There's serious savings to be had on new cars, as well as some seriously horrible duds. Here's five of the best and five to avoid.

Good Deal #1

What: Buy A 2010 Suzuki SX4 For Under $15,000
Where: Suzuki Dealers
Regular Price: $15,849
Black Friday Price: $14,599
Savings: $500 Holiday cash on top of current deals, for a total savings of $1,300.
Why Its A Good Deal: You won't find a better utilitarian vehicle in this price range. Better yet, it comes with an in-dash navigation system featuring Garmin software.

Good Deal #2

What: GM Dealer Closing Sale: $2,000 Off For Certain Customers
Where: Cadillac, Buick-GMC, Chevrolet Dealers
Regular Price: Already heavily discounted
Savings: $1,000-to-$2,000
Black Friday Price: Between $1,000 and $2,000 cheaper
Why It's A Good Deal: Nearly one-million customers living near a closing dealership will receive a letter in the mail this week offering them an additional $1,000-to-$2,000 to purchase a vehicle at a dealership staying open. Deal ends at the end of the month.

Good Deal #3

What: BMW Diesel Luxury Sedans — More Than 10% Off
Where: BMW Dealers
Regular Price: $43,900
Savings: $4,500
Black Friday Price: $39,400
Why It's A Good Deal: BMW is trying to get U.S. buyers to accept diesel vehicles as luxury vehicles and is putting $4,500 in cash where its mouth is. Powerful and efficient, BMW diesels at a discount is a great deal.

Good Deal #4

What: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V: $5,000 Savings
Where: Cadillac Dealers
Regular Price: $58,575
Black Friday Price: $53,575
Savings: $5,000
Why It's A Good Deal: The CTS-V is a world-beater and the few remaining 2009 vehicles on dealer lots qualify for a $5,000 cash back deal. It's the fastest stocking-stuffer on the block.

Good Deal #5

What: Remaining 2009 Dodge Rams Up To $5,500 Cash Back
Where: Dodge Dealerships
Regular Price: $21,510 - $39,935
Black Friday Price: Up To $5,500 Off
Savings: $5,500
Why It's A Good Deal: Dodge is hoping they'll have a few less 2009 Rams sitting under their tree and are offering up to $5,500 in cash back if you'll help rid them of a nicely-loaded one.

Bad Deal #1

What: Ford's Year-End Sales Event Unremarkable
Where: Ford Dealers
Regular Price: Fairly Cheap
Black Friday Price: $1,000 less plus 0% financing
Why It's A Bad Deal: Ford is not as poorly positioned as other American automakers so they're offering a measly $1,000 cash back and 0% financing. This is a good deal — on Black Friday 2006.

Bad Deal #2

What: Baja MotorSports Phoenix 250cc Street Motorcycle A Bad Deal Free
Where: PepBoys
Regular Price: $1,999.99
Black Friday Price: $1,499.00
Savings: $500.01
Why It's A Bad Deal: Even with a $500 discount you're still buying a cheap-for-a-reason Chinese bike that's going to require riding lessons, a license and possibly being abandoned two weeks later on the side of the road.

Bad Deal #3

What: Get Less Than 3% Off Of A BMW M3
Where: BMW Dealerships
Regular Price: $54,850
Black Friday Price: $53,350
Why It's A Bad Deal: BMW knows it has a great product in the M3 sports sedan and it's throwing its smallest cash back offer on them. For less than 3% off most buyers won't notice it.

Bad Deal #4

What: Get A "Free" Upgrade To An AWD Charger You Didn't Want
Where: Dodge Dealerships
Regular Price: $30,540
Black Friday Price: $25,700
Why It's A Bad Deal: Dodge has a slate of attractive incentives for those wanting to buy a new car from them, but the "free" upgrade to an AWD Charger is selling you an unpopular AWD upgrade instead of more cash off the car you actually wanted.

Bad Deal #5

What: Subaru Donates $250 To Charity For You
Where: Subaru Dealers
Regular Price: Regular Price
Black Friday Price: Still The Regular Price On Many Models
Why It's A Bad Deal: We think Subaru's "Share The Love " event is great for the five charities that get $250 when you buy their car, but it's not a great deal for consumers. Blame it on Subaru building cars people want.

