9ff GT9 Hits 254mph, Still Not World's Fastest Car

While 9ff have successfully topped the Bugatti Veyron's top speed of 252mph, they're still 1mph shy of the SSC Ultimate Aero TT's record. That must really sting. The 9ff GT9 will now go on sale, available for the bargain basement price of $854,000.

Tuner Hoonage: 9ff Looks to Break Bugatti Veyron's Record

Supercar company SSC isn't the only contender for the Bugatti Veyron's speed throne. German Porsche tuner 9ff has spent the past two years working up a 911 it hopes will hit 254 mph, 1 mph faster than the Alsatian Bug. The GT9 is powered by a twin-turbo Porsche flat six displacing 4.2 liters and producing 910-950 hp horsepower. Whether or not the GT9 does unseat the Bugatti at the Nardo test track later this year, you can still get one for the considerable sum of 476,000 EUR. Of course, you might want to wait; that level of cash outlay will go down better if the GT9 isn't merely the second fastest in the world.

Tub's Revenge: 9ff Tunes the Porsche 997 Turbo

The engine twiddlers at Porsche tuning shop 9ff have already created a tuning kit that boosts the Carrera GT's power into the 900 hp range, and have brought a 911 to speeds in excess of 241 mph. To satisfy the little people (always the altruists, them) the wizards of Dormund worked up a new manner of new engine kit for pedestrian 911 Turboistas and the cars they treat like Euro Disney on the autobahn. The top-spec kit increases the 997 Turbo's peak horsepower all the way to 640. This Stage III package brings the Tub to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, 125 in 10.7 sec and 213 mph in however long that'll take. Not enough? Opt for the 720 hp Sportmotor. More »

Hats off to 9ff: Tuning the 997 Porsche Cabrio

Winding out a convertible to 217 mph, we'd imagine, is like flying a Gulfstream V with T-tops. Of course, though the tuning boys at 9ff made such a feat possible, they did it with the top up, mitigating the need for an O2 mask. That means next to a Hemi-powered plain-jane Dodge Charger cop car, the company's all-wheel tuner 911 cabrio is the ultimate sleeper. They make it so by upclocking the factory model to reach 650 hp and boosting the brakes (gee, thanks). More »

The Cayman Porsche Should Have Built?

Notwithstanding Porsche's business reasons for not making its Cayman a direct competitor to its own 911, tuning shops around the world are doing what many enthusiasts feel should have been done at the factory: Slotting larger engines into the Cayman's midship engine bay. The latest to do so is 9ff of Dortmund, Germany. Using the expertise from whence came their 911 GT3, which set a speed record back in 2005, the company has inserted a 4.1-liter version of the Porsche flat six, producing 420hp, into one of its tuner cars, dubbed CR42 (it's also preparing a less-potent, 3.8-liter version with 380 hp). According to 9ff, the CR42 can go from zero to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds, just 0.3 from that of a new 911 GT3 in stock trim. No word on price, but we'd imagine the CR42 will probably be competitive with the GT3's six-figure tag, all told. Decisions, decisions. More »

Porsche Tuner Becomes Supercar Builder

Porsche tuning house and RUF-rival 9ff is building an all-new 900hp supercar based on the 911's powertrain. The mid-engined 9F-GTI, as it's known in production, will be powered by a four-liter version of Porsche's 3.6-liter flat-six, and will utilize a tubular spaceframe created by 9ff engineers. No word on what such an animal would look like, though a riff on the Carrera GT wouldn't be unlikely — possibly like the AutoBild spec job, pictured. More »
