Although you'd never expect it with such few changes Abt's made to the exterior shell. Although Abt gives their R32 a new side skirt, blackened chrome dual pipes and of course, 19-inch wheels and Abt decals, very little else signals the changes Abt's got going on under that blue bonnet.

And yes, the changes are a-plenty under the hood, as Abt's tuning team took the base engine from VW and spun the dial to 11 by way of a modified motor management system and the introduction of an Abt compressor kit with supercharger and air cooling system. Those changes bump the base model up 120 horses to a tire-squealing 370 HP. Those changes to the motor also boost the top speed to over 168 MPH, with a 0-to-60 time of a mere 5.0 seconds. Five ain't scratch, but it ain't too shabby either. [via World Car Fans]

<![CDATA[ Abt Audi AS5 turbodiesel ich bin Bat Guano ]]> A few months back we told you about the Abt AS5 which is a tweaked version of Audi's 3.0-liter TDI A5. Well guess what? They went even harder. Horsepower, originally up from 240 to 272 hp, is now an even 300 ponies. But the real news is the torque. Are you sitting down? Yeah? OK: 442 ft-lbs. of the stuff. From a 3.0-liter engine!! Wasn't it not long ago that heavy duty one-ton pickups stonked way, way less twist? All that torque shows up at 2,400 rpm, 60 mph happens in 5.3 seconds on the car's way to a 164 mph top speed. It always bears repeating: Americans buy horsepower but drive torque. Can we get some decent diesels over here, or what? [via Motor Authority]

<![CDATA[ Audi Steam Hammer: Abt AS6 3.0 TDI ]]> Will diesels ever fill the performance gap with gas burners in the car-buying marketplace (and not just the Le Mans track)? Perhaps. The Kempten tuners at Abt say they've tweaked 300 horsepower from Audi's 3.0 TDI. It's a 20 percent increase from stock, by way of a supercharger and ECU remapping. It can turn under sevens in the zero-to-60 sprint, which isn't bad for an oil burner. Of course, we're waiting until Audi's V12 TDI starts showing up in these things. And not via Ingolstadt, either.

Press Release:

Abt Sportsline 2007 - press release calendar week 39
The power pack from Kempten: The Abt AS6 3.0 TDI with 300 hp

The newest brilliant invention forthcoming from the Bavarian art of engineering is the 3.0 TDI Diesel with a work performance of 100 hp per liter. A real steam hammer from the engine fitness center of Abt Sportsline. The performance data of the Abt AS6 3.0 TDI are impressing, more than ever in comparison with the serial engine. The power increase amounts to around 20 percent; instead of 233 hp (171 kW), now 300 Diesel horses are available. And they push the car forward with overwhelming power. The maximum torque, getting free at 4000 rpm, is breathtaking 600 Nm. At the same torque, the already powerful serial self-igniting engine gives 450 Nm to the crankshaft. 33 percent torque increase is enough reason that the Abt AS6 3.0 TDI becomes more sporty. The 300 Diesel horses do not only offer a sporty feeling, also the acceleration data correspond to sporty top-class cars. Within 6.9 seconds the AS6 is catapulted to 100 and to a top speed of 249 km/h (serial 242 km/h). This enormous additional performance potential of the Abt V6 TDI is made possible by the new programming of the engine management and by the assembly of the Abt supercharger which is especially adjusted to the engine. As usual for the leading tuner of cars from the Volkswagen group, also this Diesel steam hammer is stable and absolutely suitable for everyday use.

In order that the powerful AS6 3.0 TDI always remains controllable, the team from Abt installed the Abt brake system and this proves to always cope with the additional requirement. And so does the adjustable suspension, perfectly adjusted by the DTM Pro Christian Abt, which optimally brings the power onto the road. Diesel and driving pleasure are finally joining their forces in the A6. Of course, the designers from Kempten also developed a tailor-made suit for the premium sportscar. Abt side skirts create a dynamical line from the elegant but outstanding front with the unobtrusive front spoiler lip to the brawny rear. The broad fenders with the outwards aligned rims are extra emphasized by the Abt rear skirt. Anyway, most road users will only see the Abt AS6 from behind and there an impressive view is offered. With the rear spoiler and the four chromed Abt end-pipes also the car's back view appears optically powerful. Appearance and performance are a good match. As a matter of course, Abt Sportsline also offers suitable wheels and wheel-tyre sets for the AS6 and recommends, e.g., the sports wheel AR20 in the size 9.0 x 20 inch.

<![CDATA[ It Had to Happen: Abt-Tuned Audi R8 ]]>

Well, kids, someone had to gain the first tuner advantage over the Audi R8. And the one is Abt. Aptly, Abt is one of the premiere Audi tuners in existence, so they've had the inside track on the R8's 4.2-liter V8 for nigh on a couple years now. This product of the shop's creative talents has yet to appear outside the realm of digital imagery and skunkwerks garage, but we're expecting a proper unveiling at the Essen motor show in Germany this fall. The result is a supercharged 530 hp from the V8 — 110 hp more than stock — and a top speed of 197 mph. That should fill the gap between the base model and the rumored V10-powered model that's on the way.

