I'm not defending the use of a SBC in a hot rod. I'm merely stating a fact. There are a shitload of them powering everything, even in a large portion of hot rod Fords. #ecoboost

I pick up a few magazines on a regular basis, Vintage Truck being a particular favorite, and a recurring theme in that is restoration vs. "hot rodding." Seems the diehard restoration nuts have no patience for anyone who doesn't get bolts made by the original manufacturer still in business after the automaker contract ran out back in the fifties. The hotrodders are actually restomodders, people who try to retain the original look while updating the vehicle to a more modern standard. You get better driveability, brakes that actually work, and the decent fuel mileage that comes with a modern EFI system. Not all the modders do that, but enough that the restoration nuts just have a cow over it.
Me, I want to be able to hop into that 1950 Ford F1 and fire it right up. No crank-crank-crank, just vroom and off you go. Modern gears, all synchronized. Turn it off and it stops, no puttering and farting to a reluctant halt.
So finding this awesome old coupe with the great shape just rocks. Repowering it with Ford's new halo engine is fantastic. Now it's as powerful a retro ride as you could hope for, it cruises on probably only half the fuel flow it used to - I see no downside here. The diehard restoration guys can sit on it, this is a great project, and I wish it was mine. #ecoboost
