    @Van Sarockin, rogue trebuchet: You've never heard of a Lotus Esprit V8 obviously, but horsepower is not even the point. Lotus has made some very fast cars with only moderate horsepower because they always made them very light. More manufacturers are struggling to adopt this philosophy.

    @superveloce: Right, for the last couple of years of a nearly thirty year run.


    I didn't say that I had a problem with low powered Loti or that they were bad cars. quite the opposite. Simply making the point that Lotus' road cars have not been synonymous with large horsepower, making this a substantial change in outlook.

    So it's going to have that legendary Lotus handling, stupidly powerful engines, and Toyota reliability.


    Explain to me again how this is a British car?


    Oh wait, that's right, it's because that V10 apparently tends to explode into flames unexpectedly.


    Whew, I thought we were going to have to throw out our cruel British stereotype for a minute there.

    @Deartháir - Now with more SingoFinger™!: Have we really seen inside yet? Maybe it'll be all burled wood and creamy beige leather, with a tea tray on the dashboard. Perhaps it'll just be outdated when it gets to the market, but in a charming way.

    @My A Arm: You say that like it's a bad thing. I WANT my supercars to have a fold-down tea-tray in the dashboard. Preferably with a matching tea-set. And some burled wood. And some nice thick wool carpets.

    @Ambiguously Unfunny Serial Killer: If you think about it for a few seconds more though, it does seem to make sense. There are lots of engineers at Toyota, and I'm sure there are at least a few groups of them who really want to see high powered engines in nicely handling sports cars, but the marketing and accounting masters at Toyota won't let them build such a beast. Lotus, on the other hand, has lots of chassis and suspension engineers, but nobody to build engines, so the Toyota engineers get to build fancy powerful sports-car engines, and the Lotus people get engines for their sports cars, and the accountants at Toyota stay happy because they get extra money.

    If you look at engines sourced from other companies, they're often either exactly stock or with commonly available aftermarketish parts (like AMG-sourced engines), because the people who want that engine are going to be competing against the cars built by the engine manufacturer. Toyota and Lotus don't have that problem at all, nobody will ever confuse a Lotus anything with a Camry.
