Turns out Honda neglected to cover all its bases: The new engine reportedly passes emissions when equipped with a manual transmission but not when an automatic is bolted up. Acura wisely decided the U.S. business case for a diesel TSX sans slushbox was problematic, resulting in the temporary cancellation of the program. Will we ever see it? Ward's reports a source simply saying "The (diesel in the) Acura has been canceled.” [Ward's via Temple of VTEC]

<![CDATA[ PCH, Suspension Of Ferrari Disbelief Edition: Mustrrari or Integrrari? ]]> Welcome to Project Car Hell, where you choose your eternity by selecting the project that's the coolest... and the most hellish! Yesterday, we were not quite shocked to see the backyard-turbo'd VW GTI obliterate the rod-knockitty Toyota FX16 by a 76:24 margin in the Choose Your Eternity poll. Today we're going to consider the Fauxrrari, and- just to make it more interesting- we're not considering Fiero-based cars. That's right, no Fierraris!

You've got your Fauxrraris based on Fieros, or Corvettes, or 280Zs, or even Mitsubishi Eclipses. But say you want the reliability and VTEC power of a Honda product in your Fauxrrari? Sure, sure, it's front-wheel drive, and maybe that makes a Ferronda even more of an abomination in the eyes of Ferrari purists, but horrifying the purists to the point where they have to start dumping extra anisetta shots in their espresso just to maintain the will to live… well, that's why we're here, isn't it? Of course it is, and that's just one of many excellent reasons for you to purchase this 1994 Acura Integra with 'Ferrari F430 conversion' (go here if the ad disappears), which sports a totally reasonable asking price of a mere $2,500. The seller says "everything on car is perfect," but then his or her ironclad sense of honesty compels the following semi-disturbing qualification: "its stalling MILDLY on 2345 gear and when on 60mph wont let me go higher its not tranny cuz wen in neutral i press gas and it struggles so it might be senors or m.a.p sensor which online is 70$." You see? The stalling is mild; get a new MAP sensor and it's good to go! Of course, you'll need to jack up the horsepower to Ferrari standards, so that you'll be able to torque steer your way into the nearest ditch justify that fine, fine pure Bondo bodywork, which means adding turbocharging and intercooling until the combustion chambers are hotter than the surface of the sun.

You could definitely have some fun in an Integrrari, since it would actually be pretty quick and all, but the Fierrari guys will point to your front-wheel burnouts and laugh and you can't have that! If you're going to spend the staggering sum of several thousand bucks on a Fauxrrari, it's got to be rear-wheel-drive, right? What you're looking for, my budget-minded supercar-seeking friend, is a genuine Mustrrari, built on Ford's protean Fox platform. When you've got a Fox, every junkyard in North America will seem like a comprehensively stocked superstore to you, and you want cheap aftermarket performance parts? Whooo-EEEE! You can turn a Fox into a 200 MPH deathtrap performance machine for nickels and dimes, my friend, nickels… and… dimes! "But did anyone ever make a Fox Ford Ferrari kit?" you might be asking, and it turns out the answer to that question is definitely a big 10-4, with this yellow Mustrrari (go here if the ad disappears) as the proof. We don't know the year of the chassis (in fact, it might not even be a Fox, though that's the way to bet), and we don't know the engine size, transmission type, nor anything else of any value to potential buyers, since the seller doesn't wish to divulge that sensitive information in the Craigslist ad. All we know is that "someone just needs to go over the body again, fix the engine, and 'freshen' everything up." How hard could it be?

<![CDATA[ Honda CEO: Acura Will Get V8 Engine ]]> Speaking to Automotive News, Honda Motor Co. CEO Takeo Fukui confirmed the company is planning to add a V8 engine to the Acura line, presumably to bolster its flagship Acura RL. Fukui confirmed concerns expressed by enthusiasts and the motoring press, stating "I don't think that the Acura RL 3.7-liter is sufficient. We can't compete with other premium brands." In Honda's best engineering tradition, Fukui says the new V8 will be completely different from current conventional offerings and provide excellent fuel efficiency, though he declined to elaborate. With the 2010 NSX sporting a new V10 and this news of a V8 coming for the RL (and possibly being offered in the NSX as well), Acura should finally have an engine lineup allowing it to compete with other luxury brands — now about that styling...

<![CDATA[ Acura Boasts New NSX Will Kick GT-R's Launch-Controlled Ass ]]> The new Acura NSX has been in development for some time now, having been spotted testing on the Nürburgring numerous times, but nobody knew if all that screaming V10 power would be enough to outperform the Nissan GT-R. Now, Honda Executive Vice President Koichi Kondo, has stated that Mothra the new NSX, though more expensive than Godzilla, will indeed have better performance. Kondo also expects only 1000 units will be sold in the US per year. But doesn't that make it more of a competitor for higher-end machinery?

Those performance claims probably don't account for the upcoming Nissan GT-R Spec V, which may be a bit more hardcore that the NSX, but will likely be closer in price point and exclusivity than a standard GT-R. Then you've got to figure King Kong, the Corvette ZR1, into the mix too. Of course, we're not really sure exactly which aspect of performance Honda is bragging about, but if they start making claims about Nürburgring lap times, we're sure Porsche will complain argue that they're lying. Though if Honda is talking about acceleration figures, they probably don't need to worry about it, since GT-R owners apparently can't use launch control without their car losing all hope of manufacturer-paid product support. <![CDATA[ Acura NSX-R To Come Statestide Causing Fanboys To Swoon For Spoon ]]> Can't wait for the V10-powered 2010 Acura NSX? Good news, friend, as Japanese tuner Spoon is planning to convert left-hand-drive previous-generation Acura NSX's into fire-breathing Acura NSX-Rs and ship them to the US. The bespoke NSX-R will first be going on a crash diet: Body panels get replaced by carbon fiber, thinner rear glass is installed, lightweight wheels are mounted, the spare is replaced with a can of goop, sound deadening gets nixed and so on. Then comes the fun.