<![CDATA[1988 E30 M3 for a Fender-Blistering $39,000!]]> BMW claims to build Ultimate Driving Machines. And while a number of their mid-eighties efforts belied that assertion, Nice Price or Crack Pipe has an E30 that ultimately you're going to want to drive.

The love flowed rich and fast yesterday for the Datsun 510- just not for a 510 that happened to have been shoved through the ricer on its way to the West Coast JDM-gasm show. That bad boy racked up a 75% Crack Pipe vote despite its clean enough to eat off of it VG30 installation.

As we noted yesterday, the 510 had been considered the poor-man's BMW due to its similar boxy shape and sporting pretensions. At the time, BMW gave little notice to the aspirations of the Japanese wannabes, because they were too busy taking the racing technologies that their M-Technik group had been developing into their road cars. The first fruit of this labor was the homologation of the M1 supercar, and the next was the the E30-based M3, an example of which is our debate club subject for today.

Now, BMW drivers have a reputation as being a bit egotistical, and wearing their cars as extensions of their manhood for all to see. Whether that's true or not, the cars themselves are almost always a cut above the ordinary. The M-series cars have also always been a cut above that.

This 1988 M3, in steel gray with a charcoal interior, has stepped out of a time machine. While many of the first generation M3s have been beaten to death, this car, with only 37,000 on the clock, appears factory fresh. The second-owner seller claims the car has been consistently garaged, and, while not restored, has been refreshed as needed. That condition is reflected in the asking price, which is sitting in the nose-bleed seats at $39,000. Actually, he'll sell it without the Evo pieces for $5,000 less.

Now, KBB doesn't go back to '88, but for an 1989 M3 in excellent condition, they quote a private party price of $12,650! This M3 had better do more than just carve canyons, it should also bring you your beer and slippers when you're done, and feign ignorance of your whereabouts when the cops arrive shortly after.

But that's not to say this is an outrageous price- after all how many low-milage E30 M3s do you come across? So, do you think $39,000 is a fair price for so ultimate an example of this driving machine? Or, does that ultimately drive you to look somewhere else?

You decide!

<![CDATA[BMW Owner Wants Car Repo'd So He Can Buy An M3]]> Demonstrating the kind of financial savvy that keeps "gold investment" firms in business, a poster at Bimmer Forums wants his 5-series repossessed so he can buy the M3 he wants. It's brilliant/awful and doesn't even appear to be a troll!

The first post from biigzbeemer:

Whats up fellas im in the process of getting one soon... I had a 2005 imola red m3 but it was hooked up from the previous owner, it had 19' velano rims coated in red it was krazy but it had one bad tire.. it kept getting flat.. the dealership put air in it in before the they moved it out of the showroom then I took it for a test drive.. it was too good but there was something wrong with the left front tire.. and it turns out after i bought it the front tire had lost thread in the inner part.. so that tire was bad so i took it back to them and they said that they would only replace that wheel but not the other wheels they wouldnt.. so then my brother was with me at the time when we got it being that we werent the only ones interested in it... there was two other doods wanting the same vehicle on the same day.. lucky i had called earlier in the day to schedule it so it worked out good... aurite so we were at the dealer and he said that he would only change the front tire then we said aurite but then my brother asked if it had powertrain warranty and the guy said no.. so i was goin nuts i was like well what if the trans goes and i have to spend 4k on that.. naa so i jumped in a 525i and been in it ever since like a year and a half.. now since im about 15k rolled over from the m3 i owe the bank a ishload of money.. it was a rookie mistake but alot of stuff happend during my life that lead me to make my choice about getting an m3 again and paying 400 dollars less a month due to my rollover and taking a repo.. I prefer to make that choice even tho my 5 series is lookin aight but i love an m3 so its all good.. I would let the bank take my car if i can build up my credit again.. but yea thats my story, apologies if it was a long story

Then user GeorgeM3SMG replied:

1. Welcome.
2. Stop making posts from your mobile phone.
3. If it wasn't your mobile phone, learn to use the keys marked "Shift" and "Enter".
4. Read this: http://www.bartleby.com/141/ Take it to heart.
5. Get Firefox and correct the stuff that gets red underlined when you type or, alternatively, learn to spell (which would couple nicely with #4).

