    I actually read the whole thing, and wow, that deserves to be made into an episode of CSI: Forums or something. I feel only pity for him, although I do hope he wins a Darwin Award or something.

    BTW; there was a story in the Pulitzer prize winning LA Times a few years back about a Boyle Heights body shop owner who had his semi-tricked out Datsun 510 stolen. A few days after the theft, it rolled into his shop, and the "owner" got out and asked about getting the windows tinted. After explaining the situation to the thief, the body shop guy sat on him until the po-po arrived. I think he out-weighed the teen car thief by a good 175 lbs. Good times, good times.

    @Deartháir: I can't get Youtube because I'm at work, but about a decade ago, some idiot stole a racing Acura Integra at the Toronto Grand Prix. The car was awaiting inspection after winning its class in the Magna Series (now the Grand-Am Koni Series). The idiot and his friend went out for a joyride on the track. The police eventually caught them.


    What is it with Acuras bringing out the stupidity in people?

    @Deartháir: We used to go up to Canada (Montreal, St Catherine's Street) every year on the Fourth of July. We (about 30 of us guys) would stay in a hotel on St. Catherine's Street and hang a huge American flag from the balcony. Most people were cool and wished us a Happy 4th- some got mad (I understood, its national pride)- to those who got mad we would shout "It's only a matter of time."

    @Ash78: Well, if it's any indication, I left my sunroof and windows open accidentally last night, and I live in a rough part of town. I have a touchscreen in-dash DVD player, a GPS unit, an iPod, a netbook, a radar detector, some magazines, and a huge wad of Canadian Tire money. Not only was nothing touched, but at about 11PM someone came and tapped on my living-room window. "Is that your car? Thought you should know, the windows and sunroof are open, and it's supposed to rain tonight!"

    @Deartháir: I live in a nice part of Indiana. Generally, I would say people would agree that the midwest is pretty safe and all, but that car would be gone if it were parked here. Hell, someone tried to steal my '87 Chevy camping truck. I thought they tried to loot it (it's unlocked 24/7) and just got pissed that there was nothing of worth inside (surprise, that's why it's unlocked) because the steering column was broken one morning. A cop that I play poker with informed that you steal old Chevys in that manner. I'm not sure where I'm giong with this any longer, but I am in awe of how people act in a bad part of town in Canada v/s a nice part of the Bible Belt in the US.

    She then left and climbed into a Nitro.


    Now, if she wants to park outside my workplace and Nitro herself with an open sunroof, that puts a whole new spin on everything.

    @Ash78: I live in Rexdale, a part of Toronto. More murders happen here than in any other neighbourhood. My friend got a brand new radio unit for his crappy Sunfire. Middle of the night, glass broken and it was taken. I also heard a story about a kid who had his iPod on him, was stabbed and robbed. In fact, there was even a stabbing at a Sikh temple. Not to mention, my old car was stolen while parked in my driveway. Shit happens here.

    This guy gets extra credit for actually welding a ring and pinion together. The pictures make the troll much more powerful-- you know that old "pics or it didn't happen" thing? Yeah, this troll did his homework.


    Also, check out the earlier thread where the guy asks about welding up his gears: "Heat it up good, make sure the gear oil is glowing, and don't use the welding mask. Can't see shit when you do."
