Driving an H3 in Iraq makes about 1,000% more sense than driving one in suburban [major US city]...and even third world countries have a few rich people...so why is it counter-intuitive that H3's would sell well in Iraq? If anything, it's counter-intuitive that H3's ever sold well in the US...
@Cognitive Friction: I was in Costa Rica about 5 years ago, where Toyotas and Hyundais are the most common cars. Once, when we saw a Hummer H2 stopped at an intersection, my friend dared me to go and ask the driver, "Tiene la coca, señor?"
Another time, I met a shop owner who had his 500 hp twin turbo Supra parked outside. I had to wonder if he was selling more than just souvenirs.
Does this mean a guy could make a good living stealing H3s and shipping them to Iraq? Seems to me that guy would be considered a hero at both ends of the deal.

The H3 isn't really deserving of the usual "Hummer hate," since it's hardly worse than the other Thai 5-cyl GM vehicles upon which it's based (Canyon/Colorado).
The H2 is a hog from every angle, but the H3 is almost like a more economical alternative to Wrangler or FJ Cruiser.
What blows my mind is that there are people in Iraq constantly complaining about how terrible their quality of life is as a result of the US Occupation. It's apparently so bad that they can afford to go out and buy a vehicle the 20% of the US population can't afford to buy.
Don't get me wrong, I was against the while Iraq thing from the beginning, but that doesn't mean these asswipes are going to get any pity from me for that one.
I know, it was extreme hyperbole on my part. I'm just getting a little bent out of shape on the principle of the matter. So many people around the world claim to hate the US, but when it comes down to it, what culture do the emulate? It sure as hell ain't Soviet Russia.

Ive had an 07 H3 with the lux package and a 5-speed manual, its a great car and a blast to drive with a stick. The gas mileage isnt that bad, on a trip last year I took in it, I got a few tanks up to 22.5MPG. If they put a 6-speed rather than the 5, i dont see why it couldnt get 24-25 on the highway.
@mschuplin: I never understood why they stuck the H3 with the anemic I-5 from the Colorado instead of the I-6 as it's full bodied Trailblazer cousin receives.
"Despite representing the occupying American military"
You mean the same American military most Iraqis do NOT want to see leave any time soon, because they know it's what is keeping the jihadis and Baathists from slaughtering them?
I used to hate the H3, but I rented one from Avis when I was down in Dallas on a business trip (when in Rome, I figured), and its actually not bad at all. If I were in the market for an SUV of that size, it would be a strong contender.

Ever thrown that into a conversation randomly to mess with someone? I've done it, it's great fun.
