True, the earliest post-war Beetles weren't much different, but there, obviously, the concept of automation and standardization took hold.

BRistol 408 = 408 different potential suppliers in the BR-408 calling zone for a single missing part of unobtanium. (I.E., You got to call everybody)
VW Limo = VW air cooled Lame-o. Just need to keep a welder on board (the guy -and- the machine) and sufficient braking distances (or, if down a hill, run-off areas)
That reminds me: Need to set up my own specialty alloy part fabrication shop.

But the best bit is [www.bristolcars.co.uk] i.e. performance and appearance upgrades for everything that they've made since 1946. Which is everything that they've made.
Doesn't have a lot to do with PCH, granted, but they are an odd bunch in Filton. That's where they make them. Just outside Bristol, not surprisingly.

Made in 1968, and still with more miles left in it than a lot of things that you could by for $35k (+ shpping if you're in the US). And they have a price for servicing, still offer assorted upgrades; one could get quite carried away with whole idea...
