    Fog has caused some terrific pileups on the autobahn.

    Also why euro cars have the rear foglight. It's useful...I use mine on occasion, esp. with the freezing fog you get in December in the great white north.

    @brandegee:

    Woah! Are you saying that American cars, with all their mandatory airbags, crumple zones, ejector seats, don't coome with a rear fog light?

    Tell me it isn't so.

    Interesting 53 cars crash,
    50 of them are riceballs and all drivers are missing as they do not even have green cards much less valid drivers license :-(

    Word is if Weds was not gay day let's stay home and do some poking the crash count would have been 10 times higher.

    @vetteracer:

    Having to ask if this is satire suggests that it didn't work.

    Alternatively, you genuinely think that is some sort of observational comedy.

    In which case, you are a worthless fuckrash.

    Some years back we had a pileup with 99 vehicles all mashed together on I-75. If you can't see very far, slow down until your vision distance is in accordance with your stopping distance. Duh.

    Afton Mountain near here is notorious for fog; the road it "replaced" is a not so much lower but low enough to be beneath the clouds. Afton has runway lights and lots of warning flashers but still gets some serious pile ups. It's bad enough being tensed up about what might be in front of you, crawling along at 1 mph; add in the dread of what might be stupidly rolling up behind you at 45 mph in zero vis, and it's a bitch of a drive.

    I used to work at this TV station as a Director. Every winter there is at least 1 or 2 bad accidents due to fog.

    It never seize to amaze me how stupid people are in Central California. It is truly a region filled with the worst drivers. Drunken apes are better drivers than people in Central Cal. They merge without looking, can't pace for shit, drive at s[peed limit on the left lane, etc... Anthing that you're not supposed to do, they do it here. What do you expect from a bunch of country bumpkins?

    And we see it regularly that people would speed by at 70mph in thick fog, with no lights on.

    Moral of the story: If you're travelling through Central California, make sure you have moron insurance.

    @BMRFILE: You've not experienced tule fog have you? Lights have no effect on the stuff. But it has a detrimental effect on common sense.

    BTW, on 99 they tailgate in the fog hoping the cars in front know where they're going. I-5 is the same only the speed limit's 70mph.

    @joneez: Yeah. If you slow down (because you can't see), you'll get creamed. Fortunately, highway 99 only goes to wack-ass places like Stockton.

    Either the big white square at the top of my window is a photo of an incredibly foggy scene, or it hasn't loaded on my browser, or it's an extraordinarily clever gag on the part of Ben.

    I don't want to hit refresh in case it's just the browser. Either way i found it amusing.

    Not the crash though. That's bad.

    Living in Rhode Island once drove home in fog so thick you couldn't see the road. So we had a friend walking the white line and we just followed him. It took forever to get where we were going but we got there.

    Oh, and didn't see another car on the road that night. No one else was crazy enough to go out with it looking like that.

    @jduffy13: I met fog like that coming home from work one night. I had to open the car door and look down for the white lines on the road. Took forever to go 5 miles.

    You guys at Jalop Central keep giving me so many examples of why not to live in Cali, I am beginning to think this is social engineering. Scare enough of the buggers away, and maybe the roads won't be so crowded. Well done!

    Only two people needed hospitalization.

    Federal gov't: I think our cars are safe enough, thank you. Do not give us any more requirements designed to increase safety that add weight and make it harder to meet your CAFE requirements.
