The event was held at the Red Gate Gallery in Beijing and was attended by Ferrari owners and collectors (already sounds pretty obnoxious). The 599 China, which was created by artist Lu Hao, was won by an anonymous bidder from Shanghai with the proceeds going to Tsinghua University's Department of Automotive Engineering school with the intent to sponsor student and professor studies in Italy's Politecnico di Milano University or allow internships at Ferrari. At least they didn't get NIGO to paint it.

'Ferrari 599 China' Auctioned In Beijing For 1.2 Million Euro

BEIJING – November 4, 2009: The unique Ferrari 599 China was won tonight by an anonymous client from Shanghai at the final price of about 1.2 million euro (including taxes). The auction was the climax of the Gala dinner organised by Ferrari at the Red Gate Gallery in Beijing. Lu Hao, the first Chinese artist to work with Ferrari, created this special model decorated with Song Dynasty Ge Kiln pottery patterns. The proceeds from this auction will fund outstanding students and young teachers of Tsinghua University's Department of Automotive Engineering to study at Italy's Politecnico di Milano University and internship at Ferrari's headquarters.

The gala dinner was attended by Ferrari owners and collectors, joined by Ferrari Asia Pacific CEO Mr. Marco Mattiacci, contemporary artist Lu Hao, professors of China's leading Tsinghua University Cen Zhangzhi and delegate of Politecnico di Milano University Bruno Pizzigoni. A few Ferrari objects, in particular a helmet and a model car signed by Michael Schumacher, who this morning personally unveiled the car to the international media, were also auctioned together with a racing overall worn by F1 driver, Giancarlo Fisichella. The innovative appearance of this unique model, blending classic Chinese elements with Ferrari distinctive features, immediately aroused great interest among the guests.

This follows the spirit of Ferrari founder, Enzo Ferrari, carried on by Chairman Luca di Montezemolo, in investing in young talents and research. Ferrari was involved before in goodwill activities with Chinese associations, dedicated to youth.

<![CDATA[Truppi-Kling Chevelle Drag Racer Depreciates $1 Million In 3 Years, New Owner Gets Screamin' Deal]]> You need nerves like bridge cables to play the muscle car auction game, as exemplified by the crazy ups and downs of the famous Truppi-King Chevelle SS 454 convertible.

Back in 1970, Ralph Truppi and Tommy Kling built an LS6-equipped Chevelle convertible into a machine that utterly dominated the SS/EA class that season. After that, the car knocked around the country in your typical famous-race-car odyssey, eventually getting restored back to street-legal trim and selling for $1.2 million at Barrett-Jackson in 2006. Last month, the same car fetched... $264,000 at auction. What will it be worth when the Financiopocalypse is over?

<![CDATA[Bumblebee Camaro Up For Auction — The Cool One!]]> If you're a decent person who saw the first Transformers movie, your neck veins popped out in rage when the perfectly lovable 1977 Camaro transformed into the slick modern version. Well, now the "fully functional" '77 is for sale.

Yes, it says the Cool Version of Bumblebee is "fully functional" (spare us, Star Trek fans) with riveted cowl induction hood scoop, Cragars front, Eric Vaughn Real Wheels in back, Moon decal, T-grip shifter, and an eight-track player. Mileage isn't specified, but it comes with a certificate of authenticity from Bay Films, perhaps one of the few things thing that ever could. It's expected to bring between $12,000 and $15,000, which seems low. We recommend the buyer clearcoat over the rust scars and drive it every day. [Profiles In History]

<![CDATA[Eight-Million-Dollar-Question: Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupé or Tyrannosaurus Rex?]]> One is 45 years old, the other 66 million. One is 13' long, the other 42. Both are awesome and both are American. Which one would you buy?

While Wert, Krewson and I were in Detroit to gawk at American cars at the Woodward Dream Cruise, the record was broken in Monterey for the most money ever paid for an American car. Not any old American car, of course. In a sale organized by Mecum Auctions, someone paid $7.25 million for the Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupé—chassis number CSX2601—which carried Bob Bondurant to his 1965 FIA World Manufacturers Championship on July 4, 1965 at Reims, France. No word on whether he was served freedom fries with his victory champagne.

