New V8-Powered Pagani Zonda Spotted Again?

We've been told to expect a new version of the Pagani Zonda that supposedly will ditch the big ol' Mercedes V12 in favor of a smaller new V8. Now we've got even more evidence to support the case thanks to AutoExpress. They've been kind enough to bring us these sneaky photos showing us up-close details of the new car.

The 700 HP Mansory Renovatio Can Save The SLR From Certain Celebrity Death

The McLaren SLR always leaves us scratching our heads. The thundering V8 is brilliantly finessed by McLaren so as to attract only the highest-end of horsepower-happy hoon. However, it's just too pretty. The engine's wrapped up in a package that screams for the depths of the celebrity elite — the oil barons, soccer stars, "gangsta" moguls and Gumballers of the world — to buy it and have their way with it. And by that we mean everything from showing off your "no-no spot," having difficulty entering and exiting, DUIs and of course, smacking into the rear (or front) bumper of a late-model Honda Civic. But for the privileged lowest of the low, the tuning shop of Mansory has put together an attempt to "Save The SLR" by making a version of the McLaren-mobile sure to be unwanted by even the most privileged of douches-with-privilege. It's called the Renovatio.

What Is Your Ideal Pair Of Vehicles?

BRABUS got us thinking about pairs with their SLR McLaren and Smart package deal. How great would it be to get vehicles custom matched to fill various needs in your life? Even better, what about cars matched to fulfill your various automotive desires? One of our favorite actual pairings has to be the Bluebird RV with matching Mercedes SLK (now that's a bail out vehicle). It's not something automakers or tuners do very often, given the implicit cost. I think our ideal combination would be the Unimog-based Unicat paired with a roof-mounted Rinspeed Bedouin. But that's us. More »

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 GT Bound For US

The track-only Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 GT is coming to America, Prince Akeem style. Distributed by RENNtech, the $1.2 million toys are going to be setup similar to the Ferrari FXX program, in that when you plop down all that money for a supercar you also get special track days with training for how to not kill yourself behind the wheel (and time in the SLR karts). The racer tips the scales at just over 3,000 pounds, which means that the 680 horsepower supercharged V8 will propel you and your suddenly lighter billfold to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. But act fast, there are only 21 slots available. Full press release below the jump.

Ach! Mercedes SLR 722 GTR

We haven't heard from Mercedes on this one, but its sweeping the Mercheads community like a superstrain of mono. A track-only McLaren Mercedes SLR 722? Why yes, it's the GTR, and according to accompanying signage, it's 661 pounds less than a typical 722. It's a ready-to-race model in the vein of the Ferrari FXX. Apparently, only 21 are set for production, at 775,000 Euros a pop, and will likely be sold only to hardcore Mercedes insiders. [Carpassion via Supercars.net]

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster - More Interior Shots

After that exteriorgasm, it's now time to muss up the interior a bit. Here's the full load of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster's leather-wrapped insides.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster - More Exterior Shots

While Mercedes already released shots and a press release on the new SLR McLaren Roadster back in May, they just released a mess of new pictures of the 626 hp drop-top. Maybe it's just because it's raining outside today buy we figured why not indulge in a bit of summer convertible car-love with these new lovingly p-shopped SLR shots — especially as it may be the last McLaren-Mercedes love-fest. Without further talking to mess it up, here's the outer shell.

Mercedes and McLaren Splitsvile on New Supercar

According to Automotive News Europe, there's trouble in supercar paradise. Mercedes and McLaren, once close as kittens in a basket, are reportedly parting ways, putting the kabosh on a successor to the SLR. Word is, Mercedes has opted for the mad motorsports acumen of HWA, partner in Merc's DTM racers. A prototype of Mercedes' next six-fig super-sports car, under the AMG banner, could arrive in time for the Geneva motor show next year. But utter no lamentations for McLaren. All those Formula One bucks have to go somewhere, and word is they're going toward a new F1 supercar. Methinks a supercar grudge match could benefit all. More »

Mercedes Drops Top On SLR McLaren Roadster

You've seen the spy shots, now we've got it live and in full effect...via press shots. Yup, it's not in person, but seeing the 626 hp drop-top in the PR pics is still better than the spy photos. And why wouldn't it be? With its AMG V8 compressor engine this 'vert promises all the McLaren-y goodness of the coupe (minus a few extra mph on the top end) while still giving you the opportunity to listen to highly precise German folk music bubbling up through the BOSE sound system with the wind whipping through whatever's left of your hair. So stop on by the Woking, England factory if you're looking to drop the requisite Deutschmarks (or Euros...or probably Pounds as it's built in the British Isles) to snap up your own scissor-door (yup, no gulls on this no-top drop-top) McLaren — although we've no idea yet what the pricing will be. Full press release after the jump. More »

Renntech's Mercedes-McLaren SLR 722 Tweakage

For years, Florida's RENNtech has long been the first stop for well-heeled Mercedes mavens and prospective road-rallyists who wanted an output boost for their SLs. But the company offers hi-po gear across the Merc range, from the lowly (not to us) Sprinter to the highbrow SLR. The SLR too? Right. Upgrades to the pride of Mercedes-McLaren 722 take the form of upgraded intercoolers and their respective pumps, allowing for more boost and putting the 722 (named after Stirling Moss's and Denis Jenkinson's starting time in the 1955 Mille Miglia of 7:22 am) closer to 722 horsepower. As for price, consult your tax accountant.

