Chevrolet announces the 2010 Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition

DETROIT - Fans of the new Camaro and the blockbuster TRANSFORMERS movies can now combine their love of the car and the films with the Chevrolet Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition announced today at Comic-Con in San Diego.

"When the first TRANSFORMERS movie was setting box office records, we had countless customers asking to purchase the 'BUMBLEBEE' Camaro," said Karen Rafferty, product marketing director, Chevrolet. "Now, they can buy one with the new Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition. Streets all over North America will be buzzing in no time."

Features such as an EPA-rated 29 highway mpg on the V6-powered Camaro, Bluetooth phone connectivity, USB connectivity, XM Satellite Radio and OnStar combined with TRANSFORMERS design cues add to the car's status as a 21st century sports car.

"Hasbro is thrilled to team up with Chevrolet and excited to see the Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition come to market for our fans to enjoy," said Samantha Lomow, Global Brand Leader for TRANSFORMERS at Hasbro. "The yellow Camaro with the black stripes has become so iconic and closely associated with the BUMBLEBEE character that this edition was a natural fit for both companies."

While the aggressive styling of the Camaro is unmistakable, true TRANSFORMERS fans will notice some of the unique, but subtle features of the Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition.

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition includes the following:

* AUTOBOT® shield on the driver and passenger side panels
* AUTOBOT® shield on each of the four wheel's center cap
* AUTOBOT® shield embroidered on interior center console
* "TRANSFORMERS" logo on driver and passenger doors' sill plates
* "TRANSFORMERS" logo embedded into the hood rally stripes
* High-gloss black center rally stripe package
* Manufacturer's suggested retail price of package: $995

Dealers are now taking orders for this car. Customers can order the TRANSFORMERS Special Edition as either a Rally Yellow LT or SS model. The optional RS appearance package can also be added.

The V6-powered Camaro uses a 3.6L engine with variable valve timing to optimize performance and fuel economy. It is SAE-certified at 304 horsepower (227 kW) and 273 lb.-ft. of torque (370 Nm). A six-speed manual transmission is standard with the 3.6L engine; a Hydra-Matic 6L50 electronically controlled six-speed automatic, with TAPshift control, is available.

The high-performance Camaro SS is equipped with a powerful 6.2L V-8, with a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Manual transmission-equipped models receive the LS3 engine, SAE-certified at 426 horsepower (318 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. of torque (569 Nm). It is paired with a TR6060 six-speed transmission.

A new, L99 V-8 engine is used on automatic transmission-equipped SS models. It is based on the LS3, but also includes GM's fuel-saving Active Fuel Management feature. It is SAE-certified at 400 horsepower (298 kW) and 410 lb.-ft. of torque (556 Nm). It is matched with a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed transmission that helps delivers an EPA-estimated 25 mpg on the highway.

<![CDATA[Transformers 2: Megatron Really a Tank?]]> Adding a smidgen of confirmation to rumors that Megatron will be a tank in next summer's Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is this image of a villainous bot with tank treads. While it may just be a concept for a possible design, it definitely looks capable of some serious robo-butt-kicking. The Corvette Centennial had better watch its back. [via seibertron]

<![CDATA[Leaked Transformers Corvette Centennial Concept Toy Possibly Reveals Robot Mode]]> Leaked photos of a clay mold for a cheap Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen toy of the Corvette Centennial Concept may be showing us the robot mode for a character we're told will be called either "Hot Rod" or "Stinger." So cheap in fact, it doesn’t actually transform, instead relying on a carved depiction on the underside to please the robot-loving kiddies. The interesting thing is the 2D robot’s design is nearly identical to the supposedly fan-made Stinger renderings that leaked last week, clearly showing large double-edge blades in place of hands.

Of course, it’s also possible this is a hoax, or some unlicensed Chinese knock-off instead of an officially licensed product. But we do know that the Corvette Centenial concept has been repeatedly spied running with Autobots on the Transformers 2 set and that the inclusing of a not-yet-released GM concept indicated that this should be a reasonably major character. We’re going to wait for a toy that actually transforms before plunking down our hard earned cash on a new toy for our, ummm, nephews. [Transformers Live Action Movie Blog]

<![CDATA[Transformers 2: The Chevy Trax Declares Its Allegiance]]>

Chevy-Trax-Autobot.jpgWe first saw the Chevy Trax last week on the set of Transformers 2 in the City of Brotherly Love, but the shot raised more questions than answers. Who was this new Transformer? Friend or foe? Well, today reveals the truth: The Trax will be playing for the good guys in the role of an as-yet unnamed Autobot. We find a certain humor in the fact that we can't tell who just yet because the robot is in disguise; of course, that's the point. We're wondering if Ironhide gets chopped in twain and melted down to make two more fuel-efficient 'bots. After all, we haven't seen the Chevy Beat, the Trax and Ironhide all in the same place yet. <![CDATA[Buy A Chevy Aveo, Get A Free Autobot]]> Who knew the Transformers craziness for the General could last this long. They've got a promotion going on where if you buy a brand spankin' new Chevy Aveo, you'll get yourself a limited-edition transformin' Aveo that goes by the name of "Swerve." There's only going to be 2000 of them, so get your Aveo today to get your hands on one. If you think this promotion won't work, just check out the following comment from the boys over at Transformers fan forum-site Seibertron:

"Let's hope there is a way to get this that does not involve shelling out tons of money. Or those of us who are Transformers completists will also be driving brand new Aveo's shortly."
Just add 2000 more Aveos to the end of next month's sales numbers.

<![CDATA[Help Jalopnik Decide What To Wear: Autobot Or Decepticon?]]> Ladies and gentlemen, it's now robogasm time. This evening we'll be heading on over to a special preview screening of the new live-action Transformers movie with other auto writers — and even a couple of movie critics. Critics are interested? Who knew. But now we've got an interesting problem to deal with. You see, although we were disappointed to find there's no costume shop in town with an Optimus Prime costume, we were able to come up with a couple of options for attire thanks to our gadget-obsessed brother site. But here's the deal — you know how some days you feel like a nut, and some days you don't? Well — we're kinda having the same problem — except some days we feel like a Mustang-loving Decepticon and some days we feel like a Chevy-embracing Autobot. Thus, here's the question — which do we go as tonight? You decide! Oh and yes, the Autobot shirt lights up — so I may end up wearing that one just because.