There is a good chance, dear reader, that the buyer was not you. However, if you happen to have money in that neighborhood to spend and wish to own something just as awesomely American as the Daytona Coupé, book a flight to Las Vegas for October 3. On sale at the Venetian casino will be Samson, the third most complete skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus rex ever found.

Tyrannousaurs lived in North America in the late Cretaceous period, around 68–65 million years ago. Samson was found in 1992 in South Dakota, a major source of dinosaur fossils. Recovered were 170 of his bones, which is more than half of a complete skeleton.

“In the last 110 years, there’s been a total of 46 specimens found of Tyrannosaurus rex of which this is the third most complete and has the finest skull,” said Tom Lindgren of the auction house Bonhams & Butterfields, as quoted by Wired. Samson is expected to fetch millions of dollars, possibly exceeding the price of Sue—the biggest tyrannosaur ever found—which the Field Museum of Natural History purchased for $8,362,500 in 1997.

You would need a mighty home to give Samson ample breathing room but at least he’s already mounted and ready to be displayed, unlike Sue, who came in boxes, IKEA-style. And while it might be nice to have a Daytona in your garage, ready to race, how often would you actually go out and drive it at speed?

Whereas you could set up your dinner table beneath Samson and have massive dinners of red meat in the shadow of a tyrannosaur. You might even try feeding him scraps (if you happen to like hadrosaurburgers, that is).

So what’s your call? Daytona, tyrannosaur—or ¾ of a Ferrari 250 GTO?

<![CDATA[Epic 275-Classic Car Junkyard Collection Headed To Auction]]> If you're anywhere near Palmya, Nebraska this weekend, you should plan to hit the estate auction of John Armbrust. Over the past 50 years he collected more than 275 vehicles, and they're all for sale. Absolutely epic gallery below.

Apparently, when Mr. Armbrust left this world, he had a lot of unfinished projects, having collected over 275 examples of the good, the bad, and the ugly in transportation history over the last 80 or so years. From a Bultaco motorcycle to a diesel Buick, there's something here for every taste and automotive perversion. Want a '57 Chevy two door? There's eight of 'em. 1958 Pontiac Chieftain 4-door? You bet. A Vega? Sure enough. What looks like a Packard Custom 8 is something really capturing our fancy. Below is a partial list of the vehicles that'll be on the sale this Saturday, going under the gavel of Speckman Realty and Auction Services, and even it is a whopper. This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime auctions that makes you wish for a really big trailer and a lot of garage space. We normally hesitate to use the word "epic," but to describe this cache of classics, we think it's appropriate.

<![CDATA[Auto Union Type D Race Car To Auction For $8 Million]]> Lamborghini V12’s are passé. Three million people have seen that clip of a Countach with custom exhausts revving its engine. Let’s see what Lamborghini’s parent company can do in the V12 department.

Audi’s last V12 ran on diesel and won at Le Mans three times between 2006 and 2008. The one before that was built seventy years before, ran on gasoline, and powered the Auto Union Type D in the 1938 and 1939 seasons of the European Grand Prix Championship. It was Ferrari-small, only three liters of displacement, but by the time it gained two-stage supercharging for 1939, the engine developed close to 500 HP. This was the car Tazio Nuvolari hit a deer with, in practice for the 1938 Donington Grand Prix.

If you would like to one-up the great little man of Mantua and upgrade to perhaps smacking into a bison, now is your chance: chassis #19 of the Type D will be up for auction by Bonhams & Butterfields on August 14 in Carmel, California. Number nineteen was driven by Nuvolari’s teammate Hans Stuck on the Nürburgring and at Reims.

Expect to spend about $8,000,000 and remember: bison are large, aggressive animals.