After the flotsam is stripped, the upgrades begin including a full underbody aero tray, monstrous sway bars, a rear diffuser and more speed by way of a remapped ECU and a shorter final drive. With a curb weight of just 2800 lbs, this rejiggered NSX will be a terror on the street. We'd be mighty amused if Spoon's version of the old, V6-powered NSX could go toe-to-toe with the newly-designed, V10-powered 2010 NSX. High power, meet light weight. [JPCNews via AutoFiends]

<![CDATA[ 2009 Acura TL, Revealed: SH-AWD Is The New Type-S ]]> You'll be reading the boss-man's official review of the new 2009 Acura TL and the Type-S-replacing 2009 Acura TL SH-AWD later this week. But, since everyone else is doing it, here's our drop of embargoed details. For starters, mock the big buck-toothed front end if you will — frankly, we've already beat that horse to its second death, so we're going to spend our time checking out the back end with its centerline action, looking like Acura used their "good" design team on the rear. In addition to the new exterior, the interior has become more cockpit-like, utilizing a design direction seemingly straight from the Accord. That's not a bad thing. The real story's under the hood, as the base TL is getting a horsepower bump thanks to the 3.5-liter V6, bringing the four-door up to 285 HP. Reach up to the top-shelf SH-AWD TL and you'll get a beefier 305 HP 3.7-liter V6. Although both variants come mated to a five-speed auto tranny, we're told a manual 'box should be expected for the next model year. But you'll want to keep the hood up on the SH-AWD for a moment to admire Acura's picture-frame-perfect 3.7-liter engine cover. Perhaps Acura is making a statement about their powerplant designs? Hit the jump for the full press release.

All-New 2009 TL Redefines Performance with the Most Powerful Engine in Acura History and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™

With dramatic new styling, precise handling and a host of advanced technology and safety features, the fourth-generation TL is Acura's performance leader TORRANCE, Calif. - Since inception, the Acura TL performance luxury sedan has set lofty standards for styling, performance, comfort and technology. Available for 2009 in two distinctly different models, TL and TL SH-AWD®, the all-new fourth-generation Acura TL dramatically expands the model's capabilities and appeal with evocative style, a choice of two VTEC® powertrains (including a new 305-horsepower V-6) and the TL's first-ever application of Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®).
Boasting larger dimensions, optimized suspension, a new Sequential SportShift transmission, plus an available Technology Package featuring a comprehensive array of navigation and communication aids, the 2009 TL offers more appeal than ever before. Along with an available Acura/ELS Surround® premium 10-speaker surround sound system and an all-new AcuraLink® weather feature, the new TL is by far the most technologically advanced sedan in Acura's history.
The combination of dramatic new styling, exhilarating performance and an extensive array of electronics (including AcuraLink® real-time traffic and AcuraLink® weather with Doppler-style radar mapping) ensures the 2009 Acura TL will appeal to a sophisticated, technology-savvy audience.

Powertrain
A choice of two different all-aluminum VTEC® engines enables the new 2009 TL to satisfy a wide range of customers. Standard is a 3.5-liter V-6 producing 280 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque that sends power to the front wheels through Acura's sophisticated Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel- mounted paddle shifters and Grade Logic Control. Though powerful, the new engine is also fuel efficient, with projected EPA fuel economy ratings* of 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. The engine is targeted to meet California's tough CARB LEV II ULEV emissions certification standards, thanks to features including a Drive-by-Wire™ throttle system, Computer-Controlled Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) and Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC®) for the intake valves.
Serious performance-sedan devotees will choose the TL SH-AWD® to make winding roads their own. Its all-new 3.7-liter V-6 engine produces 305 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque courtesy of greater displacement and additional high-performance features like Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC®) on both the intake and exhaust valves, and a special high-flow dual exhaust system. With projected EPA fuel economy ratings* of 17 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, the 3.7L is also targeted to meet California's stringent CARB LEV II ULEV emissions certification. The pièce de résistance on the TL SH-AWD® is the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ system, now available on the TL for the first time.
During spirited cornering, SH-AWD® seamlessly distributes more torque to the outside rear wheel to create a "yaw moment" to help the TL turn in more quickly and precisely - while also continuously apportioning drivetrain torque front to rear and left to right. The result is a remarkably balanced and precise all-wheel-drive performance sedan that excels year-round, not just during inclement weather.
Acura TL's performance achievements extend to durability, reliability and refinement as well. Both engines feature electronically controlled engine mounts to reduce engine noise, vibration and harshness (NVH); quiet and efficient Electric Power Steering (EPS) and maintenance-free serpentine accessory belt also boost operating refinement. A standard Maintenance Minder™ system and up to a 100,000-mile tune-up interval offer further time and cost savings for the TL owner.
The standard transmission on the 2009 TL and TL SH-AWD® is a Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic featuring F1®-style steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters and Grade Logic Control. Merging the convenience of an automatic with the enjoyment of SportShift manual gear selection, the transmission also features an overdriven top gear for maximum fuel efficiency on the highway. In fact, the Acura transmission has the widest gear-ratio spread of any 5-speed transmission in its class, providing strong acceleration in lower gears and relaxed, fuel-efficient highway cruising.

Body/Chassis
Major improvements in structural engineering for the unit-body further define the 2009 TL. The list of substantial changes begins with the relocation of frame rails inside (rather than underneath) the vehicle's floor pan, resulting in a nearly flat body underside. Benefits of this design include improved crash safety, a significant reduction in interior noise levels, and reduced aerodynamic drag that helps enhance fuel economy. Another significant improvement is the increased use of high-strength steel, which simultaneously improves the unit-body's overall strength while helping to reduce weight. For additional weight savings, aluminum is used for the hood, the front suspension subframe and rear suspension knuckles.
Ride quality and passenger comfort benefit from the 2009 TL's larger exterior dimensions. Featuring 6.0 inches greater exterior length, 1.8 inches more overall width and Ride quality and passenger comfort benefit from the 2009 TL's larger exterior dimensions. Featuring 6.0 inches greater exterior length, 1.8 inches more overall width and a modest 0.5-inch increase in overall height, the TL is noticeably larger than its predecessor.
The larger body size directly contributes to greater interior roominess; it also allows a 1.4-inch longer wheelbase to improve ride quality and a significantly wider track (1.1 inches wider in front, 1.8 inches wider in the rear) helps generate even more tenacious cornering power. The TL employs a double-wishbone independent front suspension and a multi-link independent system in back.
Further improving ride quality and road-holding are new dual-stage "blow off" style hydraulic suspension dampers, new hydro-compliant bushings (used to mount the transmission and key suspension components) and a new "smart" engine mount design. On the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) model, more performance-minded suspension and brake tuning, larger wheels/tires, racing-inspired front brake cooling ducts, and specially-tuned Electric Power Steering (EPS) take the enthusiast's driving experience to an even higher level.

