    I'm kind of disappointed.

The first Grand Sport was a lightweight 1963 model and a super hairy beast meant for a race track.

The second in 1996 was an exercise in engineering and had the idea of the Grand Sport in mind but it was too cushy to really be anything like the original. The only thing was that technology had come so far along that they could make the pig of a C4 body perform as well as a pretty much full on race car from the 60's.

You'd think that in 2009, for a 2010 model year, they could have gotten the idea that a hairy chested, balls-to-the-wall, stripper Corvette would have made an appearance. No, instead, GM decided on yet ANOTHER trim level for the SAME CAR. The hell with the ZR1. It's a big pile of unobtanium. The Grand Sport had all the potential to be close to ZR1 performance for half the price and honestly, fairly affordable too. But nooooo, they just gave a standard 'Vette some big wheels, sticky tires and a fancy name. Big whoop.

You'd think GM was taking lessons from the Ford Mustang at this point!

Way to screw the pooch GM! No wonder you're in bankruptcy.

@Jstas' name was too long: Grand Sport coupe models equipped with the manual transmission are uniquely outfitted for race track competition, too, with a dry-sump oiling system, differential cooler and a rear-mounted battery.

The complete list of content and special features for the Grand Sport includes:

Wider front and rear fenders - including specific front fenders with integrated Grand Sport badges

Z06-style front splitter and tall rear spoiler

Functional brake ducts and extra cooling

Unique 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels; painted finish standard and chrome finish optional

Large 275/35ZR18 tires in front and 325/30ZR19 tires in the rear

Z06-size brakes, including 14-inch (355 mm) front rotors with six-piston calipers and 13.4-inch (340 mm) rear rotors with four-piston calipers

    Specific manual transmission gear ratios

Specific rear axle ratio on automatic-equipped models

If you can get me the C4 GS with ZR1 bits under it, I'd have a party.

I find the subtle C4 GS a little better looking than the much less subtle C6.

But, I would take either happily... OH REN AND STIMPY ON TV!

0-60 under 4.0? That's faster than the base model from what I can tell (at least the '08 base, was something like 4.2 or 4.3). Anyone know what changed? Are there new transmission / rear end ratios?

I grew up disliking Corvettes. Except for the ZR1- I was always impressed by that. And I recall reading about a twin-turbo Vette in Motor Trend when I was a kid.

But the latest generation really sparked my interest. I have been impressed by all of the Corvettes of late.

Wrenching on it would probably still be difficult though.

@pauljones: Thats what I hear, driving one changes the whole outlook on them. It's not that I'm hating on em, it's just probably that I've seen way too many and far too few that had anything cool done to them. In fact, the only cool vette I have in memory was this black one called nightmare that was a C3. The guy fuel injected himself and built the block. He said it was a year of building and four of tuning and it roared like a god, but save for C3's, until I get to drive one I guess I'll have to keep feeling nothing for them.

@pj134: I can understand where you are coming from. I still want one, but that is just for the performance value.

I am going to guess you live in a semi-well-off area with a heavy population? I see so many of them every day around the SF Bay Area that stock ones barely make me flinch unless they are some stand out color. Even then, nothing too special.

Classics will always get me drooling though. Like the real original Grand Sport that comes to the local auto shows...