<![CDATA[2007 Playmate Of The Year’s Mini S Drop-Top Pops Up On eBay]]> Sara Jean Underwood's Mini is for sale on eBay. There's plenty of pictures of her posing with it, but at $34,999 you'd have to be crazy to click Buy It Now. Or a stalker.

The Mini was given to Sara when she won 2007 Playmate of the Year. She's apparently lost interest in the car now that she's move back to Oregon.

A 2007 Mini Cooper S convertible with leather and auto transmission, the car has just 12,900 miles on it, which is likely far fewer than Sara has on herself. The auction says the car is in excellent condition, "There are no dents or dings, mechanical problems and comes from a smoke-free enviroment."

A quick search of eBay reveals other 2007 Mini Cooper S convertibles with Buy It Now prices as low as $24,500. For our money, we'd buy one of those, then satisfy ourselves with a quick and free Google search for "Sara Jean Underwood nude." [eBay via Autoblog.nl]

<![CDATA[Nice Price Or Crack Pipe: A 1962 Flaminia for Just $210,0000!]]> Wait, what's this? Have you missed Nice Price or Crack Pipe? Well, it's back. So get out your passport and checkbook, because today we've got a six-figure Flaminia, coming to us by way of Switzerland.

We've asked our very own Jalopnik commenter Graverobber to help us out with bringing everyone's favorite choose-your-own-imaginary-destiny-by-way-of-polldaddy-poll feature back to Jalopnik. Let us know what you think in the comments below. —Ed.

You say you want history? You say you want Zagato coachwork? How about triple Webers on a sweet V6? Well then step right up and take a gander at this mostly original 1962 Lancia Flaminia 2.5 3C with Zagato bodywork. The 3C indicates the triple two-barrel Weber induction, which bumped the horsepower by 21 over the single Solex engine. The seller claims that the car spent 12 years in storage in Switzerland, so it should at least come with a trunk full of chocolate. Maybe not, but you can still enjoy the Rubenesque form and double bubble roof line, none the less.

As one of only 152 produced, and with an impeccable lineage, there's no doubt about this car's desirability, but the question remains: is it worth $210,000? Two hundred and ten thousand? That's enough to keep GM afloat an additional 13 minutes. Or, you could buy a giant white truffle — if you were so inclined.

So, what'll it be- a possible future invitation to the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, or your own personal giant white truffle?

You decide!

<![CDATA[Michael Jackson's Tacky Rolls Royce Limo Going To Auction]]> Things haven't been great for Michael Jackson since the whole "child molestation trial" thing. Leaving the country and hemorrhaging money isn't helping either. Auctioning off his incredibly gaudy Rolls Royce limousine, however, might help.

The stretched Rolls Royce Silver Seraph along with other Jackson memorabilia will be up for bid by Julien's Auctions at the Beverley Hills Hilton. The dark blue Seraph wears an interior which looks to have been pulled directly from the Palace of Versailles and seats five, seven if you must include the front cabin passengers.

The car fits in perfectly with the unintentionally creepy portrait of the Prince of Pop the wider auction paints — especially the larger-than-life Superman figure and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves sculpture. Price guidance puts the car at $140,000 - $160,000, don't spend too much time investigating the upholstery. [The Gaurdian]

<![CDATA[1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa: Vintage Ferrari Expected To Break World Auction Record]]> The 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa is unarguably one of the most beautiful and successfully designed race cars ever. RM Auctions has one. It's perfect and expected to destroy the $10,894,400 record set last year.

This particular 250 Testa Rossa, number 0714TR, was successfully raced during the late 50's and early sixties in places like Brazil, Cuba, and Portugal and after an active career now exists in this restored state, wearing it's factory black and red livery. Every aspect of the car is factory perfect right down to the crackle finish on the valve covers of the snarling V12. Only 22 of these pontoon fender Testa Rossas were ever built, and after the 250 GTO, the 250 TRs are considered the most desirable Ferrari's in history. Current private valuations of lesser examples of these cars hover around $8 million, and if the auction price rises to that level it enters the hunt to become the most expensive car ever sold at auction. We couldn't think of a more worthy titleholder.