Exterior/Interior
An evocative and powerful exterior body design dramatically advances the TL's image as a performance luxury sedan. Designed by Acura in Southern California, the TL utilizes an array of styling techniques to express motion - and emotion - even when the car is at rest. Featuring Acura's new signature front grille, body sides defined by strong character lines, sweeping C-pillars and new LED taillights, the 2009 TL is simultaneously Acura and yet wholly unique. Plentiful use of luxury and performance features add visual appeal while adding to the TL's vigorous statement - including bright HID projector-beam front headlights, pronounced wheel arches, a standard power moonroof and genuine stainless-steel body trim.
Wheels and tires are as expressive as the exterior styling. Standard on the 2009 TL are 17-inch aluminum wheels with P245/50R17 all-season Bridgestone Turanza or available Michelin Pilot tires for confident year-round performance. The TL SH-AWD® comes with 18-inch aluminum wheels with lower-profile P245/45R18 Michelin Pilot tires for more agile handling. Finally, the TL SH-AWD® offers available 19-inch aluminum wheels with aggressive P245/40ZR19 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 summer tires for the ultimate TL performance experience.
In keeping with its mission as a driver's car, the 2009 TL interior features a new "dual personal" layout that provides both the driver and front passenger with their own personal space. Thanks to its larger exterior dimensions, the new TL has 1.3 inches more rear legroom and 0.5-inch of added rear shoulder room compared to the previous generation TL.
Acura's commitment to luxury and technology becomes apparent from the first moment the driver's door is opened. With sweeping shapes, generous use of premium materials and passionate attention to detail, the TL rewards the discriminating eye. The design and execution of the interior is an artful combination of leather surfaces, accented by metallic and wood-pattern trim. An impressive array of premium standard features includes a power moonroof, dual-zone adaptive climate control, 10-way adjustable (8-way power seat with 2-way power lumbar support) driver seat, 8-way adjustable power front passenger seat, and steering-wheel-mounted F1®-style paddle shifters for the Sequential SportShift automatic transmission. An 8-speaker, 276-watt audio system that includes a 6-disc CD changer, AM/FM radio, XM® Satellite Radio, Bluetooth® Audio, USB port and AUX jack connectivity, and HandsFreeLink® wireless telephone interface are standard.
Available on both the TL and TL SH-AWD® is a Technology Package that includes the most comprehensive array of advanced electronic features ever offered by Acura. The Technology Package includes the Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™, AcuraLink® real-time traffic, AcuraLink® weather with Doppler-style radar mapping, an Acura/ELS Surround® premium audio system and Keyless Access System with pushbutton ignition. The included Navigation System features a new 8-inch full VGA high-resolution color display for improved visibility.
Audiophiles with appreciate the new Acura/ELS Surround® 10-speaker, 440-watt premium sound system with DVD-Audio, CD, DTS™, AM/FM radio, XM® Satellite Radio and 2,500-song** hard disk drive (HDD) media storage. An intuitive interface dial as well as sophisticated voice recognition capability simplifies control of this impressive technology. Premium Milano leather seating surfaces included in the Technology Package further enhances comfort and visual appeal.
Safety
Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) represents a major advance in structural engineering for the 2009 TL. In simple terms, ACE™ better dissipates crash energy in a severe frontal collision through the use of dedicated load-bearing frame structures that efficiently distribute crash energy through the body structure—while also helping to preserve the integrity of the passenger compartment. Acura first introduced ACE™ to the Acura line for the 2005 model year and its inclusion in the 2009 TL means that every vehicle in the Acura model range now has this advanced safety engineering.
Six airbags and a new Active Head Restraint System for the driver and front passenger headrests top the long list of passive safety features built into the new TL. The airbag array includes dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags, new dual-chamber front seat side airbags with front passenger seat Occupant Position Detection System, along with side-curtain airbags for all outboard seating positions. Additional passive-safety features include 3-point seatbelts and head restraints for all seating positions, driver and front passenger seatbelt load-limiters with an automatic tensioning system and a Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) system that permits quick, secure attachment of up to two child seats in the rear seating area.
The new TL includes sophisticated active safety features including powerful 4-wheel disc brakes (with ABS, EBD and Brake Assist), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), all-season tires and an available SH-AWD® system. Adding to the list of standard exterior safety features are daytime running lights (DRL) along with 2.5-mph front and rear bumpers.
The 2009 Acura TL is designed to meet the latest crash-safety regulations, including the new FMVSS214 side crash standards (which the TL meets three years early) and the new FMVSS301 rear crash standards. Internal testing indicates that the 2009 TL should achieve the highest ratings in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)*** and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests.
The 2009 Acura TL is assembled in Marysville, Ohio and is covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and a 6-year/70,000 mile powertrain limited warranty. Additional benefits of ownership include Acura Total Luxury Care (TLC), which provides free 24-hour roadside assistance, concierge service and trip routing.

<![CDATA[ 2009 Acura TL Interior Gets Up-Close And Personal ]]> We've seen plenty of the 2009 Acura TL's jagged exterior, but not much of what appears to be a newly-swankified interior until now. Though we're assuming from the language on some of the buttons that this isn't a US-spec model, the basic layout you see here will likely be much the same as what you'll find in stateside Acura showrooms this fall. If you're not excited by the slightly different take on the same black-and-beige (with silver trim!) theme that's been on pretty much every car for the past decade, Honda Acura has included a big shiny red start button to give your monotonous white-collar life a tiny whiff of excitement. <![CDATA[ Edmunds Disrobes New Acura NSX ]]> 2010-Acura-NSX-Render.jpgEdmunds' JDM friends at Auto Holiday Magazine have put together some rendered speculation of the new Acura NSX using the spy photos of the 2010 supercar spotted on the Nürburgring in Art Nouveau leopard print. If these sans-camouflage shots are spot on, the new NSX will look — according to Edmunds — "neat but not gorgeous...following the 2007 Detroit Auto Show concept car's lines closer than first thought." Of course it would.

Maybe it looks like that because the renderings appear to come straight from an artist using the Detroit Auto Show concept as a cheat sheet. But, Edmunds' buddies do have some method to the madness. They claim Honda has employed their recent experiences with F1 to create a design generating maximum downforce and straight-line stability. That's why they claim the 2010 Acura NSX was able to drop a lap time of 7 minutes, 37 seconds on its first attempt around the Nürburgring — and will more than likely give the GT-R a run for the money shot on the sub-7:30 time.

