    I expect future BMW's to be impervious to floods, feature windmill power supplies, and a crazy-ass hood design that flips up at angle like a spatula.

    Wait a minute: I understood that Bangle was given a meaningless promotion some time ago that removed him from having too much influence on the actual design of the cars and Hooydonk has been more responsible for the look of BMWs of the last few years.


    This article heavily suggests though doesn't say that Hooydonk was responsible for the Z4: [www.automobilemag.com]

    @Bumblebee: Well, no I'm wrong: It doesn't suggest that. It seems that he was the guy from BMW available that day to talk about the car.


    Still, does anyone else remember something similar to what I'm talking about? I don't have the time to research it now, but the I'm concerned that BMW design is not in much better hands than it was.

    @Bumblebee: Design directors in general do very little drawing. Like any manager, they merely guide the process. It's very possible that Bangle came up with the flame surfacing- it's very possible that he didn't, and was merely endorsing one of his designers' styles. And even if he was responsible for the general theme, he didn't design every car (as proven by the gallery above). Nobody even does a single car on their own. People work on details, different versions, production feasibility, etc.

    Many times, the production or even concept version won't look anything like the initial sketch.

    @Bumblebee: What you're talking about definitely rings a bell. But assuming Bangle must have had SOME influence regardless of his actual hands-on involvement, removing him from the picture and giving AVH more freedom oughta have some effect. Or not. On the bright side, current Mercedes designs are alternately bland and hella weird, removing at least some of the pressure on BMW.