LEGENDARY FERRARI ‘PONTOON-FENDER' TESTA ROSSA EXPECTED TO BREAK WORLD AUCTION RECORD AT FERRARI LEGGENDA E PASSIONE
RM Auctions, in association with Sotheby's, announce the most significant and desirable Ferrari to be offered on the world's auction stage – the legendary 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa (TR). Expected to set a new world record* for a vintage motor car sold at auction, this exciting car will be offered at RM Auctions' exclusive ‘Ferrari Leggenda e Passione' event, May 17, 2009 in Maranello, Italy.

LONDON, England (February 5, 2009) – RM Auctions, in association with Sotheby's, will present one of the most historically significant and valuable Ferrari racing cars ever offered at auction, the legendary 1957 Ferrari 250 TR (chassis no. 0714TR), when the famed Ferrari Leggenda e Passione event returns to Maranello, May 17, 2009. Held during the final stretch of the famous Mille Miglia retrospective, the exclusive annual event will offer an unprecedented collection of historic Ferraris for auction.

Considered one of the most alluring, competitive and iconic of all Ferrari racing cars, the beautiful and immediately recognizable Scaglietti-designed, ‘pontoon-fender' 250 TR was produced from 1957 to 1958 during which only 22 were constructed. The Ferrari 250 TRs entered 19 international championship races from 1958 through 1961 emerging with 10 victories and earning them legendary status among discerning collectors, as well as the honor of being one of the most desirable and competitive racing Ferraris ever built.

"This legendary 250 TR is one of the most exciting motor cars ever to be presented in auction history," said Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Europe.

"The Ferrari Leggenda e Passione event, now in its third year, is firmly established as the place to sell important road and race going Ferraris, and we are delighted to present this stunning 250 TR at its Maranello birthplace," he added.

0714TR was extensively campaigned in its day with significant finishes at the world's most important racing events and is now being offered at auction for the first time. The car is resplendent in its period race-correct black livery and red nose.

In December 1957, this car was delivered to its first owner, racing driver and future coachbuilder, Piero Drogo in Modena, Italy. Drogo debuted the car as a privateer in the celebrated 1000 km Buenos Aires in January 1958 with a respectable fourth place finish competing with such legendary drivers as Phil Hill, Peter Collins, Wolfgang von Trips and Olivier Gendebien. Following entries in the Grand Prix of Cuba and Portugal, the car was sold by American Ferrari agent Luigi Chinetti to Texas rancher and entrepreneur Alan Connell whose competitive driving skills and affluence afforded him several wins on the 1959 North American racing circuit. 0714TR continued its prowess on the track with subsequent owners and competed in its last professional race in June 1963 at the Elkhart Lake 500.

The Ferrari 250 TR has become an enduring and exceedingly valuable classic whose soaring lines and sculptural elegance give it a sense of speed even when standing still. The legendary s/n 0714TR is by far the most campaigned of the 250TR cliente series cars with a fascinating ownership and racing history, establishing its rarified place in the collector world as one of the most beautiful and valuable Ferraris ever offered in auction history.

All cars presented at the Ferrari Leggenda e Passione event will be certified by Ferrari Classiche.

*Note to Editors: The current world record for the most expensive vintage motor car ever to be sold at auction is held by RM Auctions, in association with Sotheby's, for a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder (s/n 2377GT) which sold for $10,894,400 USD (€7,040,000, £5,598,208 GBP). This current world record was set at Ferrari Leggenda e Passione, in Maranello, Italy on May 18, 2008.

<![CDATA[Gulf Oil Corvette Z06 Dominates Florida Auction With $1.05 Million Price Tag]]> Were you interested in Dick Thompson's SCCA-dominating 1963 Corvette Z06? Sorry, you lost your chance. It just went for $1.05 million at the Mecum auction in Kissimmee, Florida.