You'd have thought by now that Biigzbeemer would have comprehended the hint. Or maybe not.

Yeah i know i typed kind of confusing last night but i was up in the sky if you know wut i mean. I cant even get this car since i would have to Repo this and suffer any consequences such as a lawsuit from bmw financial as i am currently under them at the moment. My brother said that if i dont make the payments they will repo it and pick it up but he says they wont come after the difference because it was their choice to lend me the money in full in the first place but i did sign the friggin binding contract and those rules they have.. problem is they will want the difference. My question to you is do you think it is worth it to repo the car but have another loan on ur credit before you choose to repo it and build up ur credit after they take your car away?

What's scarier? That they gave this guy a loan or they gave this guy a license?

<![CDATA[Is Usain Bolt Faster Than A Corvette Grand Sport?]]>

This evening in Berlin, the Jamaican sprinter broke his own world record of 19.30 at the 200 meter sprint with a time of 19.19 seconds.

The M3-flipping Bolt is now the man who holds the world title, the Olympic title and the world record in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters: he set the former on August 16 with a time of 9.58, besting his previous record of 9.69 from last summer at the Beijing Olympics.

With first places worth $60,000 and world records worth $100,000, the lanky Jamaican bagged a cool $320,000 at the Berlin world championships-more than enough to replace his crashed BMW M3 for his 23rd birthday, which is tomorrow.

(Yes, the clock reads 19.20 on the photo above, but his official time is 19.19 seconds.)

<![CDATA[What’s This Engine Bay?]]> It's time again to test your automotive intellectual fortitude by figuring out what car this engine bay's from before you click through. Sure, you'll say you got it right in the comments, but only you'll know the truth.

M Power usually comes in a greater number of cylinders: six in an E46 M3, eight in the current M3, ten in an M5 and twelve in the McLaren F1. But this little four-pot—and you guessed S14B23 if you guessed right—is what powered the original E30 M3, that Lego block of automotive perfection able to give grown men the wobblies in the knees and the sighs on eBay.

The S14B23 has got quite a pedigree. The engine block is the M10, which has scaled in horsepower from 75 in the 1962 BMW 1500 sedan all the way to around 1500 in Gordon Murray’s sublime Brabham BT52, which gave Nelson Piquet the Formula One world title in 1983. The cylinder head is straight off the M88 engine from the M1 supercar, minus two cylinders.

In the E30 M3, the engine is 2.3 liters (93.4 mm bore × 84 mm stroke), naturally aspirated like every proper M and develops in the close neighborhood of 200 HP. Not bad at all for an unblown street engine in 1986.

But transcending all the numbers is the sheer ferocity of noise as the S14B23 approaches its readline of 7200 RPM. If you care—and are surrounded by noises less pleasant—you might as well hit play and listen to the sixteen valves of the very engine pictured here do their magic around a racetrack.

<![CDATA[G-POWER BMW M3: 500 HP, 200 MPH, Orange!]]> BMW Tuner G-POWER already lay claim to the fastest BMW Coupe and fastest street-legal BMW. Now they've turned their attention to the BMW M3 coupe.

The new ASA supercharger is capable of squeezing 500 HP out of the M3's V8, which provides "acceleration that feels like being dragged by a bungee cord." Despite the violent implications, the M3 is rather tame on the outside. It's not until you open the hood and spy the bright orange internals that you realize something is afoot. Pricing details are scarce in the poorly translated press release, but we're guessing it'll take some significant coin to get one in your driveway.

Supercharger system provides the BMW M3 with 500 hp and a top speed of more than 320 km/h

For the current BMW M3, G-POWER offers an exquisite supercharger system that sets new standards in regards of design, quality and performance. Using gentle soft charging with just 0,3 bar (relative) boost, the output of the V8 engine is pushed from 420 hp to 500 hp and the torque increases from 400 Nm up to 480 Nm.

