Mmmmh, Montreal. Back in August I had the chance to drive one. It had 2 of the 4 mufflers removed, what a sound. The car was very tight on the road and easy to handle when up to speed, thanks to a suspension and wheel upgrade. Although I didn´t push too hard as I had too much respect. The owner gave me a short demo of what the car is capable to do (100mph on rural roads), one of the moments I´ll never forget. In a brain short circuit I even uttered the inevitable phrase "better than s...x", shame on me. #bookreviews
@Alfisted: I'll tell you my nightmares are. It's urinating uncontrollably (in dreams). Now do Alfa Romeo Montreals do that as well? Any person with that experience? #bookreviews
My dad is a cartoonist who draws cars in a comic for Street Machine magazine Australia. I've always been inspired by the way he can draw a cartoon car but still make it look like a proper car even though it might have a ridiculous looking 10 story high Mr Gasket scoop 300" rims.
I couldn't find a car drawing but here's his interpretation of electronics from a column in Silicon Chip magazine about a TV repair man's stories...
Damn, that is good stuff. I really wish I could draw like that. Damn teachers always slapping my pencil when I was young. Trying to draw cars I liked. Trying to draw awesome engines. So many ideas in my head and can't put them on paper without it looking like I just drank a fifth of Scotch before I drew it. They slapped the drawing right out of me, Bastards. My friggin English teacher did that to me all the time in High School.
"Son, dreaming about cars isn't going to do anything to help you in the future."
Ya, ya old Bastard, bite me, I make my damn living off them now. What the hell are you doing? Sitting at your desk still trying to teach the meaning of the Grapes of Wrath. I got your wrath right here ya Bastard. Glad I threw up on his car one drunkin' night.
Damn repressed memories, I'm going drinking right now, that will dull the pain.
@ptmeyer84 - Prancing Moose Edition: My automotive list is short. I want to get the Cars of the Soviet Union book that Murilee reviewed a couple weeks ago.
Right now I'm reading John Adams by David McCullough. Excellent book about the founding of our nation. Interesting view of what our Founding Fathers went through and why our Constitution is the way it is. It should be required reading in every high school in America. I think if more of these books were read instead of just a teacher droning on, our country would be a little better off.
Interesting. When I was looking to apply to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena for a transportation design major, I mentioned that I had come from an engineering background to one of the professors (he had worked for Fiat and BMW before), and he didn't exactly look like he was cheering me on.
"Engineering and design are two completely different philosophies," he told me. "It's two separate mindsets. If you're going to go for an engineering degree first, then it's going to be a lot of hard work getting you out of that rational mindset."
I didn't end up applying there, but I always thought it was funny: how designers and engineers work in their own little bubble, one coming up with fantastical imaginative designs, the other reigning them in with practicality and efficiency, until the result is a mishmash of compromises. Glad not everybody feels this way at least, however.
Oh, and here's a hint: the best-proportioned wheelbase of a car is equal to the width of two and a half wheels. That's another thing he told me.

I should start reading more. My book collection and to-read list is growing and I'm not doing much to slow it down.

OK, I better get off my soap box now.
