Oops. We took the liberty of pulling down all eleven of the optional colors and taking a peek at the specs before the big bosses in Trollhattan hear about it.

It seems the 9-4X will be making 245 HP at 5,300 RPM and 295 lb-ft of torque at 1900 RPM from its 2.0-liter turbo mill. That'll be good for a 0-62 MPH run in 6.4 seconds — if we're to believe the numbers published on the Chilean Saab website. Fuel economy is impressive for the power output: 25 MPG city and 37 MPG on the highway, though we assume those aren't US EPA numbers. Chilean pricing is about $66,000 including taxes, but it's tough to divine a US dollar equivalent from that number. [Saab Chile (Translated) via WCF]

<![CDATA[ 2010 Saab 9-4X Spotted Taped Up But Bra-less ]]> The 2010 Saab 9-4X may have already been partially revealed, but The Car Connection has gotten their hands on a set of photos of the new Saab that are thankfully much larger and clearer, lacking the bra found on previous spy shots. Based on the same platform underpinning the new Cadillac SRX, the Saab will be a step up in the SUV department from the Swedish brand's Trailblazer-cum-Saab adventures.

Though we've seen the crossover lapping the ring with everyone else, we don't expect the Theta Premium CUV to be a challenger to the CTS-V or ZR1 anytime soon. We do expect it to premiere sometime within the next six months. [The Car Connection]

<![CDATA[ GM Buckles To Jalopnik Pressure, Reveals Slightly Less Grainy Images Of Upcoming Lineup ]]> UPDATE: We used the "GM Buckles" line for purposes of humor. They really didn't "officially release" these pictures. They're from the same video presentation we saw earlier in the week. Just a wee bit more clear than the last set.

The clamor of every auto enthusiast outlet on the face of this earth was apparently too much for GM. They've just released slightly less grainy shots of what we showed you first Tuesday afternoon — the vehicles "Slick" Rick Wagoner revealed at Tuesday's press conference. Apparently none of the assembled outlets were able to figure out how we got our mitts on those shots of the 2011 Chevy Cruze, 2010 Cadillac SRX, 2010 Chevy Equinox, 2010 Saab 9-4X and an unnamed Buick sedan for 2010 — and of course we're not planning on revealing our slightly silly source. But, thanks to their demand for access, we now get an ever-so-slightly better look at the purported saviors of the GM sales world. Have a gander.

<![CDATA[ 2010 Saab 9-4X Copies Cool Kids, Laps The 'Ring ]]> The 2010 Saab 9-4X was caught running round the Nurburgring today just like the big boys and while we're pretty certain the Audi (both of them) is (are) a pinch quicker, the 9-4X is definitely more economical. Word on the street is the new 9-4X will not only be replacing the porky Oldsmobile Bravada Saab 9-7X, but will be doing it with some form of "biopower" like the original show car. The crossover of Trollhattan is expected to be on sale some time in 2009 for the 2010 model year, but that didn't stop our KGP spies from spittin' words about this one — which you can read after the break.

Saab has hit the Nürburgring with their new 9-4x midsize crossover. While we've seen the Swedish variant of GM's Theta/Theta Premium people movers on GM test tracks and on the public roads around Michigan, this is the first time we've seen it getting a true workout to test its handling dynamics at the limit.

<![CDATA[ Detroit Auto Show: Top Five Concept Car Features That'll Never See Production ]]> Concept cars are notorious for rarely making it to the street. But what about the enticing features that designers include in their dreamy visions of our automotive future? We combed through the files we've amassed at the show this week and come up with five features that don't stand a chance in hell of ever escaping the shimmering incubator of the world's design studios. Count 'em down, after the jump.

5.) Saab 9-4x BioPower: Stainless-steel ski rack. Sure, it looks fine, and having the titanium-carbon-fiber Rossignols on the roof is just too risky these days. But where will the douchebag couple who spends the eight hours to Vermont talking about their trip to St. Bart's sit? Think about it.

