Italian Style With Hollywood Pedigree: 1966 Ghia 450SS Could Be Yours!
If you're looking for a fast Italian machine from the 60s, you've got your Ferraris and Maseratis and such, and even your Intermeccanicas. Don't stop with those cars, though, because Ghia didn't just do coachwork for other manufacturers- they made a few cars themselves! This '66 450SS, once owned by Wilt Chamberlain, has had its original Chrysler 273 V8 replaced with a Chevy 350; that seems sacrilegious (though it was done by Boyd Coddington), but it's still a fast, beautiful car. The auction ends today, and we're curious to see how high the bids will get. [eBay Motors]

Cadzilla, A DeLorean And ZZ Top: A Boyd Coddington Tribute
For those still continuing to cope with Boyd Coddington's death, here's a video that should put a smile on your face and maybe dry up a few of those tears. One of Coddington's most beloved custom cars was the Cadzilla, which was created for ZZ Top singer Billy Gibbons (sometimes referred to as CadZZilla). Truly a unique ride, the custom cost around $900,000 to build. This might explain why ZZ Top put Cadzilla in so many videos. Our favorite has to be the video "Doubleback" for the Back To The Future Part III soundtrack, which features both a DeLorean and Cadzilla. As always, the day is saved by three leggy young women in a custom hot rod. We love America. -

Who Is Your Automotive Hero?
With the sad news of Boyd Coddington's death and Brock Yates' blog departure, it has us thinking about automotive heroes. For some a hero is a designer like Carroll Shelby (despite some recent events). For others, it's a racer like Fangio, Schumacher or Foyt (despite a temper). What about George Barris? He's the man behind the Monkeemachine and the Batmobile. Can't hate on that. More » -

Boyd Coddington, Remembered
As we sadly reported first earlier today, Boyd Coddington died early this morning at the age of 63.
As a lad reading Hot Rod by flashlight after bedtime — as if it were Highlights for Children — I assimilated Boyd Coddington's name alongside the usual suspects of the Hot Rod feature-well: Gray Baskerville, Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, "Big Daddy" Don Garlits, et al. Coddington's take on traditional, 1930s-style hot rods enthralled an impressionable kid marinating in late-1970s culture. Kiss was meeting the phantom of the park and mirrorballs were circling above every head-shop in the country, casting bricks of light across Cheap Trick posters, decorative coke mirrors and door beads. A master metal craftsman, Coddington was lathing his own stylized parts from whole aluminum billets. More » -

Boyd Coddington RV Mired at Bonneville
Gazing at images of Speed Week at Bonneville one might think the surface an impenetrable layer of white salt. In fact the salt is a relatively thin crust floating on a lake of mud. Boyd Coddington and accompanying American Hot Rod television crew found this out the hard way when their white whale of an RV broke through the salt on the return road. The first two wreckers called in were mired attempting to extract the RV. The legendary Big Blue was summoned to sort out the mess, but it too ended up askew in the landscape. Three tow trucks and a crew minivan driven into a taut steel cable later, a fourth tow truck packing three rear axles finally managed to unearth the RV, and the fallen tow trucks. One of the drivers was overheard lamenting, "From hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee!" [National T-Bucket Alliance](Images: Ron Christensen)