This weekend saw the car sell for that staggering sum at the Mecum Kissimmee, Florida auction to a private bidder who we're hoping can appreciate the significance of this car. The 'Vette in question was the first delivered from Yenko Chevrolet to Gulf Oil's Grady Davis in October 1962. It was then race prepared for the Puerto Rico Grand Prix where it scored its first class win.

This Gulf Oil-sponsored Z06 became the most successful factory-backed production racing Corvette of the C2 era. Gulf One was a master of the track and managed GT3 wins at Daytona, Danville, Road America, and more. Can we say now how jealous we are of the new owner of this car? Cause we are. A lot. <![CDATA[2009 Barrett-Jackson Auction Scottsdale: Eight Highest-Priced Cars Through Day Three]]> The big Barrett-Jackson car auction in Scottsdale's going on right now and we're already into the fourth day of hot gavel action. Here's the eight top cars that have found new owners through day three.

With so much metal at the auction coming from the sale of a selection of classics from the GM Heritage Center museum, it's interesting that the top eight cars that've been sold so far at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, AZ all came from that collection. Here's the top eight sales — so far.

8.) 1974 Pontiac Trans Am

Sale Price*: $73,700.00

7.) 2007 Chevrolet Silverado "Dale Earnhardt Jr. Big Red" SEMA Concept

Lot Number: 114
Details: The Dale Earnhardt Jr. "Big Red" Silverado is based on the all-new, 2007 Chevy Silverado crew cab and features custom exterior appointments, an off-road-ready suspension, one-off custom 20" wheels at Dale Jr.'s request, a custom interior and more. This one-of-a-kind Silverado builds on Earnhardt's personal notion of off-road enjoyment, which was previously conveyed in his personal truck - a previous-generation Silverado named "Big Red." Earnhardt collaborated with GM designers on the truck, visiting the GM Design studio in Warren, Mich. to discuss the exterior and interior enhancements, which include all-new front-end sheet metal and rear fenders, as well as a "flying bridge"-type roll bar with integrated off-road driving lamps. The interior is as luxurious as the exterior is off-road-capable, with rich, black leather upholstery and other details. The Dale Earnhardt Jr. "Big Red" Silverado is powered by GM Powertrain's 6.2 Liter Gen IV V8 engine, a high-output, all-aluminum engine with variable valve timing that produces 380hp and 417 lb/ft of torque. It transfers its power to all four wheels via a Hydra-Matic 4-speed electronically controlled transmission. The front and rear axles are equipped with 3.73 gears and Eaton ELocker electronic locking differentials, which help the truck deliver exhilarating performance with tall off-road tires. Stopping power is enhanced with a set of Baer disc brakes, including six-piston calipers and 15" cross-drilled rotors in the front and twin-piston floating calipers with 13" cross-drilled rotors in the rear. It's a concept, and like the others, is not legal for driving on public roads.
Day Sold: Tuesday, January 13, 2009
Sale Price*: $88,000.00

6.) 2006 Pontiac GTO RA6 Custom

Lot Number: 738
Details: This specialty '06 GTO was a SEMA Show award winner by Kip Wasenko and the team at the GM Performance Division. It features RA6 body modifications and a Stage 3 750hp Twin Turbo Katech 402 engine with Pedders Extreme suspension and Z06 brake package. Apparently, this car can be driven on public roads — it doesn't say it can't!
Day Sold: Thursday, January 15, 2009
Sale Price*: $93,500.00

5.) 1989 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1

Lot Number: 96
Details: 1 of 83 1989 ZR-1s built and never released to the public. This car was used for media/press events and auto shows. Why'd this one go for a lower price then the other ZR-1 from '89? Probably because this one's painted purple. Also, like the other vehicles sold by GM here at the big B-J, this ZR-1 is not road legal.
Day Sold: Tuesday, January 13, 2009
Sale Price*: $110,000.00

4.) 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo "Intimidator" Show Car

Lot Number: 83
Details: A NASCAR-inspired show car that offered a glimpse of the 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo styling. Features aggressive styling cues and performance-enhancing technology. We like how it's a "street legal" car being sold on a Scrap Title — because, like most of the others, it's not able to be legally driven on public roads.
Day Sold: Tuesday, January 13, 2009
Sale Price*: $148,500.00

