<![CDATA[NASCAR Driver Hits Coyote At 190 MPH]]> "It just started smoking like crazy. And it smelled terrible. I didn't see anything in the mirror, so I was like, ‘I wonder where it went?'" Where it went below, but be warned, it's troubling and NSFW.

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Brad Coleman was testing at the Toyota Arizona Proving Grounds when he spotted the Coyote about 100 feet ahead. At 190 MPH it was too late to react.

The communications director for Joe Gibbs has confirmed the authenticity of the incident, if not the images, saying they came from a source outside the team. [via All Left Turns]

<![CDATA[Why Was This Ferrari F430 In A Lake For A Week?]]> A not-so-presently-happy Ferrari owner was joyriding when an unavoidable preventative reaction to apparently avoid hitting a bike-riding child landed his F430 in a road side lake. And there it sat, for a week. But why?

The true answer may never be known, but watching a wrecker pull the water-logged remains of a once beautiful and fish free Ferrari F430 from the drink makes us pucker just a little bit. Aside from the tensed reaction, it makes us wonder why in the world you'd let your pride and joy sit at the bottom of the lake for a week. Why weren't the cops involved? What about his insurance?

These are all very obvious questions that just don't seem to be answered in this clip, so we invite you to formulate your own creative epic tale in the comments below. And please, have fun with it. (H/T To Eggwich!) [TheDirty]

The driver reportedly took a wrong turn down a dead-end street in Racine, Wisconsin, necessitating a U-turn. While attempting the maneuver, the driver mistakenly hit the gas pedal rather than the brakes, sending the storied Wienermobile into a nearby house. (H/T To Chad!)

<![CDATA[I-75 Tanker Explosion Collapses Nine Mile Rd Overpass In Metro Detroit]]> A tanker truck and several other semi trucks were involved in a large accident on northbound I-75 in Metro Detroit. The tanker impacted with such force that it exploded, collapsing the Nine Mile Rd overpass.

Details are sketchy at this point, but reports say that the tanker truck (not known at this time what exactly it was carrying) hit the top of the bridge causing the explosion. Several other semi trucks were traveling along side as well as a few passenger cars. At this time there are no reported deaths or injuries.

According to witnesses on the scene, the recently completed Nine Mile Rd overpass collapsed over the I-75 northbound lane directly after the explosion which occurred around 8:15 pm. [via WXYZ]

<![CDATA[Husband's New Corvette Z06 Hit By Wife's Hyundai Genesis]]> A self-admitted worst day fell hard on a member of GenesisOwners after he and his wife picked up his brand-spankin-new Corvette Z06. Rain, traffic and non-attentive driving resulted in a bit of freeway carnage costing over $26,000.

The couple had owned the Hyundai Genesis for 9 months and the Z06 for only a few hours when all hell broke loose on a rainy Massachusetts freeway after leaving the Chevy dealership. A quick shift in traffic necessitated a quick reversal of speed from 60 mph down to 30 mph; a change his wife unfortunately did not notice. She barreled into the rear of the Z06 which then, under the slippery conditions, ran into the car next in line, resulting in just over $16,000 in damage to the Genesis and nearly $10,000 for the Z06.

Below are some of the highlights of the Z06 repair bill:

headlamps (HID) @ $992.21 a piece x 2
impact bar & energy asorber @ $765.49
front grille @ $144.07
fog lamp assy @ $168.15
radiator assy @ $549.05
air quality sensor @ $238.50
temp sensor @ $46.29
fan assy @ $425.18
condensor @ $342.58
hood @ $614.04
fenders @ $312.28 x 2
windshield @ $785.81

The $26,000 repair estimate doesn't include the car that the Z06 hit. Add it all up and this family's got one hell of an insurance rate spike coming their way. According to Zedbuyers the "morale of the story is don't let the wife follow you, and for god's sakes don't run the front of one of these things (Z06) into anything."

We'd listen to the man. Well, about the whole running the front of one of these things into anything. The sexist drivel? Not so much. [via GenesisOwners]

<![CDATA[Ferrari Enzo Crashes During Rallye De Paris]]> Why do we even try to Save The Enzos? Yet another Ferrari Enzo's (the second in three months!) bitten the dust. This one, at least, went down respectably, competing and crashing in the Rally de Paris at Magny Cours.

