I'm glad they raised the nose up to better meet the new European pedestrian impact standards. The pit crew's breathing a sigh of relief, too.

I hope the kept the KERS grounding defect as an antitheft device, though. With that on you could park in the worst parts of town, and leave the keys in the ignition with no worries

how did FIA decide tiny rear wing but anything goes fugly front wing?? Tiny rear and front wings would make passing far more than a pipe dream for the driver. I love F1, but it is getting harder to defend...

@monsterajr: I believe it was to decrease the wake to increase safety of getting close to ostensibly increase passing opportunities.

I.E., Make Bernie's Lap Parade more exciting (if at the expense of "eye-pleasing")

Do they allow movable surfaces now? Or did I miss something?

If the "no movable surface" rule is gone, this is HUGE. Like the biggest thing in F1 for years; forget going back to slicks.

@the new guy: The are allowed to change the wing configuration once a lap...and a return to original configuration.

This should allow a low downforce/straight line speed -and- high downforce/twisty configuration, good for Indy or Circuit Gille Villeneuve...oh, wait a minute...

Regardless, worthless on a completely curvey Tilke track.

@SeanKHotay: Not really. Tilke tracks usually have some ridiculously long straights, and usually more than one. This feature only helps overtaking if there's more than one long straight on the track as or else it's pretty obvious which once you'd trim back downforce on.

How do you thing the grass trimmed at cash/Bernie-strapped venues*? Bahrain need not apply...neither Grand Prix du Canada ou France (albeit for opposite reasons).

* Tho it's better than being Max-strapped...at least for the vast majority...

@racerx: Yeah, these new proportions take some getting used to (it's that front wing really).

Have to say that this BMW is probably the least attractive of the new cars though, the Renault having a wacky retro 70's design and paint job and the new Ferrari having a very sexy hind-quarters with projecting polished exhausts.

Really, does anyone watch F1 for real?

I mean anyone who has a life, a nice car, a girlfriend, a job, a gym membership, a pet fish to feed, friends and family to hang out with.

God only knows what F1 viewers look like. Probably just as scary as NASCAR fans.

@jduffy13: I think most of us here would watch it if it's on, but I don't really seek it out for it's own sake. I would sooner watch F1 than NASCAR, for sure.

I respect the effort, but it's difficult to care much for the people involved.

@jduffy13: Yeah. Religiously. With my wife, who's an Alonso fan. It's easy, seeing as how it's on Sundays and thus never interferes with our jobs. It also gives us something to talk about with my father-in-law, also an F1 fan, when we go to those family dinners, to which we drive in one of our two nice cars.

You've got me on the gym membership, though.

@jduffy13: Um, like they said - yes.

I have a wife, cat, friends and all the rest. I DVR F1 these days (used to get up religiously, but the commercials always put me back to sleep), but it's still damn fun racing. The speed, braking and skill of the drivers (they even drive in rain!) is enough for me. Passing is a bonus.
