I'm waiting until the headlights actually are A pillars--fender to roof, baby. That's style!

    Can you see me now?

I want one in ten or fifteen years, so I can say I have a beater Beat.

Then maybe do an engine swap to a 2-piece rear main 305 out of an 84 Buick Riviera, but with a 290 duration cam and a quadrajet perched on a 2 inch carb adapter to facilitate using the original 2 bbl manifold.

Then I'll drag race it. It still won't be very fast, and it'll handle like shit, so I'll still get beaten in my beater Beat.

So it comes with a lady? Must be an option. Of course, hot chicks dig tiny, slow fuel miserly cars. The owner will have to "beat" the ladies away with a stick.

Wow, given how many Jalopnik commentators dropped a kidney when the beat wasn't coming stateside, I am surprised at all the Beat hate that is getting spewed now that it is.

Oh, and did any of you NOT see the wildly popular concept before making your pseudo-glib comments about headlights and color?

You do realize that this is Jalopnik, and is an internet blog, right? Some people simply like to have something to complain about at all times, and some people just try and have a sense of humor about things. I, for one, enjoy the whole humor thing.

Ever notice that American's often comment on small

utilitarian cars from an imperious vantage of

    wealth and privilege?

Give the recession a few more months... let the economic juggernaut impail itself even deeper into the earth's crust past some layer that hasn't seen visitors since the Neoproterozoic Era...

Then this car will look a little more... er...

@Packa: That is because America is full of self-important, self-absorbed shitheads who think they know everything and are entitled to comment on any subject as an expert.

You know what is most annoying about people who think they are smarter than everyone else? It's that they couldn't possibly be smarter than I am.

Yes, I am part of the problem, but at least I have a certain degree of self awareness regarding my douchebaggery.

Of the three show cars Chevrolet displayed at the New York Auto Show a couple years back, the Beat was my favorite. I just hope they don't "Volt" it, which is to build anticipation with the show car then roll out the production model that bears almost no resemblance to it.

So the Beat is "On again?"

I think the trouble GM will have with this car is that it has no "Euro Cred". A Fiesta is cool because you can pretend to be Twiggy, or whatever passes for a Brit Celeb nowadays. This is just a small car from GM.

Overall, I still think the Groove would have been a little smarter to launch into our current CUV-crazed market. Plus, it would look more at home on Chevy lots. Also, it seems to be popular with Whores:
