be willing to take it off of his hands if he paid me $4500.
