Still want, though.

I want a car that brings to mind having sex in front of a horse, and then mutilating it.
That's the car I want, and here it is.

Remember when Lexus and Infiniti came onto the scene and displaced mecerdes and bmw on everything but the highend..
Somewhere, right now, there is a bunch of high level meetings happening at toyota, nissan and mercedes where some managers are getting grilled about just how the hell the koreans are doing this!
Good on Hyundai..
I like it.. I hope it's as overbuilt as the SC300 (Toyota Soarer) when it came to our shores.
I can't wait for them to get cocky and stick a "pony" badge on the genesis coupe just for shits and giggles.

Hyundai has done well to create cars that offer everything their japanese rivals do, but at a lower price. That's certainly something to be proud of.

Hmmm
WALMART does the same thing...
Leaves ya with a bad taste in ya mouth... only difference is price and your perception.

Let's hope.
It's not a bad looking car per se, but I just don't dig the the whole mash-up of Mercedes/Bentley/Lexus/BMW thing that rules the styling of both the Genesis Sedan and this new Equus.

Barring the Lexus LS, neither Lexus nor even Acura were quite this shameless, though.
Although, I do agree with you on the business plan aspect of it.

Hmmm
Like pretty much every vehicle in their lineup... I can see cues from pretty much every cometitor.
The last gen Accord in the Sonata
Their Genesis is the S class
But its becoming "Car design and marketing for dummies".
Ya enter the market with a compact a mid sized and an SUV, and for the luxury side, ya give so much quantity in do-dads that consumers will forget about the poor design or quality of the vehicle.
It really doesnt strike any cord with me at all.
Few drivers drive a Kia. Then again THAT MARKET.. cant afford to drive much else.
And the warranty... ALL SMOKE AND MIRRORS.
Ive said it before..
Ya dont pull customers in with the warranty. And Hyun/Kia been doing that for years.
Its only VERY recently that the vehicles have anything to say for themselves.
01/05/09
And WHAT MARKET do you belong to?
Maybe to meant it to and maybe you didn't, but that came off as a pretty damn arrogant comment.
I agree with you about the styling, as that is the point I had attempted to make in my previous posts. I also agree with you about the quality issues apparent in Korean cars for a long time, but I think that they have done quite well for themselves in the past four years.
As for smoke and mirrors, well, apparently the same can be said of Honda racing.
01/05/09
Hmmm
I belong to the market that wouldnt in my drunkest of stupors.. would ever consider.. buying a HYUNDAI.
As for arrogant...
Everything HYUNDAI has done in their marketing and PR for the past 10yrs.. has been blatent arrogance.

Did you get dumped by a Korean girl in high school or something?
It's one thing if the car doesn't meet your personal taste. It doesn't do much for me either. But to sit hear and throw up a wall of meaningless trash talk that has little to no basis in reality just because something does not fit in with your personal tastes is arrogant and childish. Quite simply, your opinion, as important as it is, is not the final word in the world. So you don't like the car. Provide some rational foundation for it or get over it.
Also, attempting to put down others as a result of their socio-economic status in order to make yourself feel better is both tasteless and extremely poor form.

The Excel was by all reports a cheap piece of shit, but a friend of mine bought one new when they came out and she drove it for 22 years before it finally died.

@Accordforall: "Ya enter the market with a compact a mid sized and an SUV..."
Actually, Hyundai entered the US market in 1986 with just a subcompact. [en.wikipedia.org] A little research goes a long way.
The Excel was widely known as a piece of shit when it came out, but a friend of mine bought one new and drove it for 22 years with very few major problems before the motor finally died.
