    I can take care of your caterpillar problem. There are these lizards that love to eat caterpillars.


    But isn't that a bit short-sighted? What happens when we're overrun by lizards?


    No problem. We simply release wave after wave of Chinese needle snakes. They'll wipe out the lizards.


    But aren't the snakes even worse?


    Yes, but we're prepared for that. We've lined up a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on snake meat.


    But then we're stuck with gorillas!


    No, that's the beautiful part. When wintertime rolls around, the gorillas simply freeze to death.

    @Deartháir: Hahaha...reminds me that I bought my first pressure washer a couple months ago (just a basic electric one, 1500psi). Shortly thereafter my wife and I had to think of every possible thing that could be pressure washed. We went through a phase where--between the shop vac and pressure washer--nothing outside of the house was cleaned by hand. Then the water bill arrived and the novelty wore off.

    @Ash78: *jots down a note that Ash78 is married... and lives in a house, not an apartment* Eventually we'll figure out who the enigma that is Ash78 really is. Preferably in time for the Great Jalopnik Road Trip that A Strolling Player is planning.


    Hangon a second. "Water bill"? Seriously, you get a bill for water? Like... is it metered or something? They track how much you use? Sorry, if this seems facetious, it's not intended that way... this is just something I've never heard of. We pay annual utilities, sure, but not for our amount of water usage.


    I've tried to buy a pressure-washer a few times now, and got "talked out of it" each time by my significant other. Then, I got rid of my significant other and my house at the same time, so my main obstacle and my main needd for it vanished at the same time.

    @Deartháir: Yep, it differs by area (apartment complexes are often on a single meter, but single family homes are almost all on separate meters). All of them are charged based on usage, so at least you have some personal control over consumption...but not the rates, unfortunately.


    Electric bill: Once a month, monitored by a meter on the side of the house. Traditionally read monthly by a person going door to door, but now on satellite/cellular uplink.


    Gas bill (natural gas): Same as electric, but manually read, since it's a mechanical meter.


    Water bill: Same as gas, read monthly, sometimes just estimated.


    I've honestly never heard of any other arrangement...I assume you're in an apartment, right? That probably explains most of the difference. But aren't single-family, detached homes in Canada monitored the same way?

    @Ash78: Oh, and the water bill also covers the use of the sewer lines leaving the house, since their usage is obviously related and overlapping most of the time.
