Artega GT Nearing Production, Hundreds Cheer

It's been nearly a year since a promising little coupe rolled into the Geneva show floodlights. Back then, the Henrik Fisker-designed Artega GT was just a rolling chassis with Porsche cues atop, accompanied by promises of 300-horsepower VW engines, light weight and a fair asking price. We saw it again in Frankfurt, where its builders said it was on track for a 2008 release. Of course, by production we mean only 500 will be built per year at around a $100,000 a pop (€75,000). For that you get an aluminum space-frame chassis and carbon-fiber reinforced body, which, plus its 3.6-liter V6 (with six-speed DSG automanual), adds up to only 2,425 pounds. Artega GT Coming in 2008

It looks like a lost cousin of the Porsche Cayman, though it's powered by a Volkswagen V6. It's the Artega GT, a star of the Geneva auto show this past March. Word is it's due for market release. The Artega was designed by Henrik Fisker, who penned the Aston Martin DB9 and in 2005 formed a company that rebodies BMW 6-Series and Mercedes SL models as super-high-end luxury cars under the Fisker marque. Now, German magazine Automobilwoche reports sales of the Artega GT, by German auto supplier Paragon, will commence in summer of 2008. Weighing under 2500 pounds and powered by VW's 3.6-liter FSI V6, the cars will get from zero to 60 in around five seconds. The first production run will of 500 units, each selling for 75,000 Euro, or around $103,000. [Automobilwoche via World Car Fans]
