I'm actually really curious to see this car in person. The CTS sedan is already a good looking car and the coupe concept was really sharp. However, it's hard to say whether the production version of this sawed-off Caddy will share more in common with the AMC AMX or the AMC Gremlin.

Bad news for BMW and Porsche in particular. They are struggling with lower sales and with each other against Audi. Last thing they needed was a new car to contend with.
But isn't this GM cross competition with the CTSV Sedan, Pontiac G8, Corvette C6, Z06, ZR1, and Camaro SS? And personally think that they need to step back from the drawing table and consolidate what will sell, what is worth keeping and trim what will not get new buyers. In short, become more like Honda, VW and Ford. Cross brand competition is what helped doom GM in the first place. . . "Goodness all these RWD to choose from, guess I'll go buy that new 2010 Ford Mustang GT500 supersnake instead."

@IronicalBalls: No more so than, say, a BMW 1-Series and a Mini Cooper S cross-compete. Both have price ranges that overlap to a certain extent, but are marketed to, and purchased by, entirely different audiences. To start with, the Corvette is a strictly a two-seat, purist American sports car. Don't let the optional OnStar system fool you; it is a pure sports car. The CTS-V coupe, on the other hand, is more of a high-powered grand touring car. The Camaro SS may be fast, but the CTS-V coupe will handily outgun it, and so so with level of luxury expected of a new Cadillac. As for the CTS-V sedan, I doubt it; there will always be people who want the sexier, slinkier coupe as a style statement. Also, neither Honda nor VW have done all that well in product consolidation in the past ten years, and aren't doing all that well right now. Note the existence of the Acura ZDX, The new Acura TL side-by-side with the Acura RL, the upcoming Honda Crosstour, the VW New Beetle vs the VW Golf, etc.

@Syrax - in black for the Jezebanned: Which, despite the general complaints of Jalopnik about it's price, was actually a great car. Every magazine review indicated that it was better in many respects than the Mercedes SL. It was marketed to a completely different populace than the Corvette was, and so never competed with it for market share. It's only real failing was that Cadillac had yet to re-develop the brand cachet to justify the price of the XLR over the comparably priced SL. Also, the XLR is dead, removing any concerns about the CTS-V coupe competing with it.

I bet someone at GM looks at the pricing of the M6, and makes this JUST a little less. So, affordability will go out the window, they'll sell 6 of them to celebutards, and it'll be cancelled after 2 years citing lack of sales. :-\
