    Saab Officially Launches Eco-Clothing Line

Remember that super wacky Saab "Reflective Eco-Clothing" fashion show from the New York Auto Show? Apparently the reception was good because Saab is actually launching a line of organic and fair trade clothing. And we mean really launching, as in "not just a PR stunt at a swanky party" launching. Luckily, the clothing seems fairly normal and not reflective and funky like the duds from the New York Auto Show event. More »

Detroit Auto Show: Saab 9-4X BioPower Concept

As part of its Ethanol extravaganza, GM showed off its Saab 9-4x BioPower concept, a preview of a small Saab SUV. Set up with a 2.0-liter four producing 300 hp on E85 Ethanol, and driven by the same four-wheel gear as the Turbo X, the 9-4x is a thoroughly non-Saaburu, sharing a platform with European Cadillacs. Piloting the concept to stage left was a blond-on-blond family of winter sports enthusiasts. It's like they're Swedish, get it?

Go Dutch! Saab 9-4X BioPower Concept Leaked Ahead of Detroit Intro

The land that brought you Rembrandt, pannekoeken and the tulip has another surprise hidden in its clogs. It's the Saab 9-4X BioPower concept, apparently leaked prematurely by Dutch auto site AutoTelegraaf. The pics are small, but the news is fairly large; the concept hearkens an imminent arrival of Saab's first small SUV. It's been a long time coming, with rumor mill entries going back to 2005, when a 9-6X mini-ute was to have sprung from the erstwhile Subaru tieup. GM's Swedish 4x4 will reportedly get power from the typical Saabian 2.0-liter turbo four producing 245 horsepower, though 300 is expected under E85 Ethanol juicing. It'll also expected to get Saab's latest XWD four-by setup that directs drive power to the front and rear axles and between the rear wheels via an "intelligent" rear-diff.[via World Car Fans] Update: We've got the high resolution shots posted HERE More »

Saab Bio-Power Hybrid Unveiled in Stockholm

At the Stockholm motor show today, Saab took the wraps off its BioPower Hybrid concept, a 9-3 convertible powered by a turbocharged, flexfuel-capable gas-electric hyrbrid-drive drivetrain/UNIVAC computer/Flux Capacitor/Maytag dryer. The BioPower powertrain uses electric motors to provide a kind of hyperspace torque-boost of up to a devilish 666Nm (491 lbs.-ft.); that's when the electric motors fire up to drive the rear wheels, making the cabrio de-facto all-wheel drive. (More after the jump.) More »

Saab's BioPower Concept to Debut in Los Angeles

American corn growers, and the lobbyists who butter their interests, will be pleased Saab will showcase its US-focused ethanol-powered concept engine at the Los Angeles auto show this week. This 9-5 Aero BioPower is propelled by a 310hp/325 lb.-ft, 2.3-liter turbo fueled by E85 — an 85% Ethanol 15% flex fuel supported by Saab parent GM. The US concept is considerably more powerful than Saab's BioPower 9-5 sold in Sweden, which tops out at 180hp, (that model accounts for for 70 percent of 9-5 sales in that country), making a possible corn-fueled run across Iowa a matter of hours, not weeks.
