As someone who has tweaked a diesel to within a few degrees of piston meltage, I can say it would have been more enjoyable if I didn't have to watch the EGT.

I untweaked said engine, 'cause I was sick-and-tired of having to watch the EGT every time there was a grade of more than 0.7%...or a 7 MPH headwind.

However, for the Cummins ISB, and others I think, the VMSpc has been available for years, and plugs directly in to the engine computer, so you can read throttle opening, fuel rate, fuel consumed accurate to the tenth of a gallon, etc.

Hell, I have five freakin' trip odometers set up on mine.

The TST Powermax3 computer-tricker will dump amazing amounts of fuel and allow stoopid boost on the ISB.

It's only dorky when you set up alarms for when your corrected EGT goes out of range for the given corrected engine speed. #bankspower

As stupid as that (or stacks in the bed) look, I'm pretty sure in a tuned diesel the massive straight pipes are a performance gain. Some of those Cummins are fast enough this is the only view some would see.

Either way, that guy would want to know his EGT's I bet. #bankspower
