Wait, people will pay more for the same thing with less cargo capacity, worse visibility, equal fuel economy and performance, and uglier styling?

    God damn it.

For what it's worth, the X-series of trucks were pretty ludicrous to begin with, M-tuned versions just mean they're now capable of suitably ludicrous speed. If the seats ever go to plaid, they'll circle right back around to pretty damn cool.

    Hmmm.. Fully loaded 2010 Mustang GT $36000 + 2010 Shelby GT500 starting price (No markup.. lol I know that doesn't exist) $54000 = $90000 total OR BMW X6M = $89,725

I'll see you later, I'm going to the Ford dealership.

That sad part is people will buy X6M's and Tuners will modify them when they could've actually went out and bought two cars that are much better looking and a hell of a lot more enjoyable to drive.

So who's going to pit one of these instead of the M5 against a Q7 V12 TDI?

@Leeeeena the Jalopchick: So....the Q7 TDI has 700+ lbs-ft of torque and AWD and it still loses a straight-line race to a 4000-pound sedan that is nearly five years old and is often noted for its relative lack of torque? I guess the guy does "justify" this be commenting that the Q7 weighs 800 kilos more and has crappy aerodynamics, but that's sorta like saying "If this car wasn't a pointless CUV for douchebags, it might be a pretty decent car." The same of course applies to the X6-M.

It just hurts to see Pontiac, Saturn, and Saab going away along with their respective cool vehicles, yet shit like this continues to flourish. Yeah, it's fast, but an M vehicle weighing in at over 5000 lbs??? This is worse than if they made an M7.

@WheatKing: Nah, an M7 would have 4 doors and an aero kit that would just look silly on a 7 series. The 850csi was way cooler than anything with 4 doors...

@X5SoB, Car-2-X Communication: A friend of mine at work has an X5, which I have ridden in.

It is great for an SUV. It is not great for a BMW.

To me, the X-series exemplifies where BMW has gone wrong. Instead of lightweight performance cars, we have heavy sedans and SUVs. The Explorer weighs 4500 lb. Granted, it is slightly smaller than the X5. However, it is nowhere near 500 lb. smaller.

I don't have a problem with BMW making SUVs, per se. In fact, if they can make a killing on these so they can fund the M-series cars I welcome it. I have a problem with BMW moving away from what made them a "driver's car" and towards mainstream behemoths.

@X5SoB, Car-2-X Communication: Troll alarm? Either way, in my misspent youth as an automotive journalist, we had an X6 press car and it remained in the office garage for most of its stay. I mean, give automotive journos something free and they don't take it? That's gotta be close to rock bottom.

Honestly, I find the MX-6 more interesting than the Probe, and the FD-inspired styling is definitely a nice touch.

@Thrashy is like FTF, but for CRXes:

The Mazda MX-6 GT featured a Turbocharged engine. The MX-6 is the antithesis to the Probe, despite the sharing of many components.

The MX-6 GT is a commonly overlooked sleeper-- surely noone would suspect a car as vanilla-looking as an Accord would be packing a 2.2L 145-HP inline four under its bonnet.

The next generation MX-6 suffered from none of the previous generation's blandness. It was a hot car. Although, one could argue, its styling suggested it really ought to have rear-wheel drive.

@nataku83: The MX-6 is a fascinating car, with a range of interesting motors, notably the Duratec 2.5L V6, some of which were able to source the Japanese spec 200-hp version.

It's awful, and the price tag is even worse.

I figured out why this car was made, though. The regular X5 was too practical, so they had to make something as impractical as a Cayenne Turbo S, and voila, you have the X6 M.
