Wait, what?

Despite a denial of the possibility by GM CEO Fritz Henderson, Automotive News reports this morning Tom Stephens, GM's vice-chairman of global product development is claiming there's still the possibility the Pontiac G8 will show up in another GM brand. The things is he doesn't actually say that. But his quote in the report? It doesn't so much say that:

"I know there's still discussions on it," says Stephens. "But Chevrolet already has several sedans. How many sedans do you need to cover the waterfront?"

Hmm, that reads more to us like "I know enthusiasts are discussing this, but we're not going to be doing it." There aren't any more sources they're quoting in today's piece.

We're glad to see Automotive News has shed the shackles of reporting constructs of the "mainstream" media and now has the same — if not worse — reporting standards than us mere bloggers. [Automotive News]

<![CDATA[Sign Of The Automotive Apocalypse: Automotive News Is The New Fast Lane Daily?]]> Everyone’s favorite source of automotive news, Automotive News, is launching a daily video from the fast lane called "Automotive News Today." The 3-minute segment will be presented by some guy in an ill-fitting suit and a bad haircut "veteran broadcast journalist" Tom Worobec and attempt to present an overview of daily news that has the potential of affecting automakers, dealers and suppliers. There’s just one problem.

Like Crain's text-based news service, "Automotive News Today" will only be available to paid subscribers and won’t be syndicated on YouTube or any other similar web video service. It’ll therefore only be available to a small, captive audience that already consumes Automotive News content. With no potential for reaching a wider audience through syndication and only seeking to repackage existing content in an annoying package, we fail to see the point of the publication investing in video. I guess we’ll just have to keep watching Wert on CNBC or Spinelli on Fast Lane Daily. [Source: Automotive News]

<![CDATA[Breaking Not So Much! Automotive News Fans Flames Of GM-Chrysler Talks]]> Although the mainstream automotive media establishment has discarded the rumors of the General acquiring the 'merican side of the German-American hybrid like dogs discarding a meatless bone, it appears one publication's not backing away from this here chew-toy. The folks at Keith Crain's source for all News that's Automotive are not only still pushing the story, they're even claiming today's NYT story on Big-UV platform sharing is just the tip of the iceberg. We're not entirely convinced they've got anything more than what we had earlier this week from manager-magazin.de, but hey — we'll keep our ears to the you know, whatever.