4.) Saturn Flextreme: Clamshell trunk. While shellfish and trunk space are both well liked, combining the two is a pipe dream that'll, unfortunately, never be fulfilled. Saturn designers deserve credit for out-of-the-mollusk thinking, though. Hiho!

saab_flextreme_clam.jpg

3.) Lincoln MKT: Those massive gauge tubes were reportedly inspired by Swarovski crystal. While they do add an upmarket, Ice Pirates ambiance to the Lincoln, no corporate lawyer in Scarsdale who's ever had a knock-down-drag-out with his spouse in the living room would risk another crystal decanter to the face, under any circumstances.

2.) Maybach Landaulet: Rear-seat convertible top. When everything shakes out, the 2010s may be known as the decade robber barons returned to lord it over the faltering middle class. But will the new JP Morgans and Vanderbilts really want to be chauffeured al fresco? We're betting not. These days, the proles have guns and laser scopes.

1.) Mazda Furai: Itself.

BONUS: One Feature Missing from a Detroit Concept Car: Hummer HX. Notwithstanding its visual connection to the Halo 3 Warthog fighting vehicle, the Hummer HX concept could be a great success on the dystopian streets of post-revolutionary America. But the kids would demand a turret mount, a glaring omission from the concept. Keeping the Covenant from attacking humanoid refugee shelters would be impossible without it.

<![CDATA[ Detroit Auto Show: Saab 9-4X BioPower Concept ]]> As part of its Ethanol extravaganza, GM showed off its Saab 9-4x BioPower concept, a preview of a small Saab SUV. Set up with a 2.0-liter four producing 300 hp on E85 Ethanol, and driven by the same four-wheel gear as the Turbo X, the 9-4x is a thoroughly non-Saaburu, sharing a platform with European Cadillacs. Piloting the concept to stage left was a blond-on-blond family of winter sports enthusiasts. It's like they're Swedish, get it?

<![CDATA[ Saab 9-4X BioPower Now Available in High Resolution ]]> We brought you leaked shots of the Saab 9-4X this morning, but now high-res shots are out for all to see. The smallish SUV with a biofuel heart sure does trump the current offerings from the automaker formerly known as Swedish for quirky. Among the interesting features we can see are a slide out ski rack, two sets of captains chairs, and what looks like a glass covered center stack - tres chic.

<![CDATA[ Go Dutch! Saab 9-4X BioPower Concept Leaked Ahead of Detroit Intro ]]> The land that brought you Rembrandt, pannekoeken and the tulip has another surprise hidden in its clogs. It's the Saab 9-4X BioPower concept, apparently leaked prematurely by Dutch auto site AutoTelegraaf. The pics are small, but the news is fairly large; the concept hearkens an imminent arrival of Saab's first small SUV. It's been a long time coming, with rumor mill entries going back to 2005, when a 9-6X mini-ute was to have sprung from the erstwhile Subaru tieup. GM's Swedish 4x4 will reportedly get power from the typical Saabian 2.0-liter turbo four producing 245 horsepower, though 300 is expected under E85 Ethanol juicing. It'll also expected to get Saab's latest XWD four-by setup that directs drive power to the front and rear axles and between the rear wheels via an "intelligent" rear-diff.[via World Car Fans] Update: We've got the high resolution shots posted HERE

<![CDATA[ Over the Back Fence: More on a Small Ute for Saab? ]]>

Whispers about the upcoming Saab 9-4x mini ute and its European Cadillac BLX cousin have been circulating via those lovable sorts at Trollhattan Saab. Now, the Swedish mafia media is in on the act. According to Teknikens V rld — which also commissioned the rendering above — Saab's 9-3 based X3 contender may be shown in concept form as early as the next Detroit show. It's also expected to spawn a similar Caddy for the European market. It may even make it in time to join the deluge of premium small SUVs like the Audi Q5 and Mercedes MLK headed to market.

<![CDATA[ Predicting the Saab 9-4x: Replacing the 9-7x? ]]>

The Saab watchers at Trollhattan Saab rounded up the latest dirt on the next rebadged (sorry, guys) appropriated GM product to round out the Saab line. Word came down late last year that a new crossover would join the Swedish bunch, culled from GM's upcoming line of midsize CUVs, like the Buick Entourage and Saturn Outlook. Now, Wards talked with Saab Boss Jay Spenchian, who says such a vehicle would substitute the truck-based 9-7X SUV after GM updates the platform that underpins it. Wards uses the vague construction "slots in for" instead of "replace," however, so we're far from definite on this. Still, TS has more to say, as per usual.
