The
SR 392 roadster, built by Quality Metalcraft's Michael Chetcuti and Chrysler's Mark Allen and Ralph Gilles, will be auctioned off in August at the the Russo & Steele car auction during the Monterey Historics. In case you've forgotten, the SR 392 concept made its debut in the Chrysler display at last year's SEMA show and it's named after the
392 6.4-liter Hemi crate engine under the hood. Since then, it's traveled the country, winning show awards left and right. We only hope it finds an owner who treats this Hemi-powered hot rod right. Full press release after the jump.

world's most expensive car
How much would you pay for the car of your dreams? Well, the official record for the highest price anyone ever paid for any car anywhere was just recently set when a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT short-wheelbase California got hammered down at auction for €7,040,000. Converted to 'merican dollars, that's about $10,976,000. That is
a lot of money, there's no need for us to add any fancy exaggerative adjectives here.

2007 shelby gt-h
As you'll remember, Ford teamed with Hertz to create the
Shelby GT-H weekend racer way back in 2006. And like all rental cars, they're going on sale. If you missed the
first Shelby GT-H auction, you saved yourself approximately $200K by purchasing one of the
Shelby GT-H convertibles for the relatively low price of $55K. Now we have word that approximately 75 to 100 of the limited edition Hertz Shelby GT-H Mustangs will be going on the block at the Kruse's 17th Annual Auburn Spring Motorfair at the end of May for what we suspect will be a slightly lower price (though not as cheap as
stealing one). Full details below the jump.

Since
helping our Czech friend BobAsh get a Malaise Corvette from California to his homeland was so easy, I agreed to keep an eye open for a nice Crown Victoria Police Interceptor for him. After all, roaring through the streets of Prague in a genuine California cop car would be almost as much fun as roaring through the streets of San Francisco in a genuine Tatra 603. Last weekend I stopped by the auction yard at which I bought
my Crown Vic a few years back, and found that the inventory included quite a few early 70s Ford Thunderbirds. In fact, the inventory was
almost entirely 1970 and 1971 T-Birds. Make the jump for more photos and the rest of the story.

Juan Carlos "Chupeta" Ramírez Abadía is a bad man. Arrested last year for crimes including
drug trafficking and money laundering, it's estimated that prior to being caught he was worth somewhere in the region of $1.8 billion. Now, in order to recoup some of the cost of
making people like this rich the war on drugs the Brazilian government is putting Abadía's belongings up for auction, including this mystery SUV.

Barrett-Jackson will be auctioning off eight vehicles from
The Sopranos March 26 through March 30 in West Palm Beach, Fla. These are the same cars that Tony and his gang of mobsters regularly did their dirty deeds. The highlighted car is Tony Soprano's 2003 Cadillac Escalade that was driven in the final three seasons of the series. It has only 11,000 miles and the driver-side seat is likely well-broken in. Check out the rest of the cars after the jump.

Trolling through the "Other makes" section of eBay motors I stumbled on this... thing, in all its glory(?), the Zap Xebra. First of all, Xebra? I'm wondering if the marketeers thought replacing a 'Z' with an 'X' would make it hip and/or extreme — because it didn't. The third-eye headlight is hipper than the "X," but that's not saying much. Now, I'm a chassis engineer, so the implications of a vehicle with a single, load-bearing front wheel incite a mathgasm that indicates this is not a good idea. But hey, it's electric, so it has to be good, right? You can go up to 25 miles at a smashing 40 mph, so why not? (hint: lots of reasons, including bodily harm) [

fistful of dollars
The record for car sold at auction was set earlier this year at the Barrett-Jackson auction out in Scottsdale for a
1966 Shelby Cobra 427 "Super Snake." That car was Carroll Shelby's personal vehicle, demanding top dollar and getting it, with the winning bid hitting $5.5 million. Did we call that the record? Oh wait, that was the
old record. The
new record? That was apparently set over the weekend at Sotheby's where some anonymous Swiss businessman paid $9.275 million for the 1962 Ferrari 330 TRI/LM Spyder, chassis number 0808. It's the only 4-liter Testa Rossa built, it also is the last Testa Rossa and the last front-engined sports racing car built by Ferrari. Oh yeah, and this happens to be the same chassis that won the Le Mans in 1962. Ok, so it's got a pedigree, we'll give them that — but are the seats shimmering with Carroll Shelby's butt sweat? Didn't think so. [
Hat tip to Juan!]

ebays of thunder
In 1994, there was a girl. She was coveted by numerous boys at the
fortnightly college paper. She was aloof, engaging, pretty and goofy with a sadistic streak that'd skin you crosswise if you tried her patience hard enough. She had precisely
no idea how hot she actually was. In 1994, there was a chair. It was covered in a strange, sickly '70s green monochrome tweed that bordered on burlap covering the padding on a white fiberglass shell. It had wheels. The girl tended to sit in this chair. My friend Matt and I would —
sans warning — grab said chair and hurtle her across the newspaper office yelling "
DAYS OF THUNDER!" I also tended to crash her into walls, which she later attributed to my own sexual frustration at her not putting out. In the meantime, Tom had a baby with Katie Holmes. Christ.