How're they going to do that? Well, Edmunds Inside Line also claims the new NSX will weigh in at around 3,256 pounds. That's over 500 pounds lighter than the GT-R. Plus, the rear section of the coupe apparently acts like one big rear wing. Also, there's that 5.5-liter V10 expected to run at over 600 HP and 433 lb-ft of torque. And of course we'd also heard it's expected to get cylinder deactivation — you know, to help with fuel economy and stuff.

Jalopnik Snap Judgment: There's no reason to believe the new NSX won't be faster than the GT-R and the 2009 Corvette ZR1 considering the blistering fast numbers it's already posting. However, we're really truly hoping they do something to those horizontal slits on the front fascia. If not, we're hoping Acura will give us a check box for the leopard-print camouflage.

<![CDATA[ 2009 Acura TL Caught In Natural Habitat, The Golf Course ]]> We've already seen the big-nosed front end reveal of the 2009 Acura TL, but Flickr user buckeye01 managed to snag a beautiful close-up set of pics while out at the links. We finally get an up-close look at the rear of the new TL and also a peek inside. Unfortunately, all we see in the cabin is some shapely dash elements, and perforated leather seats. At the back we see a pair of dual-quad exhaust tips, huuuuuge bumper mounted reflectors, tasteful tail lights and a nice use of chrome. Does that make this the 2009 Acura TL Type-S?

We also see what we're assuming are smaller, optional five spokes which weren't in the officially released image. What we can also see here is the highly controversial front fender bulge seems a heck of a lot less pronounced when in in the light of day. Now if only that weird grille would look different with the sun shining down. (Hat tip to Darius)

<![CDATA[ 2009 Acura TL Type-S Shows Us All Four Pipes In Tacoma ]]> We've already had a good first look at the 2009 Acura TL so when we got a tip from Exit133 that they had a long-range photo of the new TL being used for a commercial in Tacoma we weren't hopeful there would be much news. Alas, unlike the rear end of 2009 TL we've already spotted around town a few times, you can make out quad-pipes, a clear sign this is almost certainly the 2009 Acura TL Type-S. Another good sign is the fact that there are clearly production staff running to move the car. So what should we expect from the new 2009 Acura TL and 2009 Acura TL Type-S?

According to our sources, here's what you can expect:

The much more exciting news lies in the next generation TL Type-S. Under the hood you will find the 3.7-liter V6 from the MDX CUV. That's an engine already rated at 300 HP in the MDX and our industry sources tell us to expect this motor to be good for around 330 HP in the TL's hot rod version. That said, we've also heard whispers that a number in the 340-350 HP range is not totally out of the realm of possibility.

If those horsepower numbers get your blood flowing, remember that power will also be coursing through Acura's torque-vectoring, SH-AWD system on the Type-S. That leads us to hope those rumors about a number closer to 350 HP turn out to be true.

The last bit of good news on the Type-S is the slush box. A 6 speed, manumatic DSG gearbox will be standard equipment on this faster-than-average sports sedan. Expect to be able to shift the gears through steering wheel-mounted, flappy-paddle shifters, or with the "stick" itself via a "+/-" gate.

Watch for the regular 2009 TL to go on sale during the summer or fall of 2008 and we expect the meaner S-Type following 6-12 months later.

Mmm, meaty. [Exit133]

<![CDATA[ Acura NSX V10 May Get Cylinder Deactivation, Acura RL May Get V10 ]]> According to 7Tune, Honda is concerned about their environmental image with the new 5.5-liter V10 they plan on dropping between the rails of the new 2010 Acura NSX. We're now told Honda plans to employ "Variable Cylinder Management" to deactivate an entire bank of cylinders in the V10 in cruising situations to greatly improve fuel economy. That's all well and good, but what do the prospective power numbers look like on this new engine? And what of other rumors for the big V10?

The speculation on power is unconfirmed at this point, but sources are placing the figures at around 590 HP and 430 lb-ft of torque. Considering the original got up to about 290 HP and 240 lb-ft of twist, this represents one hell of an upgrade. Speaking of upgrades, the other rumor we're hearing points to the possibility of some form of special 2009 Acura RL fitted with the same NSX V10. Obviously such a car would bend our fragile little minds to the breaking point and cause droplets of sweat-like dew to form on every other performance sedan's hood. Although this'll certainly help potential RL buyers interested in performance, unless it comes to market with a less-toothy grille, it won't do much for those looking for something better to look at. We've also briefly seen the car making its way around the Nürburgring's Nordschleife. Now, however, we're going to sit back and soak in that V10 symphony thanks to a new video providing over three minutes of footage straight from the 'ring. Our assumption is Honda wasn't content with that 7:37 'ring run after hearing all the hubbub about the 2009 Corvette ZR1 making a run in 7:26.4. So they've gone back out — testing and tweaking away. We're not saying it's a sauna or anything, but we think maybe the new TL should ditch some of that camouflage to cool down. Although the guys who spotted it didn't need that to identify the new Acura, given the cars Ohio plates indicating it makes it's home at Honda's plant in Marysville, OH. Of course, we've seen the new 2009 TL several times before, so the only big mystery is how big the wide-toothed smile will be. Well, that and the powertrain options. [AutomotiveTraveler]

<![CDATA[ 2010 Acura NSX Reportedly Already Running 7:37 at Nurburgring ]]> Yes the recently seen 2010 Acura NSX is on the Nurburgring apparently attempting to fulfill a mandate from Honda CEO Takeo Fukai to beat the Nissan GT-R's best time of 7:29. According to sources on-site, the new front-engined embodiment of the NSX has been unofficially clocked running a scorching 7m 37s, nipping at the heels of Godzilla. Of course, these numbers mean nothing until we get official times, but if this car is already running quick in prototype form, you have to wonder what it will do when it's ready for the public.

<![CDATA[ 2010 Acura NSX Caught On 'Ring Trying To Beat GT-R 7:29 Lap Time ]]>

We caught our first glimpse of Honda's Acura NSX replacement earlier in the week, and now, adding to our 2009 Porsche 911 'Ring footage from earlier, the guys at Bridge To Gantry have snapped these new shots. They think there's a high-revving V10 under the hood, but whatever it is it's gonna be fast. How do we know this? Because Honda CEO Takeo Fukai has demanded that the development team make the NSX faster than both the Nissan GT-R and the Lexus LF-A. That would mean a Nurburgring lap time better than the GT-R's 7:29, though the LF-A may be even faster than that. Of course, the NSX having the 5.5-liter V10's 550 HP connected to Honda's Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive has to help.

