Let me guess. The bike runs on pure electricity, but the Prius has been converted to run on the feeling of self importance and smugness so now it goes faster than a Ferrari.

The one powered by gasoline is the one Ray drove to his high-school reunion.

That is to say, "who knows". I'd like to think there's a two-stroke motor in that bike with the mufflerless exhaust coming out the passenger side, and the Prius has been converted to pure electric.

Is 'clean electricity' the kind which keeps the smoke in the wires?

I can't do this properly because of the 'net Nazis here but I found an electric motorbike crash. Anyone else feel inclined to put up the surely-entertaining video?

Imagine how emasculated Harley owners are going to feel when electric bikes become the rule, rather than the exception. I can't wait!

@Number_Six: You know, a Harley Davidson is the only motorcycle to this day that has the remarkable ability to convert gasoline directly to noise, without the byproduct known as horsepower.

For those of you about to mention the XR1200 or the V-Rod, neither of those are actually Harleys. Just ask any "real" Harley owner.

The wonderful thing about electric motors is lots of torque. Which would make that Brammo a ton of fun to ride.

@neilgehrke: Yeah, it always bothers me when someone says that it's "powered" by electricity. Electricity is just an energy transfer mechanism within the context of transportation infrastructure, kind of like hydrogen. The bike is powered by whatever the local power plants are using, which may not be coal.

Here in TX, we de-regulated our electricity providers, which both tripled the price of electricity, but also allowed use to "choose" our electricity generation plan. I pay a few % extra for 100% renewable power, which I believe is a boldface lie since the grid doesn't really work like that (what, are my electrons coming from wind power, but my neighbor's electrons are coming from coal?), but hopefully that extra bit is going toward producing more renewable power generation.

@nataku8_e30: We tried de-regulating our electricity providers. We then promptly got screwed over by paying several times more than we did before for no added benefit whatsoever, unless you count sending the state into a state of near-bankruptcy that it has yet to fully recover from as a benefit, along with a couple of execs who robbed their employees of their hard-earned retirement.

How is the de-regulation working for you guys in Texas so far?

@pauljones: Like I said, prices tripled (or so I've been told, the deregulation actually occurred before I moved here). Right now, after shopping around, I'm paying 13.2 cents for a claimed 100% renewable plan with fixed pricing, but I've seen prices in the 17 / 18 cent range in the past. I think my dad is paying about 9 cents in NY.
Overall, I guess the price isn't that bad, but when you compare it to our extremely low gasoline and natural gas prices, it's a bit fishy. We also haven't had any rolling blackouts / brownouts (I'm guessing you're in California?), although I did have a blackout a few weeks ago that seemed kind of fishy. The power company was able to estimate when power would be restored to within a minute, which made it seemed scheduled.
Also, TX's state government has pretty limited spending (just look at our crime and education statistics!), so despite no state income tax, we're nicely in the black.

Are the Tesla coils there as stand-in for a Tesla roadster?
To answer your question: it's the bike, provided the electricity used to charge its battery came from a clean source.
