2010 Cadillac SRX: Part One |
06/29/09
I'm really liking the brand's face lately. Caddies have got a lot of presence and pure big balls American style about them.
BUT: Look at the SRX side on, and it loses Cadillac's menace and gains a sedative quality about it. I could really get some sleep with that parked next to my bed. I'm not too fond of the arse either, too Korean.

I understand it's a good buy on behalf of Cadillac, but it just doesn't feel right.

I think if you take the full breadth of Jalopnik's editorial into account, it should be pretty clear that our integrity and ability to speak our minds is beyond reproach.
Only a couple of weeks ago I gave the Jetta TDI a pretty mixed review right smack in the middle of a big VW campaign:

Obviously, as an ad buyer I'd love to have the space right next to the review. You've got a link right back from a location where people will be discussing your product.
There are always going to be cynics out there that'll accept any explanation for why a domestic (or whatever) product could get a good review, other than the fact that it's actually good.
Just, you know, keep it real.

"Cadillac wanted me to drive the new SRX so badly that they flew me to Vegas and gave me a gift card good for 'all the pleasures my heart desires'. While the peanut butter was delicious, the balloon animals were not as I hoped they'd be."

Anyway, I think the car is hideous.

Autoblog is two doors down on the left, just past the corporate sellout and troll signs. You can't miss it.

When you guys reviewed the Lexus RX 350 you said you hated crossovers. I was just trying to figure out if you only hate Toyota crossovers, or all crossovers.

Haha. What a silly paradox. Cars that are pretending to be trucks are now supposed to handle like cars. I'm not sure if pseudo truck buyers really care how their overgrown wagon handles.

The scary thing these days is they handle like cars until you push them (brakes, abrupt manuevers), at which point you realize you're driving a softly-sprung 4200lb car with a 12" lift kit and all season tires.

I especially love the vertical vents on both sides of the center console, very elegant.
ION, if a CUV can now be regarded as decent, you guys are going to have to create some kind of cool wall so we can keep up.

Do not want, but spiffy nonetheless.
How long until we get a CTW review?

Maybe Wert's just trying to make a family man out of you by repeatedly putting you in mom vehicles.

...but in all honesty, you're right. Not really in line with the audience. Of course, most of us don't really need convincing that a more Jalop vehicle (WRX wagon or something) is something we'd be interested in. i.e. it might not be the best move to preach to the choir, either.

Otherwise, nice looking vehicle for the segment.

Oh, geez. This won't end well.

Seriously.

*this comment is in no way meant to suggest that I would actually buy this car. As I've said before, they'll have to pry my Cherokee from my cold, dead hands. I'm just saying that in general I like to see the reviews of cars that I might actually consider buying some day.
