On the other hand, I've been bitching about how the X6 would be a tolerable car if it wasn't jacked up and donked, and here it is in all its tolerable mediocrity.
@Stoatmaster: My uncle had an SD1 when I was a kid (so pre-1980, I guess). He drove it from the UK to my parents' place in France: I thought it was amazing! It was yellow, my favourite colour at the time...
Since then, I've realized what an amazing feat it must have been to keep it running long enough for a cross continent trip.
Porsche and BMW must have some silent war going on to see who can design an uglier sedan. Don't get me wrong, I love wagons, shooting brakes and hatchbacks but this thing just looks like a melting turd.
It was meant to be a literal styling reference, not an actual segment war...unless the segment is a newly created "Dachshund-like vehicle pinching a loaf."
I can't say I hate it, but it looks like a one-off tuning shop's take on the 5-series Touring. Why BMW decided to build it, I don't know. Maybe so you can do some light gardening under the rear glass?
Ash, I think this is for Dodge Magnum fans who "don't buy domestic" I think. I would much rather go Audi S6 Avant. No, I am not receiving payments from Scott Keogh and company.
@Al Navarro: Not that you can even get a Magnum anymore (new). I'd also go S6 if I had the means. In reality, I'm keeping my eyes open for a gently driven Volvo V70R. (nothing against Audi, but I've had 15 years of nothing but VAG cars and it's time for a change).
You do know that I'm planning on buying a V70R and holding it for my daughters, right? I see so many driven by older folks up in my neck of the woods...so I have faith that I will be able to buy a low-mileage "adult driven" example in the next few years.
I ran a 850 non-turbo wagon, manual trans, in the mid nineties in NYC. I loved that thing, but you had to downshift to 4th on some of the steeper inclines on 78 westbound. I trust that twice the hp in the V70R version will negate the need to do so.
@skierpage: "A station wagon could be the best solution... nah, we're a bunch of smug cunts. And hatchbacks definitely don't have any sort of economy-car stigma."

Seriously, this car does not look that bad. I will wait until I see it in the metal, in a few different colors before deciding for sure.

The first of its kind, apparently.
I'm not sure that statement holds up to intense scrutiny.

But, unless it has some hitherto undreamt of hovercraft option, then of course you're right.

Reminds me of the Rover SD1/3500...
Also, not sure what's going on with the rear quarter lights, the whole glazing arrangement there needs looking at.
Other than that, looks as though it will appeal to the conservative money that actually buys these things new.
And seems like it might be more impressive in the metal, as these things often are.

Agreed. Since nothing about the X-6 is good one can surmise that an emulator of said vehicle can be just as bad, if not worse.
Or something like that.

Any idea of price points on cherry V70Rs?

For some reason, I can't even picture that car in my head. Though I did see a new 6 sedan on the road today and thought "That's not bad looking..."

"A sedan isn't roomy enough.
A station wagon could be the best solution... (contemptuously) noeeeuuuuww that has too much utility character.
Maybe we could build it higher. It's just more impressive."
