I really like this execution of the "four-door coupé" style. The Panamera is hideous, the Rapide is interesting, the CLS is old, but I think this will look very good in the metal. Audi has a way of giving their cars a road presence that doesn't always come through in pics (A5?).

As for the interior, I think it's a great step out of the heavy Teutonic style and into real luxury territory - hope it'll make the production version. It has a definite feel of Flavio Manzoni (worked with him at Lancia, now he's VW's "Head of Creative Design"). Most brilliant interior designer I've ever seen.

Oh, I WANT that interior! That is a place i would have no problem spending extended periods of time. It's clean, sleek, uncluttered, and just plain beautiful.

Reminds me of a well executed mod of a early 60s classic. Do want.

    The interior is Gorgeous!

I had a "courtesy car" from Lexus last week (mine had a crack in the windshield) which had a beige leather interior, light brown (milk chocolate-ish) plastics and yellowy wood inserts.. so ugly... I almost refused to drive in it... Audi on the other hand, they almost always get it so right.

Is anyone else REALLY reminded of the side-profile of the Panamera? You want to talk about hideous... /shudder.

It's fine from the front. Fine from the back. But it's two doors too long. Sportback, guys. You just got eaten by porsche- take a lesson from when they built cars you'd want to buy. Sportback = 944. All you have to do is lop two doors off and then angle the tail up a little bit and you've got a winner from Audi.

If I wanted a hatchback A6, I'd buy the wagon. Capisce?

@Wankelin_for_a_Rotary: I see it, but it's not nearly as bad. The problem w/ the Porsche is that it keeps going down- this has a nice little trunk lip to tuck the greenhouse into.

It's like a taller, nicer version of the Skoda Superb Twindoor. And I definitely don't have a problem with that.

I like the idea of the liftback; there are always times they come in handy. I think the avant is even better, but this is good too.

I don't get all the venom. Okay, admittedly, I wish Audi would just focus on what they're really fucking good at - RS4, RS5, RS6, R8 - but I don't see the problem with it. I admit, I have a German car bias, so maybe that's clouding my judgement, but I don't think so. I hated the BMW X6, and thought it looked like a semi-melted Aztek. This, to me, while not exactly gorgeous, certainly isn't bad, and is a whole heaping hell of a lot better than, well, ANYTHING out of Toyota.

Blame it all on the ridiculous CAFE Requirements here in the States. Again, until we reform the fuel economy standards, there will be two different targets, one for cars, and one for trucks. This will be classified as a Truck, and will only have to achieve a lower standard, as well as not get hit with a Gas Guzzler charge that only cars seem to be assessed with.

This is also the main reason why we don't see more Wagons instead of these crossovers. This would be one of the first things that should be changed with the new administration, but there is so many things that need to be changed, where to start?

@UDMan: The Germans ignore the CAFE standards, they elect to just pay the fines.

@kumbayacars: Yes, they do. But they still produce trucks, which they don't have to. The Touareg, BMW X3, X5, X6, Porsche Cayenne, and even the Audi Q7 are all Truck Based. And all of them could be replaced by wagon versions of their sedans.

This counts as a crossover? Why, because it has tires the size of Ferris wheels?

While renderings do look cool with monstrous tires, somehow I feel ambivalent seeing them actually on a concept. Heartbreaking.
