OH OH OH HEY GUYS GUESS WHAT! From 1984 to 1987, the Ford Tempo and its Mercury sibling the Topaz, were designed to take absolutely no damage in front end collisions 5MPH or under. Zero. Not a dime in damage. At the time, car makers were only required to have bumpers that would withstand a 3MPH collision.
"The main difference is that the 2010 Legacy's front reinforcement bar is a little taller, more than 6 inches wider, and more than 1½ inches higher off the ground. This kept the Legacy's bumper engaged with the barrier during the test, preventing it from sliding under the barrier. "
So basically, as long as you hit just like the IIHS says you should hit, it will cost you $3,000 less now. However, if you hit any other way, you're screwed all over again. #subarulegacy
They've also managed, much to everyone's surprise, to move the front end of the Legacy from "kinda f'ed up" to "completely awkward and fugly". #subarulegacy

I think what Mr. Japanese Poncherello was trying to say is, "We really wanted to style the car after the Audi Sport Quattro, the most beautiful racing car of all time..."
In a world where there is a Japan All GT Series, a DTM, a British Touring Car Championship and an Australian V8 Supercars, we in the U.S. get NASCAR and its "Car of Tomorrow" heap. Man, we have lost our way.

@mr_dude: Well after I bought the original GT I have always been eagerly awaiting the next one. I was at EBgames for the launch of GT4 since I payed in full 2 years before that game came out.
@mr_dude: Yes I am. I even picked up some bootleg copies of there "concept" games from the local ethnic area just to get some new content while I wait. Im planning on getting a psp and GTMobile just to get some early online game play on seattle and citta di aria!
The "closest" stock aspect is ironically the engine. Everything else is one custom offs. Just look at Super GT as an engineering sex orgy inbetween FIA GT, LM Prototype and Tube frames.
Basically anything goes as long as the engine is in production by that company. So lets say you want to enter a Toyota Euro Corolla. It would be allowed even if it had a V8 engine from a Land Cruiser.
@IronicalBalls: Exactly, this is like the Japanese DTM, but even more nutty. I was ever so fortunate to catch a Super GT race in '07 at Fuji Speedway. It was awesome.
Fun little tidbit: The GT500 class cars sounded like Sebulba's pod racer as they trundled down pit lane on their speed limiters.

@TENGRAM et. al:
I certainly agree with form following function, but there are exceptions to the rule.
This is particularly salient when you consider practically every race car on earth is insanely beautiful. This... this butch is just the opposite end of the spectrum.
A pragmatist might say that a race car is really just a billboard for advertisers, and then consider the roi of an ugly winner (or ugly loser).
Whatever the case, I respect its automotive brutality but wouldn't dragon it after all the beers in the world.

It is quite possible the most awkwardly disjointed design in decades. And those aren't flattering decades either. #subarulegacy

In Japanese, of course.