<![CDATA[ 2010 Acura NSX Is Real After All ]]> Even though we thought the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept from the 2007 Detroit Auto Show was a bit of a stinker when it came to telegraphing the 2010 Acura NSX, it looks like the shape has finally evolved into the real deal. That's right, here is the first look we've gotten at the front-engined successor to the mid-engined supercar. Clad in heavy camo, the scion of the NSX is rumored to be sporting a V10 under that long bonnet, and we wouldn't be surprised to hear of some magical transmission trickery either. We also wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a fast one and released it as a 2009 model, considering how far along this one seems. But all of this has us a bit... confused.

The original NSX was considered the everyday supercar — something you could live with, service, and easily get parts for. Hell, half the engine was straight out of a Honda Accord. With a fancy new engine, and most likely all kinds of crazy tech gizmos, will the new NSX just be an also-ran in a wide field of $100k+ sporting coupes? Guess we'll find out. But we don't want to be Negative Nancys this early in the morning — so yay new NSX! Check out the stacked quad tailpipes, fancy aluminum suspension and shiny LED tail lamps. But let's see what the KGP spy shooters have to say about it:

It appears that Acura has finally settled on a direction for the next-
generation NSX, as evidenced by this prototype that has popped up on
the public roads surrounding the Nürburgring.

Rumors of design dissent have plagued the new NSX program since Acura's
Advanced Sports Car Concept debuted to a lukewarm reception at
Detroit's North American International Auto Show in January 2007. The
resulting uncertainty reportedly delayed the introduction of the
production NSX at last fall's Tokyo Motor Show, while Acura decided on
a true design direction for the supercar. Now that things have
apparently sorted themselves out, we can break down the design
decisions that Acura has made.

It appears that the general layout of Acura's Advanced Sports Car
Concept has survived, but changes have been made to increase the level
of aggresion for the NSX. The prototype's nose shows marked changes
over the concept, with two large, wide-set intakes flanking an even
larger central grille. The result is a less pretty, but more
aggressive face. The concept's straight slit-like headlights have
been ditched in favor of more expressive lights that have an angular,
notchy quality to their shape.

The general shape of the NSX's profile looks very similar to the
concept, although a taller, more production-feasible greenhouse
appears to be in play on the test vehicle. The side sculpting has
also been reworked with the prototype's convex rocker panels jutting
outward, instead of the concept's lower rockers, which tucked
gracefully under the car. Once again, the end result is a more
muscled look for the production model.

The production NSX retains the concept's dual stacked exhaust set-up,
but rest of the rear bumper is completely different, with reconfigured
air ducts now stretching all the way across the back. The aesthetic
result is a more squat, athletic stance for the production NSX. The
prototype's flowing, fastback rear deck also shows significant changes
over the concept's more svelte look. The rear hatch now kicks up
between the tail-lights, which gives the prototype a more broad-
shouldered look to match the likes of the Nissan GT-R. New tail-
lights complete the package, although it's hard to tell if they will
stretch all the way across the tail, or if they'll be confined to the
outer flanks.

<![CDATA[ 2009 Acura TL, Redux ]]> With its pronounced grille and sharp trunk line, the 2009 Acura TL is like Waldo in a Caravaggio painting, easy to spot. We've parsed the rumors regarding the new TL and even seen some pics of the 2009 Acura TL last night. Thanks to Joe A., we now have more photos of a pair of what could only be TL's followed by a black 5-door Civic mule also taped off.

As with the photos snapped earlier today, we've got the dual-pipe exhaust as opposed to the quad-pipe from earlier. Yesterday we asked you to trek out to Colorado to grab some more photos, but apparently they were hiding somewhere else (we can't tell you where and we can't tell you why). <![CDATA[ 2009 Acura TL ]]> 2009 Acura TLYesterday we gave you a run-down on the details and rumors we'd recently heard on the 2009 Acura TL. Today we've got confirmation on some of those rumors. Well, at least the part about what to expect from the new TL's design. Our Honda-loving buddies at the Temple of VTec have snagged themselves some spy photos of the new TL. While still very much Glad-bagged and Hefty Cinch-sacked on the front end, the rear's exhibiting only a bit of body-color-matching tape. The two shots tell us our source was spot on on everything from the dip in the rear trunk lid to...

2009 Acura TL 2...the strong centerline on the front of the hood. Ooh, and this shot-by-spies car's got what appears to be a dual-pipe exhaust — rather than the quad-pipe we'd seen in earlier shots. Can someone say 2009 Acura TL Type-S? We hope we can. We're hoping one of you industrious readers out there feels like making the trek out to Colorado and catching some shots of the new TL before we see it un-wrapped later this summer. <![CDATA[ 2009 Acura TL: More Details Revealed? ]]> One of the Honda forum fan-boys over at The Temple of VTEC claims to have seen a brand spankin' new 2009 Acura TL — most likely at the April dealer conference where we'd heard the big dealers got a chance to ogle the new four-door in the shiny flesh. While we're not expecting to see the bed sheet slide off the skin of the new mid-size from Honda's luxury brand until sometime closer to Septembet, the forumites are telling us to expect something similar to what we told you back in March, but the level of detail is — well — significantly more detailed. Hit the jump for the full scoop.