After 9 months of intensive development, starting with the CAD design, followed by prototyping and completed with test drives and hot climate tests in the United Arab Emirates, the result is awesome.

500 hp and 480 Nm of torque, achieved through gentle soft charging with just 0,3 bar (relative) boost, let the BMW M3 appear completely changed. Already from 3.000 rpm on the supercharged G-POWER M3 TORNADO pulls like the standard BMW M3 revving twice as much, but than the G-POWER M3 TORNADO really starts to flex its muscles: from 5.000 rpm on until redline the G-POWER M3 TORNADO provides constantly about 20 % more torque than the factory car, this provides an acceleration that feels like being dragged by a bungee cord.

This output explosion is based on the heart of the G-POWER supercharger system, the all new T1-518 ASA centrifugal supercharger. By the way the ASA superchargers are being used in the ALPINA models B5S, B6S and B7 as well, just like the ALPINA B6 GT3 race car, in witch the chargers could state there impressive quality and reliability during 3.500 km in the "Green Hell" of the Nürburgring at the 24th hour race on may 23rd and 24th!

The exclusive use of components meeting OEM standards is one of the basic elements of the G-POWER philosophy and one of the secrets for the extraordinary quality, reliability and performance of the G-POWER products.

For its mission in the G-POWER M3 TORNADO the ASA T1-518 has been literally been tailor-made, to provide the giant need for fresh air of the up to 8.300 rpm revving 4.0 litre V8 engine. But the ASA supercharger, flanged to the engine using a CNC-milled high-strength mount, is not the only high-tech component of the G-POWER M3 supercharger system. The engineers did not spare any cost or efforts during the development of this supercharger system. Amongst others they even did a sophisticated, computer aided simulation which analyses the conditions of the air-ducting engine parts. The defined goal of this extensive research is to improve the efficiency of the G-POWER supercharger system to the best possible performance. And the result proofs us right. The G-POWER supercharger system is capable of reducing the specific fuel consumption of the engine. This shows that we do not only care about performance but are concerned of the sensitive use of restricted resources like fuel, as well.

A further key figure, next to the supercharger, in the G-POWER supercharger system is the complete aluminium cast, large volume air box, including 8 lightweight integral resonance induction pipes, that is responsible for the perfect throttle response and optimal torque curve. The G-POWER M3 supercharger system is completed by the large air-to-air intercooler that is located in the vehicles front, which cools the boost temperature down to an output optimal level under all circumstances.

Of course the performance figures benefit from this huge output improvement. The figure from stand still to 200 km/h improves from 15,8 seconds (stock, 6-speed manual) to 13,5 seconds (SKI).

On demand we can enable an unlimited top speed according to the capacity of the tyres. In combination with the 20 inch G-POWER SILVERSTONE DIAMOND wheels and the MICHELIN Pilot Sport tyres in the dimension 255/30 ZR 20 and 295/25 ZR 20, a top speed of more than 320 km/h can be achieved. Especially designed for the BMW models, the G-POWER SILVERSTONE Alloy Wheel forms a contrast to the great mass of other aftermarket wheels, due to the successful combination of double spokes and the "concave design" typical of G-POWER. The G-POWER "diamond cut" provides for the fascinating dynamic appearance of the G-POWER SILVESTONE rim, in contrast to the silver-graphite coated rim body and the bolt applications of stainless steel. An additional feature of the G-POWER SILVERSTONE rim is its weight-optimised design that allows a low rim weight with the same stability, compared to other standard wheels. A perceptibly improved impression of convenience and a considerably increased agility accompany the minimisation of the unsprung mass: advantages of the G-POWER SILVERSTONE rim, which you can factually experience above all in connection with low-profile tyres. Further improvement of the road handling is realized through the continuously height-adjustable G-POWER coil-over suspension G3M-RS with nine selectable settings each for bound and rebound.

Next to the output and the suspension of the BMW M3, G-POWER has taken care of the sound, as well. The G-POWER 4-trim sport rear muffler with its 4 x 83 mm tailpipes gives the BMW V8 a deep, throaty sound that turns heads but is at now time annoying. The G-POWER M3 rear muffler is available made from stainless steel or completely out of Titanium which is 14,5 kg lighter than the factory part.

