Wait a sec.. wait i sec.. i GET IT..

posession is 9/10ths of the law.. just so happens that the car is on the ground the day GM goes bankrupt.. meaning.. no one from GM really gives a crap about one engineering sample sitting on the frame in some guys driveway.. no tow company will pick it up, because they can't be sure they'll be paid for the tow or the storage.

Engineer is probably moving this thing to a secret shed to claim that "someone picked it up.. i thought GM sent the tow truck"..

in 20 years you'll see it at barret jackson as "engineering sample that survived the crusher.. it's a survivor folks"

bastard.. got a free collectible camaro!

Alas, picture the following scene--late at night, engineer awakens to:

    click; click/clack click/clack click/clack--

    Honey? Do you hear something?

    Sound stops. Then:

    click; click/clack click/clack click/clack--

    Honey? There it is again.

@Wes: "Is this what greater Detroit is like now?"

Sadly the blight is slowly spreading out from downtown. I've seen some real nice neighborhoods go to shit over the last 6 or so years.

@Formerlythegreatestdriver: Yet, I still come home after 6 weeks in Germany to find my aluminum siding intact. Seriously, beyond blatant insurance fraud, what does it take to get that shit stolen? I want new siding, but it would be great if someone were to help out a bit.

This is what happens when rednecks become affluent.. they move into your neighbourhood, buy a camaro, and promptly turn it into a lawn ornament, before you know it, they're building a rickety porch, which they'll put a swing on, where they'll sit with a shot gun, yellin at you and throwing old milwaukee cans at you because you look funny, while their dogs are breeding under said porch.

Apparently the Camaro is so porcine it crushed the egg crates they thoughtfully wedged under the rocker panels.

On a side note, how did they even lift those rims with all the wheel weights on 'em.

I'm surprised wheel thieves don't use those big-ass aluminum NASCAR jacks that only require like two pumps. Using just about any modern "widowmaker" stock jack is a tedious and dangerous proposition.

Side note: I've honestly not worked on a car with protruding threaded lugbolts in a long time, I thought they were obsolete in favor of the integrated/threaded lugnuts.

You eloquently put that you haven't mount a wheel with studs, er, played with studs in a while, er striped some nuts on a stud, er dammit..

@Turbineguy: I'm trying to think of every tire I've changed/rotated in the last 10 years...mostly VW, Mercedes, and Saturn. All had lug bolts with a little hubcentric ring.

Which is kind of a pain if the rotors aren't already rusted to the hub, because the rotor, wheel, and hub have to line up perfectly or the bolt won't go in. Some cars have a little set-screw that prevents rotor movement, though.

@Ash78: yea.. i've always wondered.. what kinda PITA is it to replace one of those bolts if you strip the hole..

studs it's easy and about a $2 fix.. bang out stud, put in new stud.. bolts however.. i dunno.. replace wheel bearing??

Seems like pointless german engineering to me.

oh ya.. +1 on being able to hang the wheel off the studs while getting the nuts on.