Spy Photos: Mercedes McLaren SLR Droptop

The Car and Driver society has procured some long-lens stalker shots of an upcoming Mercedes-McLaren SLR roadster prototype cruising the Canary Islands. The M&Ms have already confirmed the big-buck droptop is on the way. But whether the half-million-dollar supercar will get the coupe's butterfly doors or a straight-up scissor configuration is probably the most pressing question at this juncture. C'mon, the valet community has to know these things for parking's sake. More »

Silver Arrow Droptop: Mercedes McLaren SLR Convertible Confirmed

Just as reported late last year, Mercedes confirmed the new convertible McLaren SLR is on the way. The SLR droptop is slated for a summer debut, just in time for "the season," in bougie parlance. For visual guidance, we direct your attention to the auspicious 1999 Vision SLR concept convertible, one of the two concepts that introduced the world to Mercedes-McLaren's partnership at the Frankfurt motor show. (The Vision SLR coupe debuted in Detroit earlier that year.) No word on engine or power or price yet. We'll know more around the time we can wear white again. More »

Company Supercar: Fernando Alonso Gets a Mercedes-McLaren SLR 722

If you were an F1 wunderkind like Fernando Alonso, who not only broke Schumacher's streak but also became the youngest F1 champion ever, what kind of company car would you want? Over at Renault, we'd imagine the best they could do for El Nano was an old R5 Turbo 2, but now racing for McLaren, he's just taken delivery of a 650-hp Mercedes-McLaren SLR 722, which sports a zero-to-60 time of 3.6 seconds. We're not sure whether the car was part of his contract, but of course it should have been if it wasn't. We're just wondering how many cases of Red Bull he turned down. More »

Awww...Poor Little SLR: McMerc to be Raffled for Charity

The Pohanka Automotive Group of Salisbury, MD made a mistake. They bought one more Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR than they thought they could sell. Well, actually, they bought one for a customer who backed out nearly a year ago and haven't been able to unload it. According to Marketing Director Chris Hagel, "If it were New York or Washington D.C., then it would probably be a lot easier to sell it." But since it's Maryland, the task's a bit tougher, which is why Hagel has put together a charity raffle to allow his company to cover their loss while benefitting Toys for Tots. A hundred bucks gets you in, and as of the moment, 1,200 tickets remain. More »

How'd She Get The SLR Back? The Paris Hilton And Friends Post-DUI Video

We were always under the impression that if you get a DUI, your car gets impounded — even if you're Paris Hilton. We dunno if there's a clause in the law for celebs like Paris — or maybe the law is if you're found guilty — regardless, we don't remember what happened last time. We kid. Either way, we didn't think you could just get someone to pick you up in your own car after you post bail, which is what seems to be happening with celeb-whore Paris Hilton. Is this video proof of another case of the LAPD showing some leniency to a celeb? And who the hell is giggling on the video during the first few seconds of the tape? And most importantly, how does Paris' spokes-whore Elliot Mintz look so calm at 4:00 AM — is it valium, or something more? Whatevs — we're getting bored of the whole story — so can't someone smack up the McLaren or tell Paris to get her freak on? Let's make this salacious, people! [Hat tip to tr!] More »

The Benz Is The Problem: More On The Paris Hilton DUI

The New York Times/AP are reporting Paris Hilton was driving her Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren torque monster when she was pulled over by LAPD last night for "erratic driving." We're surprised the spokes-whore of Hollywood's hawtest celeb-whore, Elliot Mintz, hasn't yet implicated the car in the DUI yet — because if you click the jump, you'll see that the German side of the German-American hybrid's been implicated in all sorts of drunken tomfoolery — even some drunken Wert-foolery. So just so you know Mintz, we've had all sorts of success in blaming them for such things for years. [Hat tip to SwatLax! Hat tip on the jump picture to Mike Austin!] More »

We're Gonna Go Be a Sheik Now: Inside Hamad bin Hamdan's Garage

Dude, being a sheik kinda seems as if it's the business. Harems, all the oil one can slather upon oneself, warm weather, clothes that never go out of style, hanging with T.E. Lawrence, and oh, most importantly, a whole shiek-sized garageload of exotic iron. Or, in Sheik Hamad bin Hamdan of Abu Dhabi's case, aluminum and carbon fiber. Mercedes-McLaren SLR to Lose its Lid

Because Ms. Hilton, reveling in born-again virginity (sorry, Lindsay, we goofed) needs to work on her tan, The Merceded-McLaren tree trolls are working up a drophead version of the SLR, says AutoExpress. Word is, the model — which has the same mechanicals as the coupe — is in production and will hit the streets within six months — too bad, the Paris show is too soon (so not hot). More »
