Remember that mystery Corvette concept we saw last month getting painted by the folks at Saleen for the new Transformers movie, Revenge of the Fallen? We've got new pictures of it today thanks to our friends over at the Don Murphy board by way of Seibertron. These new shots show not only the Corvette concept in all its silver-skinned beauty, but also show off the entire Autobot team, just sitting around and lounging about in the sun. There's the Beat and Trax, and Optimus and Ironhide and...man, we wish we had a job like that. But wait, is that another one behind it? What's going on? Two European Automakers Meet Decade's "Voluntary" CO2 Targets; Success!
Only two companies achieved the voluntary average CO2 target of 140 g/km that European automakers set for themselves in the late 1990's to avoid actual government sanctions. Fiat and Mini were the big winners with emissions of 138.2 and 139.6 g/km, respectively. The worst offenders were Porsche (275.6 g/km), Land Rover (249.2 g/km) and Jeep (218.7 g/km). More »

New Top Ten Stolen Cars List Shows Criminals Love The '90s
The National Insurance Crime Bureau just announced their list of the top ten most stolen cars, and surprisingly, most of them were cheaper older models from the 1990s. Forbes says it's because these cars' parts have a greater demand on the salvage market, which is probably true since every '95 Honda Civic we see on the road seems to be sporting a hood from some other Civic. Alfa Romeo Could Californicate, Build 8C Replacement Off Ferrari California
In a recent interview, Alfa Romeo's global marketing director, Sergio Cravero, expressed his desire to have an Alfa Romeo model based on the new 2009 Ferrari California. "It would be great if Ferrari let us do it... but they are very hard to convince." The potential model would be a replacement for Alfa's current dragon-bait halo cars, the 8C Competizione and 8C Spider. Of course, the 8C hasn't been a directly profitable model for Alfa, so we're thinking that they're hoping to actually make some money by mooching more from Ferrari for the next car. [autocar]

But the first thing you likely noticed was the new reflecto' bar bridging the LED rear lights that brings to mind the old air-cooled 911. All the other visual changes carry over from the rear-wheel-drive models, though as usual, the all-wheel-drive models have a slightly (just 1.73") wider stance. Could Ford Retool Truck Plants To Produce Euro Fords?
We hear many car-related rumors on a daily basis, but there's one that came across our desk today that's quite the whopper. Website Autosavant is claiming their sources within Ford are saying that three of the four plants shuttered after Ford's dramatic reorganization will be retooled to produce popular European models like the Ford Kuga and C-Max. From the Autosavant piece:Our sources at Ford say that Mr. Mulally has already made the decision to convert at least three truck/SUV production facilities in North America as soon as possible to produce Ford models currently sold in Europe, where Ford is renowned for its small cars. A 6-speed manual-equipped wagon that's big enough to hold all your enfants terrible, gets 34 mpg (US) and has hydropneumatic suspension? Of course it's not sold here. But the folks over at Popular Mechanics did get the chance to test a 2008 Citroën C5 during a rainy English holiday, discovering that the big Frenchie demonstrates "supreme competence in areas that most owners appreciate most often." That's not even the worst part. Even with the plummeting dollar, their optioned-out Exclusive model retails for the equivalent of $42,700. Suddenly, that 2009 Ford Flex doesn't seem like such a bargain, does it? No mention of the Citroen C5's patented Très Difficile seating system though.

Brabus Bullit Black Arrow Finally Goes On Sale, Takes Mercedes C-Class To The Extreme
No, that's not Darth Vader. Nope, it's the Brabus Bullit Black Arrow and trust us, it's got more in common with Vader than the Mustang variant with the same name. We showed you the new Brabus-built C-Class first back at the Frankfurt Auto Show a couple months ago, but now the Deutsch tuners of all things Daimler have just revealed that their newest Übermensch-motored Mercedes is now available for purchase in an orgasm of Bruce (don't believe us? Check the press release out yourself). If you remember, the Bullit Black Arrow gets a SV12 S Biturbo twelve-cylinder engine dropped into the engine bay to replace the normal highest-end 6.2-liter V8 engine from the C-Class. That newer, faster, stronger engine gives the Bullit Black Arrow 720 HP (SAE net) and an astonishing 974 lb-ft of torque — and 0-to-186 mph in 24.5 seconds. Oh but wait, we're talking a top speed of 225 MPH. Sounds to us like some automaker wants to make sure that the 556 HP 2009 Cadillac CTS-V doesn't take all the glory from the four-door race for the highest-speed four-door sedan. A few months have gone by since we had a Truck Monday featuring a Chevy truck of this era (by the way, Alameda native Belvedere Adrian is old friends with the owner of the '71 Chevy pickup, and he reports that a 454 lurks under its battered hood). For some reason, Alameda has many more mid-60s Chevy trucks than it has late-60s/early-70s examples, but I found this '69 still earning its keep, just down the block from the '63 Ford Falcon.

Whereas the names of the characters they play may be the same, the storyline's anything but — this time the "Death Race" is set in what we'd been told was an "economic" prison sometime in the not-so-distant dystopian future. But we'll throw down more of that later. The really cool part was getting a first-hand look at some of the metal made into prison inmates very own PCH cars — and there's some really cool stuff to be seen. So without further ado, below the jump are the ten vehicles at the center of the new Paul W.S. Anderson-directed flick coming to a theater near you August 22nd, 2008 — along with all the details on the add-ons that make them "special" plus, because you're so good, a whole mess-load of screenshots. Enjoy and remember, small children are only worth more points because they're harder to hit.

Spyker C8 Aileron Spotted Testing Upgraded Body, "Dutchiness"
We first saw the concept of the Spyker C8 Aileron at Geneva this year, but that version was hard-topped and had a funky green paint job. Autogespot (which has a creepy name in our opinion) has dug up a nice set of spy photos on the Audi-engined, supposedly 400-500 HP (big range huh?) mule version of the supercar undergoing testing somewhere in Europe. The Spyker C8 Aileron, a slightly stretched, aero- and handling-upgraded version of the regular octane C8.More »