TOV user "mri1112" claims he (or she):

"saw the car....3.5 w/280hp and 3.7 w 305hp....no mention of "S" Type at all.....the front and rear of the car in no way resembles the present car or TSX...larger than the present TL and present Accord....it is as drastic to the persent TL as the present TL was to the '03 TL.....20G hard drive on board for personal music recording ...push button start...."
But that's not the only details — there's also the look, which is supposedly very "transformer"-like:
"the only part of the tsx grill is the very top thickpart....slight resemblence...beyond that not similar looking at all....but the front and rear of the 09 TL is very futuristic, almost "transformer" in its look....the car was shown in new orleans april 11th to acura dealer body....end of sept release......rear lights on the '09 TL are a cross between civic 2 dr and camry....bold...tilted a bit down toward center...red lenses top and bottom ...clear back up in the middle but taper extensively around the side almost to the back of the c piller..the car looks sleek from the side yet agressive, angular from front and back...the car has no hatchback look at all.....from the side it is quite sleek looking ...sharp contrast from front and rear views which are very hight tech futuristic looking...the trunk lid has a bit of a dip in the center.....the rear lights and the rear bumper make the back panel of the trunk lid almost the shape of the grill.....5 sided.....topped off by a small lip spoiler on the tech model...the rear spoiler also has a crease in the center of the trunk dip.....the rear tail light form the side tapers greatly and almost reaches up the side to the rear of the c pillar....."
Well, we guess we'll have to wait for September to find out whether the Honda informant over there is right on — but until then, what do you think? [TOV] ]]>

<![CDATA[ PCH, Ten Grand To Glory Edition: Acura NSX or '59 Corvette? ]]> The extremely cheap, extremely sketchy (putatively) NSX-engine-powered Acura Legend obliterated the dime-a-dozen turbo Civic in yesterday's Choose Your Eternity poll, which is about what we expected. So what if we could find not just an NSX engine but an entire car for cheap (well, maybe entire isn't the right word here, but you get the idea)- what then? Well, then we have quite a dilemma when trying to find something to stack up against the Acura, a car that's equally cool, in spittin' distance of the NSX's price range, and hideously expensive when it comes to part obtainment. Perhaps it's an impossible task, but let's see how things sort out in today's Detroit-versus-Japan matchup!

You want an NSX, and so do I. It's safe to say that you wouldn't be reading this series in the first place if you were the sort who doesn't want an NSX (unless your brand of garage masochism requires engines with carburetors... lots and lots of carburetors, in which case you most likely still think the NSX is a good idea, even if you wouldn't drive an EFI car yourself). But damn! they're expensive critters, and nobody seems to want to sell theirs. However, we looked and looked and finally found an NSX for just $10,000! No, really! Take a gander at this '92 Acura NSX and then try to offer us the usual lame excuses about how you can't afford your own Japanese supercar. This car is available at "a fraction of the price," though the price isn't defined, because it needs a little work. Actually, all it really needs is some TLC- like so many Hell Projects- in order to repair the damage from what looks like a half-completed ripoff-and-chopshop adventure. The engine appears to be there, and no doubt more than 50% of the rest of the vehicle's parts are present as well. How hard can it be to find a pair of NSX doors? You'll find out!

Say you admire the engineering of the NSX, but you're more of a fan of classic Detroit machinery. In that case, what you need is an early Corvette... but- holy Barrett-Jackson!- the price of nice 50s Vettes is utter madness! That's why you want to try to find a project car and turn oceans of sweat and rivers of tears into a top-notch concours-qualiity restoration, one that will convince even the most sphincterish Corvette obsesso that you don't deserve to be ground into hamburger for defiling such a sacred machine. You'll have your work cut out for you with this 1959 Chevrolet Corvette, because it's actually a '59 frame with a "thick fiberglass" replica '57 body and a 283 out of a '66 Chevy (no mention of the transmission, which means it's probably a Powerglide). But, hey, the car is only $9,100! Hmm... maybe that idea of a restoration isn't really feasible here, but ya never know, ya know? Just put the correct stuff on the engine, find the right 4-speed, and dive into Itchy Fiberglass Land, and you'll be out cruising your '57/'59 in no time!

<![CDATA[ PCH, Fun With Honda Engines Edition: NSX-Powered Legend or Turbo Civic? ]]> The '58 Lincoln put up a good showing, but in the end the Porsche 928 takes the prize, with 56% of you choosing Polyester-Clad White Powder Distributor over Chain-Smoking Rat Pack Player in Monday's Choose Your Eternity poll. But with a Datsun nearly beating a Peugeot last week, not to mention an Acura winning the 24 Hours of LeMons, we felt the need to turn Japanese for today's challenge. As always, the challenge with finding good candidates for Japanese Project Hell is that damned Japanese build quality and reliability, not to mention the ease of finding parts... but we've managed to find a couple of potentially-fast-yet-nightmarish Hondas to make your tools burn right through your flesh!

We'd sure love to have an NSX, but it's pretty tough to find an example that's really a low-cost-of-admission project, for the same reason it's tough to find cheap project Ferraris. But how about that sweet DOHC NSX V6 engine in a more affordable car? Like, say, this Legend with a '97 NSX engine (go here if the ad disappears), which 500 bucks plus a trip to the bustling desert metropolis of Bullhead City will make your very own nightmare pride and joy. Five hundred little dollars! That's a 290-horse C32B in there, friends... well, it had 290 horsepower when it left Honda's hands; we're guessing a few of the ponies may have fled by now. The transmission is bad, and the condition of the body suggests that the car may have been hooned to oblivion driven enthusiastically prior to the transmission failure, but: cheap! Oh yes, the statement "in rage of tranny going out the windshield with need replaced" seems to indicate that the owner of this car has had enough... but you won't feel that way when it's your punishment dream car!
Thanks, and a half-credit towards a PCH Tipster T-shirt, to EMPM Esq for the tip!

Maybe you're hoping for something a little more sleeper-ish than a Legend, since everyone knows even the stock Legends are fairly quick machines. How about a Civic sedan stuffed with lots and lots of boost? You can probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of turbocharged Civics that look like plain-vanilla commuters, so imagine the fun you'd have smoking the front tires through all the gears in a fourth-gen Civic sedan (and nuking your third transaxle in a week, but you'll deal with that later). Now, the cheapest and easiest way to dive into Blown Civic Hell is to take on someone else's unfinished project, and we've found a real screamin' deal for you: this '90 Civic with turbocharged D15B VTEC engine (go here if the ad disappears) for only $1,500. Normally, we'd say the first thing you'd need to do with such a project is finish the running gear setup, but with this car we need to declare a 27-alarm emergency on the paint job, which appears to be a sort of Yakuza Police black-and-white deal. Once you're done making it look like Grandma's commuter econobox, you can do something about the fuel-delivery system; looks like the current owner installed a turbo kit without upgrading the fuel injectors... and has been driving it that way, which means the engine is getting fed a cutting-torch-lean fuel/air mix every time the turbo takes effect. Don't worry, though, because the seller has only "taken into boost 1 TIME YES IT WILL BOOST" What could go wrong?

