    There's always some reason for the delay of the next Corvette generation. The last one that was on time was the '68.

    This isn't exactly surprising. The Corvette survived the Malaise Era, too. The real question is, "What kine of Corvette are we going to see?"

    A. A 148 hp wheezing shitbox.

    B. A 550 hp epitome of awesome.

    OK. So we get rid of a fast four door, (G8 GXP Pontiac) but we keep the much less practical fast two door (Chevy Corvette). I guess this makes sense to somebody. I am actually very happy that they aren't killing the Vette, but I don't think that a lot of those in the market for a G8 GXP are going to move upmarket to the CTS. Just saying.

    @DoctorNeinUndAbermalsNein: Dont worry, GM won't go too broke if the 5 G8 owners spend their money elseware. Have you seen any on the road?

    @cchannel ~ Canal Si: Oddly, yeah. I actually had trouble keeping up with one of the G8 GXP's I ran into until it hit twisties. Keep in mind, I drive a massaged R32. The GXP's rock man.

    @cchannel ~ Canal Si:

    I see them once or twice a day, actually. There is a white GT that I frequently wind up driving in the same lump of cars with on the way to work in the morning, and there is a black base model a few blocks down from me.

    While we will certainly lose the Pontiac G8, I would bet that we will see the same basic car return as a Chevrolet. There is just no way that they would waste that much development time and money like that; not even GM is that bad.

    And as long as it's the same basic car, who cares what badge is on it?

    @cchannel ~ Canal Si: Besides, what the heck does "won't go too broke" mean, anyway? Isn't the whole point that they ARE too broke?

    So, wait. Will someone who understands Corvette-lore explain this to me? They just came out with the ZR1. SO. Why are they working on a C7 that will be a derivative of an older model that isn't as fast?

    Did GM just go George Lucas on us?

    @jodark: C6 ZR1, it's still a sixth generation Corvette. Different engine/suspension/body panels does not a new generation make.

    @Karsten Von Tide of Man-stein: Indeed. C7 would imply a whole new platform. Or at least heavily revised one.

    Well that's good. Lord knows legions of Cobalt owners need something to brag about on Nissan Sentra forums.

    You cannot kill the Vette.

    Figured I might as well post this again (from yesterday):
