    I gotta admit, I like seeing how it's sitting on chrome and rubber bands, cuz that always incites riotous behavior in Teh Jalops.

    I say crack pipe, because I am smart.

    Because I am dumb, I don't know what sodium-filled valves are. What are they, and how does the sodium stick around? This is a real question, and yes I could google it, but I am busy rolling in my own filth. I'm guessing the metal is somehow infused with sodium, like the lime flavor in those new weird beers, but I don't get how that helps anything. #mercedesbenz450sel69

    @eggwich del fiero: Has something to do with transferring the heat from the edge of the valve to the center. I think the sodium liquefies and sets up a convection, cooling the hot edges. The stem then acts as a heat sink, releasing the heat into the head. I'm pretty sure that's what's going on. #mercedesbenz450sel69

    I'm giving it Nice Price on the engine alone. A 6.9 MB mill in good shape is worth a lot of dough, pop it and the gearbox out and you can crash the world steel market by scrapping the rest of the chassis. And why would you? Five bucks worth of heavy duty staples from Home Depot, a $10 tarp from Harbor Freight, and you've got your all-weather third world tyrantmobile ready to go. #mercedesbenz450sel69

    Jalopnik, you tease! You run two of my very favorite cars ever back to back and both of them are no-brainer crack pipes.

    This might be a NP just for parts if the suspension is original AND in good working order, but I think the chances of that are just about zero. #mercedesbenz450sel69

    Crack pipe. The roof chop destroyed the car and a parts car isn't worth $5000 unless it's for a really high dollar project. The 6.9 and 450SEL just aren't that rare. #mercedesbenz450sel69

    @dculberson: The ad says it's a factory chop with chassis reinforcements added in. That might be unadulterated BS, but it sure looks like a clean job from the admittedly lousy photos. I'd have to get close to it to be sure. #mercedesbenz450sel69

    @Elhigh: Agreed that you certainly can't tell without looking at it. But he said "factory appearance" and not that it's a factory job. Done "based on a German TUV approved blueprint." Not exactly the same as an actual factory chop, and my personal opinion - complete unsubstantiated guesswork of course - is that it's crap. Regardless it's got no top which has to seriously harm its value to someone looking to actually drive it. #mercedesbenz450sel69

    Aside from the fact that it's had the "MTV Ulgy Wand" waved over it A LOT, those 6.9s are insanely expensive to maintain.

    Everything depends on the quality of the hackjob. If this was done by a top body shop with all the proper reinforcing installed, then it might be Nice Price. A cheapo sleazo job? Crack Pipe. I'm not giving anyone the benefit of the doubt so I vote latter.

    There's been a lot of teeth-gnashing here over this car. However, there have been worse things done to a W116 Mercedes.
