As a psych major in college, they endlessly drilled into us the huge pile of research that indicates that positive messages are vastly more effective at eliciting change than scare tactics like this billboard.

I agree that common sense tells us that it should be true, but the research doesn't follow that pattern. One of the biggest long-term studies they did was with smoking. They took two ads, one of them being the ad showing the old, wrinkly, chain-smoking crackwhore who looked absolutely disturbing with a slogan saying that this was the beauty of smoking. The other ad was one in which they portrayed a healthy young couple running a marathon together with tag line that said something like "Being smoke-free makes all the difference".
The latter ad wound up being far more successful.

Trust me, you don't want to get with a chick that is a psych major.
To begin with, most psych majors these days are women. There is the common joke that most people that go into psychology do so to try and figure out what is wrong with them, and while that is a gross over exaggeration, there is still a grain of truth to it. Plus, if you're already overly emotional or semi-paranoid, learning about psychological conditions will only make it worse.
See where I'm going with this?
You frequently find these totally hot girls that have minor insecurities that often blossom into being nearly a psychosis just because they start (improperly) pscyhologizing themselves.
Oh, and it gets better.
Whenever you go on a date with a girl like that, they instantly try to psychologize you, and they think they are being sly about it. If you hold your drink a certain way, they will go nuts trying to analyze that, and will then start asking you about your mother.
One girl went so far as to try and judge my personality by asking me what my type was (referring to girls). I looked at her and told her that my type was the kind of girl who could relax and leave the psychology in the office. It was a short date.
Yes, this is based on personal experience, and while not all of them are like this, there are a fair few that are.
Be careful with the psych majors.

The research doesn't indicate that scare tactic ads aren't effective, it just shows that the positive message ads are more effective than scare tactic ads.

You didn't think I came across those girls by being an anthropology major, do you?
I am a psychology major, and I can assure that I am not nucking futs; I am fucking nuts, thank you.

I'd like to see the tagline be something more like "Are we there yet?" or "Hug your kids at home; belt them in the car"