3.) 1990 Chevrolet Corvette "Active" ZR-1 Prototype

Lot Number: 82
Details: This vehicle pioneered the advantages of "Active Suspension" and has GTP Corvette race car technology. Built at the Bowling Green Plant, this vehicle was developed as a prototype for a limited edition run in the 1990 model year. It may not be driven on public roads.
Day Sold: Tuesday, January 13, 2009
Sale Price*: $150,700.00

2.) 1989 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 "Snake Skinner"

Lot Number: 396.1
Details: One of 83 production 1989 ZR-1s built in Bowling Green. This experimental light weight was aimed directly at maintaining Corvette's performance supremacy. With a 475hp LT5 V8 and less weight, this vehicle is GM Performance legend. Sold on a Scrap Title. May not be driven on public roads.
Day Sold: Wednesday, January 14, 2009
Sale Price*: $176,000.0

1.) 1923 Oldsmobile Custom Touring Roadster

Lot Number: 397.2
Details: This Olds concept vehicle is powered by a 4.0 Liter DOHC V8 IMSA GTS-1 race engine with an automatic 4L60E transmission, Halibrand quick change 4.10 rear, 4-wheel independent suspension, rack & pinion power steering and Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes. Also, because, like the rest, it's a GM concept, it's not legal for driving on public roads.
Day Sold: Wednesday, January 14, 2009
Sale Price*: $220,000.00

*Includes 10% Buyer's Premium

<![CDATA[Barack Obama's Chrysler 300C Auction Getting Scammed On EBay]]> Obviously someone's playing games, but the EBay auction for President-Elect Barack Obama's Chrysler 300C has rocketed up to an astonishingly fraudulent $99,999,999.00. Somebody missed out on that "Buy It Now" price of $1,000,000. UPDATE BELOW.

UPDATE: Either EBay or the seller have pulled the listing, ending it early, with the high price back down to the still-expensive-as-all-get-out $100,000. Probably a good idea they did, because at the price of $99,999,999.00, you could probably buy Chrysler. All of it. [EBay]

<![CDATA[Ford To Auction 2010 Shelby GT500, F-150 SVT Raptor At Barrett-Jackson]]> Ford's auctioning off three vehicles at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale this week — a 2010 Shelby GT500, a 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor and a Cobra Jet Mustang. The money's going to juvenile diabetes research.

FORD DONATES THREE HIGH-PERFORMANCE VEHICLES TO BENEFIT JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION

* A 2010 Ford Shelby GT500, a 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor and a Ford Racing Mustang Cobra Jet will be available at the 38th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., with proceeds donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
* The auction will be shown live at approximately 10 p.m. Eastern on Saturday on SPEED

DEARBORN, Mich., Jan 14, 2009 – The sales of three special, high-performance Ford vehicles will benefit one key charity at the always-anticipated Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Ford is offering the purchase rights to the first retail version of the 540-horsepower 2010 Ford Shelby GT500, the 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor offered to the public as well as the first Ford Racing Mustang Cobra Jet with the hood signed by several Ford drag racing legends, including John Force and Bob Glidden. Proceeds from the 38th annual auction, which will televised live at approximately 10 p.m. EST on Saturday on SPEED, will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

“We’re honored to assist the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation through these great Ford vehicles,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of The Americas.

“The Shelby GT500, SVT Raptor and Cobra Jet all will be eagerly sought by enthusiast collectors,” he added. “The Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction is always a draw, and we’re proud to be a part of it and help a great cause at the same time.”

The GT500, Raptor and Cobra Jet are the latest examples of Ford’s commitment to performance vehicles, and their auction offering is the latest in a long-standing charity partnership. Last year, Ford donated a one-off Ford Shelby GT500KR with a glass roof to the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction, and it sold for $550,000. Ford has raised more than $2 million for charity through its donations to car auctions in recent years.