The interior is upgraded by G-POWER with precious carbon panels, a speedometer with G-POWER logo scaled to 360 km/h, a sporty aluminium pedal set and on demand a tailor-made leather interior. The exclusivity of each G-POWER M3 TORNAD is documented with a special badge in the interior and on the supercharger system that features the G-POWER serial number.

<![CDATA[MWDesign Darth Maul BMW M3: The Dark Side Of Tuning]]> Canada's MWDesign hopes to force 2009 BMW M3 coupe owners to open their wallets for this murdered-out Bimmer. It's named "Darth Maul."

The stock M3 isn't exactly lacking for power, which might explain why all of the upgrades with the exception of some H&R Sports Springs to assure the do-not-drive-over-speed-bumps look, are of the aesthetic variety. On the outside, the coupe gets Amuse bumpers and drunks with carbon fiber touches on the mirrors, diffusers, and vents painted in a Jerez Black with orange highlights. The wheels have been replaced with custom matte black Modulare M6s with more black-on-orange treatment. The interior, in true Darth Maul fashion, is bright red.

<![CDATA[Usain Bolt Flips His BMW M3]]> Jamaican Olympic champion Usain Bolt, the fastest man alive, was going fast enough to flip his new BMW M3 multiple times before landing in a ditch. Maybe he should stick to running.

According to his manager the sprinter is fine, though video from Sky News shows a bandage around his foot. Given the condition of the car he appears to have been lucky. Reports also mention a female passenger, so we're a little curious about what might have been going on inside the car to cause the quick Bolt to lose his attention.

A Jamaican man who witnessed the crash give Bolt a "10" for his landing of the BMW. An Australian woman who also saw the accident only gave it a "4" due to a previously unheard of technical efficiency. Hat Tip to Damian!

<![CDATA[BMW M3 Goes Off-Track, Gets Destroyed Going Back On]]> The setting here is an M3 gone off track and miraculously no worse for the wear... until the driver hits the gas and drags the undercarriage across the asphalt. The crunchy sound made us queasy.

Consider this another JaloPSA: The BMW M3 is a carefully honed missile of Bruce, in the proper hands it will do magical things on the track. It will not do those magical things in the dirt. It will also not respond well to high centering on the edge of a track. Do not handle your BMW M3 in this manner or you will report directly to your local BMW dealer, who will have much heavier pockets when you leave. If you're a real masochist, click through for the before and after videos. (Thanks for the tip Paul) [Youtube]

<![CDATA[BMW Don't Know Squat, Think M3 Has Twin-Turbo V8]]> We think BMW is a little confused here, unless they're trying to tell us something like they did with the X5 M and X6 M minisite tags. If that's the case, then bring it on.

You can clearly see under the M3 Convertible on the BMW USA website that it says the following:

The M3 effortlessly harnesses 414 horses and 8-cylinders of twin-turbocharged brawn.

Twin-turbocharged brawn? How sexy.

<![CDATA[Wiesmann Roadster MF4 Teased Ahead Of Geneva]]> Everyone's favorite family of retro-styled, BMW-powered roadsters is getting another member with the Wiesmann MF4 set to debut at next month's Geneva Motor Show.

From what we can tell from this sketch, the MF4 will look nearly identical to other Wiesmann Roadsters. So, we can only guess that the new stuff is happening under the hood. World Car Fans is speculating that motive power could come either from BMW's 367 HP 4.8-liter V8 or even the 420 HP 4.0-liter from the 2008 BMW M3. [via World Car Fans]

<![CDATA[Top Gear Pits BMW M3 Vs. Lexus IS-F, We Translate Stig's Morse Code]]> If you had a chance to see last night's episode of Top Gear you'd have seen the four-door BMW M3 take to the track against the Lexus IS-F. You'd also see Stig take the IS-F for a power lap, again while listening to the sounds of Morse code. The inability to understand what Stiggie was saying / hearing due to all those dots and dashes was buggin' us, so we enlisted the help of one of America's preeminent practitioners of the code of dits and dahs — who also happens to be an avid Jalopnik reader (although he likes bikes more than cars for some reason. Jeesh, hasn't he heard the old maxim about "two wheels bad, four wheels good?" Whatever, we won't hold it against him). He's helpfully translated the two short bursts of circles and lines. Hit the jump for the full video as well as the translation.

