@B3ND3R: Nonsense. We had a loaded LaCrosse CXL in the frame shop for measurements yesterday. It was a hair over $35K and, from the looks of it, Lexus should be VERY nervous.
Maybe they are just guessing, or maybe they know something we don't.
Personally, I don't see a loaded $25K in this car's future since it seems to be gunning for the TSX ($29,310). Then again, Acura doesn't have billions of dollars in gubment money to help it be "competitive".
You know, now that there's a manual option, this thing's kinda tempting, if i was in the market for a TSX, Passat or Volvo. But I'm not. Nor will I ever be.
They should have called it Insignia, though. This is a nice car, and the Regal name is only going to remind people of a car that was decidedly not nice.

@spuy767: When it came out? Yeah, it was a nice, clean design. And the supercharged 3800 was and still is a great powerplant. Unfortunately, the interior was wretched and Buick let the car hang around unchanged way too long. Basically, GM did everything they possibly could to kill the Regal name from 1988 until now and all of a sudden it's a world-beating entry-level luxury/sport sedan. I've come to expect this sort of thing, but it's still hard to swallow.
This car should be the Insignia and the LaCrosse (a name that is 10x worse than Regal) should be the Invicta or Electra. Oh, and both models need a Gran Sport version.

I notice that there is some hesitation to liking this car because of Buick's past target demographic. While it is understandable, I challenge those people to look past the badge and more at the car it's on.
If it is truly bothersome, have the salesperson cover all of the Buick logos in masking tape, and have them meet you with the car in a part of town where nobody will recognize you.
Part of choosing the right car is deciding which owner stereotype you are most comfortable living with. Every car from every brand comes with sort of stigma about the buyer. Shockingly, there are Prius owners that have never been to a Grateful Dead concert or smoked anything more mind-altering than tobacco. There are BMW owners who somehow manage to park in less than two handicap spaces at once. But those people still buy those cars because they fit their criteria perfectly.
It's relatively attractive, but gorgeous? No. I really don't see anything remarkable with this car, except that it does a nice job of filling in the gap where GM used to want Saab to be.
@brandegee: The situation did not allow me to capture the car properly. The only one that didn't have camouflage on it was the one above, which was not allowed out on the drive. Leave it to GM to put a great new car in the shadows, next to a pillar, under sodium lights.
In the USA, there's so much backlash against the old man image of Buick, but in China, it's a pretty luxurious midrange brand and somewhat energetic with their lineup.
That said, China didn't get a chance with the land barges of yesteryears.
@jodark: What few people may realize, is that a large percentage of the folks who designed, built and ran the foundries for GM emmigrated from southern Germany, Eastern Europe, and Italy. GM has had a large cadre of talent for generations.
It's those darned WASP bean counters that have been keeping them all bottled up. Now that there appears to be an incentive to like, actually SUCCEED at this competition thing, the hybrid vigor of all those variagated mutts can be turned loose. I hope it works.
I go to work on foot and I usually see 2 or 3 Opel Insignias parking or moving around and I always think "these cars look better than almost any BMWs or Mercedes". I love it! And I'm quite happy about you Americans getting a taste of it too!
@YankBoffin: I actually saw one of these in the wild a few months back. Without the badging, I would have been hard pressed to ID it. In hindsight, it was almost as heinous as the Cimarron. Almost.
@YankBoffin: I was almost tempted to pick up on a 2000 Catera a few years back as a daily driver. The massive depreciation made the purchase price cheap, it doesn't look that bad, it's sort of sporty, and there's lots of goodies. A little digging around for info convinced me that would have been a dumb move.
How does it compare with the Malibu in ride and handling? I was very impressed with a rental Malibu a couple years back and have since hoped the General would apply the same level of engineering to a smaller sedan. Perhaps this is why they hadn't.
I particularly like the interior, which I think is at last better than the re-done Lincoln MKZ.
I don't know about gorgeous, though. It does certainly possess pleasing curves and is very elegant, I think it falls just short of gorgeous. It just doesn't seem to have the right presence, at least not in pictures.
I will look forward to seeing it in person at the LA Autoshow.
It's still a Buick and that blue hair image is going to be tough to shake. Kill the brand and launch Holden as a US brand hell bent on going head to head with the Japanese and German luxury sport models.
There is no future in Buick other than going the way of the Oldsmobile.
@adp113: Do you not understand that the bluehair numbers are increasing at accelerating rates? Do you not think that having a division that caters to that demographic is a good idea?
@beercheck: But the problem is this. The 80+ crowd now driving Buick's came of age when having a Buick in the driveway was a sign of success. Now you take the baby boomer generation that made their money in the 80's, the defined success as a BMW or Mercedes in the driveway. So as the baby boomers are getting older they are not going to be buying a Buick. Why? Because a Buick was what their father drove and as they age the will continue to park BMWs, Infinities, Mercedes, and Lexus in their driveway's as this is their mark of success. Do you see many people in their 50's and early 60's driving a Buick? At 50 years old driving a Buick is not a sign of success, it's a sign of failure.
Wow, a Euro-US transfer that hasn't had it's suspenders altered? (there is a pun there)
I know I'm a weirdo euro-type but it does seem odd to me that it's being branded as a Buick. I guess Vaux/Opel sits in a branding blackspot for GM in the US.
Nice one for getting a drive though. I'm liking that Jalopnik are getting more of an opportunity to do reviews though I'm also incredibly jealous at the same time!

On the other hand, the reason that we don't have them anymore is that people didn't buy them because they looked like, well, sleepers.
