    I purposely avoided any talk of this car last night. I was afraid. I was afraid it would be an ugly bastardization of a great car. I was afraid it would tarnish the Audi brand. A brand who has a reputation for delivering great cars without compromise. I was afraid that like many covertibles who started life as a coupe it would wind up being horribly executed.

    Well, it's not ugly. In fact, they did a great job on it. The trademark sideblades are gone, which is probably the worst aspect of the transformation, and confirms my bastardization fear. However, it's not horribly executed.

    I will have to wait and see what the performance is like before my fear of tarnishment is alleviated. I have a feeling this came about as a, "Crap we have to have a convertible" moment. We'll have to see.

    I don't see what's wrong with a nice dark metallic bronze color. It's not as though this car needs a sporting color to communicate its life role as a priapic validator, and it's perfect for the fall collection.

    Gone are the trademark sideblades on the coupe, creating, what we feel, is a much cleaner execution.

    Zat is because choo are WRONG WRONG WRONG! Now GET over here for your BEATINGS!

    ...Which is my way of saying that this is not an improvement. I'm one of, what, twelve people in the world who genuinely loves the R8 and thinks it's a beautiful car. This is not an improvement, nor is it a "cleaner execution". It's a bastardization, that's what it is.

    @Deartháir II: The Return: I guess I'm one of the twelve. Love the R8, but frankly, I don't think a cab version could look much better than this. We know the R8 first and foremost as a coupe...Familiarity, contempt, etc.

    @crespo: I think you're right, a cabriolet version couldn't look much better... but that doesn't mean it's good. It just means they should have left it as a coupe.

    Really? Nobody else (so far) sees Carrera GT? The resemblance comes out the most in the thumbnails of pictures 2 and 3, to me. I think it's very clearly reminiscent of that great Porsche.

    Maybe I am the odd one out here but I am actually liking that color. This coming from a guy who hates all shades of brown, gold, yellow, turd etc etc. Yes turd is a color.

    Want to know another weird thing? I actually like the way this convertible looks better than the regular R8. And I hate convertibles of all sorts, doesn't matter the make or model. Maybe I need to get my eyesight checked.

    Either way, can I have one with the factory installed UPS decals option please?

    Damn, what's wrong with you Jalops lately?

    At least wait to see it in the flesh. Take a look at the new 458, you'll notice the proportions are pretty similar here (headrest distance to front and rear wheels). Remember the R8 isn't exactly a long car to begin with...

    I agree it doesn't look as good as the coupe, but Jalops crying over anything with a mid-mounted V10 should stick to Jezebel. Jeebus.