<![CDATA[ Acura NSX Ripped To Shreds In Horrific Street Racing Accident, Driver Survives ]]> Proving you don't have to put out Ferrari Enzo bucks to nearly kill yourself by driving like a complete idiot, a man in San Diego completely decimated his Acura NSX (erroneously referred to as a Honda Acura and an Acura Integra in various reports) in what is being reported as a street race with a black Honda Civic with a "Tuned By Reese" sticker on the back. That's the problem with street racing specially customized cars, other than the recklessness, you're an easy target for the police. The NBC affiliate in San Diego quotes one witness as saying "I saw the car in the gutter with a guy sitting it it without any front. He was holding on the the gearshift, and I think he was still in shock and still wanting to shift gears."

The driver is, miraculously, alive, though has suffered from a fractured neck and we're pretty certain he's going to be out a lot of money in lawyer's fees. You can see the airbags deployed, though the steering wheel seems to be a good twenty feet from the car when that happened. (h/t LTDScott and Vintage Racer) [Source: MSNBC, NBC San Diego]

All we know is he's called the Auto Insider and he's always ready to provide the scoop from the other side of Eight Mile.
UPDATE: More details on the 2009 TL are seeing the light of day, including spy photos of the new Acura TL.
Despite having absolutely no idea on exactly what day the 2009 Acura TL will break loose from it's embargoed chains, some details are beginning to leak out in hushed whispers as the unknown date draws ever-closer. Those whispers all seem to be saying the same thing: Expect more power. Yes, with a Tim Allen-like grunt, we're told Acura will give significant bumps in horsepower to the next base model TL as well as to the up-powered Type-S model. Here's what our sources are able to tell us so far:

The regular 2009 TL sedan will inherit the 3.5-liter V6 under the hood of the current TL Type-S. That motor puts out 286 HP now however, we expect this V6 to be tuned up to just over 300 horses when it finds its new home in the 2009 TL's engine compartment. Initially that news has us just plain giddy — however, all that horsepower will be heading torque-spinningly straight to the front wheels. Frankly, that has us a little worried. For now we'll just hold out hope Acura has invented an insanely great torque management system.

<![CDATA[ 2009 Acura TSX, Reviewed ]]> As I said in my TSX-tease at midnight the other night, the four words I'd use to describe the new 2009 Acura TSX, would be "competent yet remarkably boring." But let's be clear, that's not to say the new TSX is bad — it's just, you know, not the best foot forward for the Acura brand. But there's a bit of a problem as the TSX is, and always has been, the entrée to Honda's luxe brand — a means to move buyers from those high-volume Accords to lesser-volumed, but higher profit Acuras.

I had high hopes for this new model — I'd spent a week behind the wheel of a 2006 TSX and found myself pleased enough with the responsiveness, handling and slightly-tweaked engine that I was willing to overlook some of what I perceived to be "issues" with the '06 model. One issue I'd had was the power provided by the 2.4-liter in-line four. Another was the numbness of steering. But, overlook them I did and it was easy to do, as the old TSX had a cabin that while sound-dampened, was not overly so — and it gave you the engine sound that could mask the reality of the car's real power output. Overall it was a fun little four-door that, while not overly memorable, didn't find many haters. So the bar for the new model ain't what you'd call overly high.

2009-Acura-TSX-Grille.jpg
The new TSX not only meets the bar, it exceeds it. Unfortunately, it's the wrong bar. For starters, let's take a look at the new-look of the exterior. For starters, the front of the car gets the new double-plenum grille already found on the new 2009 RL. While some may like the wide-mouthed front, I did not. Same is true for the interior, which blends plastics like a SoCal fruit smoothie shop.

2009-Acura-TSX-Interior-1.jpg
But materials aside, the interior's got some nice qualities. There's the driver's seat, which bolsters you competently in the corners and there's also the Technology Package which includes the Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition and the neat-o AcuraLink Real-time traffic and weather systems that give you dynamic traffic rerouting in your navigation around jams. There's also the Bluetooth hands-free system included as a standard, as well as a really easy-to-use standard USB port that'll do a commendable job of integrating your iPod with the killer Elliot Scheiner-tuned 10-speaker sound system. Also, the big, thick steering wheel felt comfortable and firm in my hands. It also felt numb.

2009-Acura-TSX-Interior-3.jpg
Seriously, the 2009 takes that particular quality to an all new bar-busting high. I felt as distant from the road in the new TSX as I'd felt in the 747 flying into LAX the day before. It's not just the steering that had as little feeling as a college one-night stand, it was also the enhanced sound dampening. While it may help make the '09 TSX quiet as a tomb, it also denies one the sound one would hope for from an actual sports sedan.

2009-Acura-TSX-Interior-2.jpg
But, with some pushing and prodding, the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine of the 2009 Acura TSX was able to provide some pleasant sounds but not the true satisfying engine note you expect from a real sports sedan. Along the twists and turns of the SoCal two-lane state roads, I found myself able to generate the sounds I was looking for out of the little mid-size four-door. Unfortunately, there was precious little room left 'til I hit the redline and that necessary shift up to fourth gear. I'd get a little bit of what I was looking for with each and every turn, but it never seemed enough to truly fill my enjoyment meter.

2009-Acura-TSX-Slow.jpg
But the demographic for the TSX may not be searching for the same thing I was. Acura tells me the four purchase reasons given by buyers are:

1.) A well-made vehicle
2.) A fully-featured vehicle
3.) A reliable vehicle
4.) A reasonable price or deal offered

This contrasts sharply with the top four reasons I normally use to make my purchasing decisions. Those are:

1.) Fun to drive
2.) Fun to drive
3.) Fun to drive
4.) Dependable...in the car's ability to be fun to drive

So maybe the TSX isn't for someone like me. But Acura's hoping it'll be for some more buyers then they'd had in the past few years — with a desired sales target of 40,000 units — 7,000 more than targets for the previous generation. So if what you're looking for is a little bit more than what you can get from the standard fare of mid-sized sedans, you may find yourself looking at the new TSX, but if you do, realize that it's just not a luxury sports sedan. Even an "entry-level" one. What you will find yourself with is an over-priced Accord.

The 2009 TSX may be the entry-level for the Acura brand, but frankly we expect more from the bottom rung of the ladder from any luxe brand given the competition from the likes of BMW, Lexus and Infiniti. Maybe our minds could be changed with a diesel or higher-powered option, however neither is currently available.

