I'm surprised anyone gets anything done all weekend what with all the tomfoolery and silliness that goes on at these affairs. I'd be cracking up so hard I'd be spilling my beer all over the place.
And, they drive real fast in shitty cars. What could be more sublimely perfect?
@Super Traction Engine: A custom van shouldn't be a problem. At Nelson Ledges this year, there was a van racing (when it wasn't in the pits). Although it might have earned an exemption due to its caminoization.
Either the van or the truck might push the envelope on the 4200lb GVW limit, but as long as it squeaks under, you'll be fine. Otherwise, get an exemption before you spend the time and money prepping it for race duty.
@eggwich del fiero: They had a matching blue RX-7 with "Kens" in mullet wigs and blue jackets with similar slogans. I wanted to get photos of those guys, but it was just too hectic at the race.
Crap!! I'm so disappointed our shirt didn't make the picture cut, even after Jay professed his love for it! Substandard Racing will have to step it up for Gator-o-rama. #tshirt
Well, it would be nice if the LeMons powers that be would use a holiday weekend to schedule a 24 hr race that isn't on the Jewish sabbath. While there aren't that many race fans in Monsey or Lakewood, I'm pretty sure that I could put together a Shomer Shabbas racing team that, like Walter Sobchak, doesn't roll on Shabbas.
Maybe we could even find a Sabra to race. Here's the Sabra that Jacob Shalit races: #tshirt
@Murilee Martin: Back in the early 70s, the word on the Sussita (Hebrew for "little horse") was that camels and other animals found the fiberglass to be tasty.
FWIW, Henry Ford II was a major supporter of Israel (in part due to the influence of his good friend, Max Fisher) and in the 1970s there was a small Ford plant in Israel assembling knocked down Escort kits.
The only racing that would be permitted on Shabbas would racing to the hospital.
Between Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, it should be possible to run a LeMons on Sunday-Monday. #tshirt
@bozoerrebbe: Well, talk to Jay about it; if he's willing to spray-paint "No Fat Shiksas" on an Opel, he might be willing to put on a Sabbath-friendly race. #tshirt
@bozoerrebbe: While I'm in the camp of the agnostics, there are a lot of "Christians" who think there should be a Saturday Monday session. And one of the most picturesque tracks in the country only runs on Saturday, and Monday, and that would be Lime Rock Park.
Because of some local restrictions, Lime Rock can't hold any racing on Sunday.... Period. #tshirt
@bozoerrebbe: Don't get too excited about Henry Ford. He was, shall we say, not entirely opposed to Hitler and they exchanged autographed photos. #tshirt
@skaycog: Clearly it needs to not only be a quilt, but then turned into a snuggie, so that you could comfortably wear that much awesomeness and not get cold reaching for the remote. #tshirt
@Murilee Martin: Old t-shirts get stretchy and stretchy stuff doesn't work well on quilts. I had an old collection of 60s/early 70s Fender t-shirts--Fender has brought back some of them, but not all of them, strangely enough. We tried various ways to save them but the only one left is "The World's Favorite Love Machine" with some cartoonish birds and bees on it--after seeing the rest fail as pillows, throws and such, I can tell you that this kind of material is really made for t-shirts, period and I'm glad I didn't risk the "Love Machine" one, which is currently in hiding in the bottom of a drawer. #tshirt
If the Perps don't want them, I see potential in putting these bribes to good use. For each race, a pool of shirts could be put into a raffle for all attending or on the internet. Sell raffle tickets and donate the money to charity or a scholarship fund at the end of the year. #tshirt
@Hi_my_name_is: Jay uses his house as the LeMons HQ warehouse, and he was running out of room for stuff like this.
I'll probably end up giving most of these shirts away as contest prizes or something. Maybe a couple dozen I'll keep (I always wear team shirts, preferably those of IOE winners, while judging), but this quantity of T-shirts becomes a white elephant pretty fast. #tshirt

Classic.
South Park, I found, was disturbingly accurate as a documentary-type thing on the Jefferson/Park county area.
Still funny-as-hell, though.

@bozoerrebbe: There must be something in the fine print about Sabbath racing being OK in a Sabra. Though I'd prefer to see a LeMons Sussita. #tshirt

I have two suggestions for your T-shirts:
l. Tape or pin them to your garage walls.
2. Have some quilts made from them. Then you could raffle them off and donate proceeds to charity. #tshirt