First in-car Morse Code: "Too many gears"
That's obvious given the commentary from Jeremy Clarkson.

Second in-car Morse Code: "I like Mr Sulu"
Who knew?

<![CDATA[The Stig Breaks In Top Gear Australia's Test Track]]> In case you missed it, the first episode of Top Gear Australia aired this week, and while we're still not sure how much we like the down under counterpart to the British original, it's still good entertainment. One thing we weren't sure of until we watched was what exactly the test track would look like. This clip shows Aussie Stig pounding out the first power-lap on the estimated 1.28-mile circuit in the new 2009 Porsche 911

Also, thanks to the fanboys at FinalGear, this map shows roughly what the Australian track looks like from a bird's eye satellite view. It seems to us like a pretty tight course, with some sections looking quite narrow, so it'll be interesting to see how real-world supercars like the RHD Ford GT fare.

<![CDATA[Dinan To Squeeze 638 HP V10 Into BMW M3, Laugh Manically]]> Like mad scientists splicing bits and pieces of animal carcasses together to create something unholy, Dinan is prepping a BMW M3 equipped with a 638 HP version of the BMW V10. The heart of this ludicrous M3 will be a 5.7 liter bored-and-stroked version of the 5.0-liter DOHC 40-valve V10 found in the BMW M5 and BMW M6. This engine swap is not unprecedented, as Hamann, Hartge and AC Schnitzer have done it before, but this will be the first time major engine modification will be involved. Look for this manic M3 to break sound barriers in the near future. [Modified L&E]

<![CDATA[BMW M3 Plowed Into House By Idiot Teen Driver]]> Potential idiot parents take note — the 2008 BMW M3 is a finely crafted, high-performance, German-engineered rocket sled. It is not a present to buy for your LA-area 19-year-old. When parents like you buy cars like M3s for your kids, things like this happen — they pile a couple of guys in the car, then take it out for high-speed foolishness. At the peak of teenage testosterone, they will hit the "M button," rocket up a hill, lose control, jump a curb and bash into a house.

You do not have to one-up your idiot neighbors. In fact, do not buy your son a car at all. If you do, buy him a clapped-out 80's-era Volvo. We know you think your son deserves all the best, but he also doesn't deserve to turn into that idiot teen who gets ridiculed on the internet for crashing expensive BMW's into peoples houses — or for ramping off the end of a runway berm, killing everyone in the car. <![CDATA[Seattle Body Shop Has Best Loaner Car Ever]]>

Haury's Lake City Collision in Seattle, Washington is run by geniuses. What better way to attract customers to your business than by offering the greatest loaner car ever - a 2008 BMW M3. The ultimate M3 (well, at least until the BMW M3 CSL comes out) is available for rent while customers await the completion of their repairs, though we'd bet with a replacement like this, their customers don't care how long it takes. The most brilliant part of this thing — a new BMW M3, owned by the company, that can be written off as a depreciating asset. Freakin. Brilliant. [HaurysCollision via Cardomain]

<![CDATA[Note To BMW: New M3 ALMS Racer Looks Hot On Track Without Flame-Surfacing]]> We first saw the new BMW M3 racer earlier this year at its Chicago Auto Show reveal. Now, after a year of development, the finished product has taken to the track for a test run as it's readied to do battle in the ALMS GT2 class against the likes of the Porsche 911 and Ferrari F430.

Although we know function is more important than form on a racing car, but if the latter is any indication of the former, BMW will have a real winner with the new M3. Of course, a 485 HP 4.0-liter V8 powering a 2535 lb car will more than likely help as well. We mean, can someone please tell BMW to forget that whole "flame-surfacing" thing and just put widebody kits on all their street cars? [BMW]
