    @gallahad: Exactly, this thing tilts up to 30 degrees and can reach 38 knots (43mph). #bmw

    @Franzouse: How does that affect its buoyancy? Is each of the pontoons buoyant enough to hold up the whole craft, or is extra lift being generated from somewhere else?

    @gallahad: I think but can't guarantee that one pontoon would be enough to hold all the weight, but always figured that the kinetic energy of the wind was doing most of the work.
    I used to race 25 ft. catamarans and when you're rappeling on one pontoon at full speed, one wrong move (like tightening the rope) will capsize the boat and send you flying into the sail. #bmw

    has anyone seen any pictures of the wing - that shot is just a traditional sail isnt it?
    here is the last winged sail used in americas cup 1988 by stars and stripes:

    Aviation is nothing new to BMW, I guess it was only a matter of time before they got back into aeronautics through another avenue - in this case, by designing a massive wing.