Press Release:

Sports car in perfection

There are cars and dream cars. The latter includes Lamborghini's Gallardo, Ferrari's F430 or Porsche's 911 Turbo. These cars make your heart beat faster and show the perfected magic of speed on the roads. Abt Sportsline's R8 will also be among these outstanding super sports cars and is getting ready to overtake them in the prestige duel.

The design studies already show the first impressions of Abt's sportiest creation - and prove that the Kempten-based tuner manages to perfect an excellent serial model like the R8 to detail and accentuate its racing genes already in the drawing. The front of the Bavarian R8 shows the marked Abt face. Together with the unique and beautiful rear with its four inclined arranged exhaust end pipes, the rear diffuser and the extravagant rear wing, the front of the Abt R8 is part of an overall concept that brings about phenomenal roadholding. The add-on parts of the super sports cars from the Allg u-region improve downforce and ensure perfect balance of the front and rear axis. This is especially notable in speed ranges reserved for only a few cars. The sideblades which were developed especially for the Abt R8 and the Abt side skirts give the Abt R8 a new and individual design besides aerodynamical advantages. The aerodynamically efficient Abt body kit, which also includes carbon-fibre parts, is a real eye catcher but also shows the state-of-the-art Bavarian precision work. With the ingenious construction, which also includes a carbon-fibre bonnet, not only a maximum reduction in weight is achieved but it also ensures optimized weight distribution of the Abt R8 - the pure presence of the model athlete already shows this.

Technology and design milestones do not only come from Maranello or Sant'Agata-Bolognese but also from Kempten. The Abt R8 will be a gorgeous dream car with the genes of a top-class race car. This special automobile will belong to one of the fastest among the fastest; the Abt R8 will also challenge the Lamborghinis and Porsches. With regards to the anticipated performance data the Bavarians are traditionally discreet. But this data already amazes sports car fans and makes them want to spur the hot-blooded Bavarian horses. 530 HP (390 kW) are to be drawn from the 4.2 litre-V8 thanks to the Abt supercharger. Compared with the serial model which already shows impressive performance data this means an increase of 110 HP (81 kW). The brand new Abt 20-inch BR wheels stylishly transfer this power onto the asphalt. The all-wheel-drive dream car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 317 km/h. These values are synonymous with magic and this extraordinary super sports car desperately wants to be driven. By means of the Abt suspension which is adjustable in height, pressure and rebound, the performance and driving comfort of the super sports car can be adapted perfectly to the requirements of its driver.

A dream car is becoming reality: In autumn the top-class sports cars will have a new challenger as this is when the almost unrivalled fast and uniquely beautiful Abt R8 becomes available.

<![CDATA[ Son of TT-R: Abt Sportsline's Sleeper TT ]]>

If you thought the the Abt TT-R was a bit too much car — or just too much — German tuning and motorsports firm has a training set. It's the TT-Sport, and it comes in various stages of tune (for the 2.0-liter four) from 240 hp up to 300 hp. That top tuner can scurry from zero to 60 in 5.5 seconds. Visually, the Sport package is less demonstrative than the TT-R's, with and aero kit comprising rear wing, skirting, bumpers twin-pipe, plus a twin-pipe rear muffler and diffuser. The result is a victory of economy over decoration. Fake chest hair, sold separately.

<![CDATA[ Abt Pupil: The Audi TT-R Tuner ]]>

German Audi tweaker, Abt Sportsline, launched its new tuner last week, the TT-R — a hotted-up version of the company's latest coupe. The range-topping model's undergone various kittings that boost the 3.2-liter VR6's power to 355 hp (supercharger, engine chip), though the company offers lesser stages for the six (310 hp) and 2.0-liter four (270 / 240 hp). Body kit, suspension tunings and 19" wheels are part of the stuff list. Trophy wife not included.

Press Release:

The new Abt TT - Comeback of the year

With the Abt TT-R Abt Sportsline celebrated the most amazing motor sport victories in the season 2002. Hardly anyone was able to beat the Abt TT-R. In nine of the ten DTM races at least one of the Abt pilots clinched a podium position, and at the end Laurent Aiello won the DTM championship in the yellow Abt TT-R. Therefore it is no wonder that the Abt team from Kempten has a special relationship with "their" TT and it is a fortunate coincidence that the second version of this sporty Audi model just appears on the market when the family enterprise celebrates its 110th company anniversary. At the same time, this happenstance means a challenge for Abt Sportsline - a challenge the team from Kempten meets by enhancing this exceptional sports car.