<![CDATA[ 2009 Acura TSX ]]> You already saw the official live reveal of the new 2009 TSX, and as I told you earlier, there'd be more coming tonight. The "more" is I've already had the chance to drive the 2009 Acura TSX, but we'll get to that tomorrow at our regularly scheduled noon review time. First, let's take a moment to talk about the whole business of writing an entertaining review about a car. A vehicle on the extremes of terrible and amazing is much easier to write about than reviewing a car sitting smack-dab in the squishy vanilla middle between dull and duller. Given the adjectives available for both ends of the spectrum are so much more appealing, it's no wonder this is the case — think epic, brilliant, orgasmic and their diametric opposites of appalling, disgusting and vomit-inducing. When emotion drives your verbiage it usually means you've driven either an amazing car or a complete pile of horse excrement. When it's none of the above, it's hard to get the same level of excitingly quotable quotes. Which brings me to the subject at hand — the 2009 Acura TSX.

If I were to use four words to describe the new TSX they'd be:

competent yet remarkably boring
But what should one expect from a car given alternately the titles of "entry-level sports sedan" and "entry-level luxury sedan" by the PR team at Acura. To me that seems a lot like this car is what happens when those two worlds collide — you get more "entry level" than you do "luxury or "sports sedan." But you'll have to wait until noon tomorrow to get the full driving impression from my weekday spent in sunny California behind the wheel of a new manny-tranny'ed TSX for 2009. ]]>

<![CDATA[ 2009 Acura TSX, Officially Revealed! ]]> We first showed you the teaser shot a few weeks back, then the press release accidentally went live a short time later. But now here it is in the flesh for all you Honda-headed fan boys — the all-new 2009 Acura TSX — powerful double plenum grille (same as that found on the new 2009 Acura RL) and all. The new TSeXiness is supposedly "more agile and more powerful than ever before" and that seems to be the case given the DOHC i-VTEC in-line 4-cylinder producing 201 HP and 172 lb-ft of torque with the manny tranny. Get the rest of the deets below and remember to head back here later tonight when we're expecting to have some more TSX news. Unfortunately said news is not an S-type. But we can't have everything can we? Well, yet anyway.

All-new 2009 TSX is larger, more agile and more powerful than ever before, raising the standards for Acura's entry-level sedan.

The second-generation Acura TSX is designed to appeal to young professionals with its keen-edge styling, athletic performance and advanced electronic features

TORRANCE, Calif. - Designed and engineered to reaffirm its place as a desirable and affordable entry point for entry-premium buyers, the all-new second-generation 2009 TSX is larger, more agile, more performance minded and even "more Acura" than ever before. Carefully crafted to honor the original TSX's vision as a world-class sports sedan, the new TSX has significantly evolved to offer more comfort, convenience, driving performance and safety. It does so with expanded luxury and electronic features, a wider stance for more agile performance, and advanced safety systems.

The 2009 TSX is expected to appeal to current TSX owners, young professionals and other image seekers who will appreciate its innovative styling, technical allure and total performance - while also valuing the outstanding customer treatment that owners have come to enjoy at Acura dealerships. Extremely brand conscious and eclectic in their tastes, buyers will find the TSX as satisfying for driving colleagues to lunch as it is for weekend snowboarding trips or vacation travel.

Powertrain

An all-aluminum DOHC i-VTEC® in-line 4-cylinder engine heralds a pair of firsts for the TSX model, including dual balance shafts and a direct ignition system. Along with improved performance, it is also cleaner as it now meets the EPA's aggressive TIER 2 - BIN 5 and CARB LEV II Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) standards for the first time in TSX history.

Displacing 2.4-liters and producing 201 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque (with manual transmission), the new 4-cylinder engine produces its useable power across a much wider rpm range, while five percent more torque further strengthens the engine's pulling power at middle rpm levels. This torque allows the 2009 TSX to be more responsive off the line and out of corners, and stronger in the middle of the rpm range where the engine operates most of the time.

This newfound performance and flexibility is due in part to a higher compression ratio, revised valve timing, and improved intake and exhaust gas flow. Further credit goes to the TSX engine's i-VTEC® "intelligent" valve control system, which provides the power characteristics of a V-6 without sacrificing the light weight or fuel efficiency of an in-line four. Likewise, a new rear-mounted exhaust manifold layout, a close-coupled catalytic converter design, and a Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system substantially reduce emissions levels. Estimated fuel mileage is 21/30/24 mpg* (city/highway/combined, 5 AT) and 20/28/23 mpg* (city/highway/combined, 6 MT).

Two transmissions are available, both as standard equipment - a 6-speed close-ratio manual with new performance-oriented ratios for Second through Sixth gears, and a Sequential SportShift 5-speed automatic with a new lock-up torque converter assembly. The manual transmission features a short-throw shifter with a precise, light action that makes it highly rewarding to use, while the Sequential SportShift automatic permits fully automatic operation with intelligent features such as Grade Logic Control and Shift Hold Control, which make driving the TSX on hilly or winding roads more enjoyable. If the driver desires, the automatic transmission can also be operated manually via new steering-wheel mounted F1®-style paddle shifters.

Body and Chassis

The 2009 TSX body structure includes two firsts for the Acura division, including a closed-channel cross-braced roof structure and inside frame rails. Along with a stronger rear bulkhead, the closed-channel cross-braced roof structure yields a more rigid and vibration-resistant structure. The first use of inside frame rails for any Acura model help tailor the aerodynamics underneath the car for improved fuel economy, lower emissions and reduced noise. In addition, new A-, B- and C-pillar separators improve the TSX's quietness over rough roads and at high speed. Slippery aerodynamics helps fuel economy as well as high-speed stability - all while lowering emissions.

In addition to its 3.0-inch greater width and 2.6-inch wider track, the 2009 TSX has a 1.3-inch longer wheelbase and 2.4 inches more overall length. These dimensions combine to provide greater interior roominess, more agile handling and improved ride quality. Another first for Acura are the TSX's new dual-mode suspension dampers, which provide excellent suspension damping characteristics at both lower and higher damper speeds. Using a unique deflector plate stack, the new dampers continually adjust compression damping characteristics to suit the vehicle speed, cornering forces and road surface.

In creating the second-generation TSX body design, Acura designers sought to retain the crisp, dynamic design of the original and enhance it by widening the body overall and adding more muscular and distinctive cues to create a keen-edged sports sedan. Their key design goal was to create an aerodynamic design that evokes both emotion and tension with a decisivel