The Ford Shelby GT500 and F-150 SVT Raptor being auctioned will be the first retail units sold of their respective makes, and the winning bidders can specify choice of color and other options.

Here’s what the winning bidders have to look forward to:

2010 Ford Shelby GT500

The new Shelby GT500 delivers the most power and refinement ever for a Ford SVT-tuned performance Mustang – and offers a few surprises as well. Powering the Shelby GT500 is a supercharged and intercooled 5.4-liter dual overhead cam V-8 engine producing 540 horsepower and 510 foot-pounds of torque. Upgrades to the twin-disc clutch on the six-speed manual transmission improve drivability and reduce NVH (noise, vibration, harshness).

The GT500 now combines its usual outstanding straight-line acceleration in gears 1-4 with improved fuel efficiency in its cruising gears. The new final drive ratio, from 3.31 to 3.55, enables improved acceleration in lower gears while complementing the revised fifth and sixth gear ratios.

The new exterior design, which now features racing stripes on convertible models, is complemented by an all-new interior design brimming with upscale materials such as leather and Alcantara.

2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor

The all-new F-150 SVT Raptor is a purpose-built, high-performance off-road truck versatile enough to take on the most-challenging desert adventures as well as the everyday commute. Ford, the definitive leader in tough trucks, now sets the bar for high-speed off-road performance.

Key to Raptor’s performance are the 12.1 inches of usable travel in the rear suspension and 11.2 in the front as well as FOX Racing Shox, the only internal bypass shocks available on a street truck. SVT changed the whole front suspension – axle, upper A arm, lower A arm, tie rod, half-shaft joints – to withstand the rigors of off-road performance. In addition, a wide suite of technology, including AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, Hill Descent Control, and Integrated Trailer Brake Controller with Trailer Sway Control (optional) adds to customer confidence.

The 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor casts an imposing, unmistakable image anywhere. It is more than seven inches wider than the base F-150 and features distinctive marker lamps that are well-integrated into the front end as opposed to on top of the cab. When lit, Raptor’s imposing stance is immediately recognizable.

Ford ran a race version of the F-150 SVT Raptor in the grueling 41st Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 in November 2008, finishing third in the “Class 8” category. The pickup was entered into the race to test the durability and performance of the production version, to ensure that it is the ultimate OEM off-road performance truck. If the winning bidder does not want to put the truck through the rigorous paces of the Baja 1000, the point is, he or she could.

Visitors to the 38th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., can sign up for an on-site off-road ride in the 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor with a veteran desert-racing driver.

Ford Racing Mustang Cobra Jet

How cool would it be to own a drag racer with a hood signed by the legendary John Force and other drag racing stars? Here’s your chance. The Mustang FR500CJ, known simply as the Cobra Jet, adds drag racing to the line of race-ready Mustang race cars.

For those interested in NHRA sportsmen drag racing, the Cobra Jet offers an affordable vehicle that can compete right off the truck and run in the 10-second range.

Designed by Ford Racing engineers, the Cobra Jet features a 400-hp 5.4-liter supercharged engine with a standard 6-speed manual transmission and a drag race wheel/tire combination. The Cobra Jet is NHRA-legal to 10.00 second ETs and has an NHRA Stock Eliminator legal interior and is approximately 3,300 lbs. The Cobra Jet also showcases a unique trim and appearance design and includes an optional graphics kit to distinguish itself. Offered for auction is a Cobra Jet coupe with the 6-speed manual transmission.

<![CDATA[Barrett-Jackon To Auction Geo Metro]]> The Barrett-Jackson auctions are typically filled with expensive classic cars and other exotics, so why are they auctioning off a Geo Metro of all things?

The one-off 1989 "Zonker" 2-door Geo Metro was apparently a personal project car for ex-GM Design VP, Chuck Jordan. Created as a styling exercise and painted in p***y magnet yellow, this hot little number will be auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson auction on January 13th along with the rest of the GM Heritage Center cars. We'll likely pass up the ZR1 rolling chassis for this little number.
(Hat Tip To Matthew!)
