You can get a last-year-made Scion xA for less than that, and everything under the hood will have been made by Toyota in JAPAN. Plus, the 1.5L gas engine puts out a reasonably respectable 103 SAE horsepower. Plus you won't have to look at (barf) TURQUOISE while driving it. You won't have to worry about taking it out in January in upstate NY, and you won't have to worry about your buddy's new-to-him refrigerator scratching up the bed.
I think you would be better off just finding the nicest M-B 300D that you could, remove the trunk lid and you would have just as big a cargo "bed" and it wouldn't try to turn into an orange pile of rust.
Sounds like a hella deal to me. Maybe it's a lot for an old Rabbit, but it's cheaper than a new F150. With the diesel, it probably gets about 4x the gas milage. No. you can't carry all that much in it, but neither do most of the pickups I see driving around every day.
So, 90 percent of your experience is of driving a Rabbit around, which isn't all that bad.
Biggest drawback of the Rabbit pickup always was trying to drive up a steep hill when heavily loaded. That can get amusing.
A heavily loaded VW pickup with a manual driving around San Francisco all day...yes, I would definitely say that that would be a very special circle of Hell...
Whoever takes this car at that outrageous price will get to watch his investment literally evaporate. That car will oxidize to nothing now that it's been removed from whatever cocoon it's been in all these years.

But I'm calculating based on a certain number of lines of coke that should be included. Just for authenticity.