This Ezno, S/N 132658, submitted itself as an example for why we need our "Save the Enzos" campaign during a heated lap last March on a cold day at the Magny Cours circuit. The Enzo's tires hadn't properly heated up to a velcro-like state, so when the over-zealous driver misjudged a corner, he ended up in this precarious position on top of the tire wall.

With two Enzos down this year, are we going to need to reprint t-shirts again? [via FerrariChat]

<![CDATA[Plane Falls From South African Sky, Crashes Into Ford Ute, Fireball Ensues]]> A two-seater Piper Cherokee lost control and crashed into a Ford Ute shortly after taking off from Krugersdorp Airport, near Johannesburg, South Africa. Miraculously, out of the five people involved, no one was killed.

The light aircraft was spotted by the three passengers in the Ford Ute, who were rendered immobile by the sight of the plane falling out of the sky while traveling in their general direction. The Piper Cherokee hit head on, damaging the front end of the Ute and throwing the rear passenger out of the vehicle. The plane and its two passengers weren't as lucky. After the impact the plane erupted in flames, trapping them inside. Fortunately for them a passerby made the brave decision to risk his own life in order to rescue the two. They were taken to the hospital with extensive injuries, but are reported to fully recover.

The driver of the Ute, Monica Braganca, had this to say about the incident:

"I was thinking we were going to die, not one ounce of me thought I was going to survive. It felt like in a movie. I couldn't say anything, no one was screaming. I just thought it was the end, I'd never be lucky enough to escape it.

The scary part was seeing the faces of the pilots looking straight at us."

We guess that Ute really was Ford Tough. [via TheTimes.co.za, News.com.au]

<![CDATA[Usain Bolt Flips His BMW M3]]> Jamaican Olympic champion Usain Bolt, the fastest man alive, was going fast enough to flip his new BMW M3 multiple times before landing in a ditch. Maybe he should stick to running.

According to his manager the sprinter is fine, though video from Sky News shows a bandage around his foot. Given the condition of the car he appears to have been lucky. Reports also mention a female passenger, so we're a little curious about what might have been going on inside the car to cause the quick Bolt to lose his attention.

A Jamaican man who witnessed the crash give Bolt a "10" for his landing of the BMW. An Australian woman who also saw the accident only gave it a "4" due to a previously unheard of technical efficiency. Hat Tip to Damian!

<![CDATA[Car Crashes Into Dutch Queen's Holiday Parade]]> The BBC claims this car careened into a crowd, killing at least two during a Dutch parade while deliberately attempting to ram an open-topped bus carrying the Dutch Royal Family including Queen Beatrix. Video below.

The BBC report is unconfirmed, but they do know that as the black Suzuki drove through the crowd, fourteen people were injured and at least two people were killed before it finally came to a stop after hitting a fence surrounding a monument as the royal family watched in horror. No information has been released about the driver or what his true intentions were, but if the BBC is wrong and it is an accident, it's a mighty unfortunate one. The parade was held in celebration of the Queen's Day national holiday just north of Amsterdamn, in the city of Apeldoorn. No royals were hurt in the incident. [via BBC]

<![CDATA[Man Tragically Dragged 17 Miles Underneath Van]]> Early this morning a man in New York City was struck by an SUV while crossing the street. He was then hit by another van and dragged for 17 miles, dying along the way.

The red van, owned by Cancun Express Car Service, was spotted at a Coney Island with something hanging from the undercarriage. It turned out that the driver had run over the victim after the initial accident and dragged him underneath the van for 17 miles through the streets of Brooklyn. Unfortunately, the man died at some point along the way. The event currently isn't being seen as a criminal case because the driver was unaware he had a body lodged under his van.

Our condolences go out to the victim's family and we offer this word of advice to all of you: Please be aware of what you drive over and if your car suddenly seems to be acting strange, please stop and check it out. There's a potential that the strange sound you hear is something way more serious than you'd ever imagine.
(Thanks For The Tip Matthew!)
