    Honestly, I'm disappointed.

    I was seriously hoping for at least 600 hp.

    Ah well, nothing a K&N air filter and an exhaust tip can't fix.

    If I throw on a big enough wing, I might be pushing 625 horses, 650 horses with the right stickers.

    It's like a Flex with direction and attitude. Sort of compelling, in that high-waisted, gun slit windows kind of way that's been successful for the 300. I doubt they'll sell enormous numbers of these, even without the carpocalypso going on, but it may drive a lot of traffic to the showrooms and help to move some regular Cherokees, and that's not a bad thing.

    I really like the look of the front end. It's nice to see that the design guys at Jeep are still coming to work, and doing their job the right way. The engine can go away though. I would rather see a reworking of the old straight six, with now internals, and a twin turbo set-up. And of course a nice Cummins Diesel option as well. But that's just me. Or more accurately, that's just a small fraction of the motoring public. So who knows what last gasp this fish has in it while it flops around out of water. Hopefully Fiat will bring us more reasonable vehicles, once they get distribution through Chryslererus dealerships. I am certainly not holding my breath.

    So now all Chrysler products are auditioning for the remake of Death Proof? Really if I were a chick (it's OK if I say it that way) those blacked out neanderthal headlights would look like the equivalent of… well a neanderthal brow with blackened bloodshot eyes. No matter how new and shiny. A car shouldn't look like it wants to hurt you.

    I love the SRT8s but I can only imagine Chrysler trying to justify this to their new "Congressional" board of directors. (When I imagine it with Barney Frank's "accent" it's even more fun).

    That hood scoop is anything but subtle, and at the risk of shitting on the party parade, I just can't see it happening in this climate. Not that I don't want it to, nothing could be farther from the truth; after all, if the X6M is allowed to exist, then this thing certainly should be.

    And yes, I agree about the looks. I don't think the 2011 Grand Cherokee looks bad by any measure, but dammit, as a former owner of a 74 Cherokee, why couldn't they have done at least a little to incorporate a little heritage in the design?

    Nothing overtly retro, just a few subtle cues.

    @Ray Wert:

    Headlights? I spent some time checking out the design on netcarshow.com, but I couldn't see anything about the indicative of past styling cues. Personally, one of the things I miss most about the styling of my old Jeep was long, straight lines, like semi-utilitarian vehicle should have and a simple, clean instrument panel.
