In our house it's "Strawberry Quick" -- from one of those endless spouse-poisoning cases that are never not on tv--everyone but the victim--in this case, the wife--had figured out she only got deathly ill when her husband had access to her food--specifically, milk, which he told her she should drink all the time because she was losing weight (due to poison). She even reported seeing some pink, undissolved stuff in the bottom of the glass. He told her it was Nestle "Strawberry Quick" -- "'Cause I know you like that, honey" -- though apparently the milk didn't taste like Quick and wasn't pink. So now in our house, it's "Honey, can I get you something to drink? Some Strawberry Quick? I know you like that." or "Honey, this glass doesn't look clean." "Oh, that's just the Strawberry Quick."

End digression.

What I think is odd about this ad is, if it happens when no one is looking, what can I as an interested and concerned citizen do about it?

Sure everybody wants to stop male on female domestic abuse. But what about female on male abuse? Can you imagine having to admit to your friends that your wife is the one who broke your nose and not some mountain man on a harley like you originally said?

@RamblinReck89: I'm not sure if that was an attempt at humour, so I'm going to assume you were being serious.

I worked as a counsellor at a university for a few years, and have a fair bit of experience with abusive relationships. At least here in Canada, there is a pretty impressive system in place with regards to spousal abuse, however it is extremely biased towards male-on-female abuse. This is fair enough, the vast majority of abuse is of this nature, however recent research (if I were at home, I'd post it) has shown that female-on-male abuse is much more prevalent than anyone suspected, even in their most generous estimates, because it simply never reported.

I have been witness to some remarkably abusive relationships; part of the problem is a mentality of "never hit a woman", as Krewson says below. I prefer a mentality of "never hit." I know of one guy who was regularly being physically, verbally, and mentally abused, but wouldn't fight back because he was much larger and knew that if he did anything physical, he'd seriously injure her.

Posters like this are a good start, but there needs to be much more of a cultural shift. Abuse is unacceptable, in any form, and the only solution is to walk away. Don't try and work it out, don't try and "fix them", don't be understanding and make excuses. Leave. Everything else will work itself out.