The new Audi TT is a model which already combines clarity and form with modern technology in the serial car and therefore offers maximum driving pleasure. "This is the best precondition we can imagine to perfect a car," explains Hans-J rgen Abt, managing director of Abt Sportsline - and presents convincing data:

The masterpiece in the new Abt TT model range is the Abt TT-R equipped with a VR6 3.2 ltr. engine and a performance of 355 HP (262 kW). This outstanding sports car offers real racing adventure for the roads. The Abt TT-R accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds compared to the serial model that takes 5.9 seconds.

In connection with the Abt TT-Sport models, the Bavarian team has also noticeably boosted the power of the VR6 3.2 ltr. and 2.0 T-FSI engines . The Abt supercharger kit and modifications of the motor management ensure that the 3.2 ltr. 6-cylinder engine now performs 310 HP (228 kW) instead of the serial 250 HP (184 kW). The Abt engineers also did a good job with the 2.0 TFSI engine. They upgraded the serial power of 200 HP (147 kW) to 270 HP (199 kW) with a maximum torque of 350 Nm (serial 280 Nm).

For the new 2-litre TT Abt also offers its innovative intelligentSport-technology. Specific modifications of the motor management allow the Abt TT-iS to be fuelled with standard, super or superplus gasoline. The performance increases to as much as 240 HP (177 kW) depending on the fuel quality. More power - less thirst. With an additional Abt gearbox modification the fuel consumption of the Abt TT-iS can be reduced by up to four litres.

Besides the power boost, the modified design of the Abt TT models was one of the most important factors. In this connection Abt Sportsline has developed special body styling parts that make the TT a real eye-catcher communicating power and dynamics. With an integrated grille element, the front skirt emphasizes the area around the fog lights and single-frame grille so that the face of the Abt TT becomes even more aggressive and marked. The lateral body styling parts continue the dynamical body language and lead directly to the extravagant rear with rear skirt inset and rear wing. In contrast to the filigree serial part the Abt rear wing cannot be folded but is a part that is firmly integrated into hatchback. The result is not only a racier design; it also brings about more downforce. The 4-pipe rear muffler is the finishing touch that perfectly harmonizes with the black rear skirt inset and rear diffuser. To round off the striking overall optical design, Abt Sportsline recommends the 19-inch wheels AR19 and SP1 with tyres sized 255/35 ZR 19.

What is more, Abt has also included a special suspension kit and suspension springs in its product range so as to meet the demands of the power upgrade and modified design.

The new Abt TT with its extraordinary driving performance and body styling has everything a winner needs.

Abt TT engine models:
VR6 3.2 K 355 HP (262 kW) Abt TT-R
VR6 3.2 K 310 HP (228 kW) Abt TT-Sport
2.0 T-FSI 270 HP (199 kW) Abt TT-Sport
2.0 T-FSI 240 HP (177 kW) Abt TT-iS

<![CDATA[ Q Is for Quick: ABT Sportsline's AS7-R ]]>

VW/Audi tuner Abt Sportsline has launched its hotted-up version of the 4.2-liter V8-powered Audi Q7, giving it a boost to 500 horsepower. Such extra juice gives the Audi Q7 bus a 0-to-60 time of 5.9 seconds and new top speed of 162 mph. Ok, so it's not a rocket ship, but we just had an idea. How about a kind of Craftsman Series that pitted German full-sized SUVs against each other on the oval? Maybe it could be called the Kraftwerk Series. Who's with me?

<![CDATA[ Abt Pupil: Tuning Volkswagen's Jetta TDI ]]>

German tuning haus Abt Sportsline recently launched its go-go package for the Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 TDI, which boosts the oil-burner's horsepower by 30 to 170 and torque by 37 lbs.-ft to 273 total. The extra juice comes by way of engine software tweaking, and cuts the Jet's zero-to-60 time into the mid-eight-second range from the base model's time of forever.9. A set of progressively actuated sport suspension springs show get tighter when pushed hard, and involves a 40 mm drop floorward. A body kit and a set of Abt alloys over Continental meats complete the package, the price of which has yet to be announced.

<![CDATA[ Abt's Next-Gen Volkswagen GTI: VS4-R ]]>

When VW tuning shop Abt Sportsline unveiled its version of the newest VW Golf GTI at the Essen Motor Show in 2004, we thought for sure we'd have a damn GTI in the states by December 2005. Now, Abt is on its second version — an even more powerful build — and we've yet to get even a stock GTI here (it's coming, don't fret). Ah, well. The boys at Kempten have added 40hp to their previous creation, by way of a new turbo setup that gives the 2.0 FSI engine on the VS4-R a grand total of 270hp and 258 ft-lbs. of torque. Zero to 60 times are in the area of 6.4 seconds, and top speed is a respectable 151 mph. Needless to say, tuned suspension, body kit and five-spoke alloys are included with the package.
