BMW's own description of this car from the concept video:

    "A sedan isn't roomy enough.

A station wagon could be the best solution... (contemptuously) noeeeuuuuww that has too much utility character.

Maybe we could build it higher. It's just more impressive."

    Aggghhh!

Another overpriced niche vehicle in search of a customer. BMW would be better off spending money on engine/drive train upgrades.

Hatchbacks always make practical sense though trying to sell them outside the UK is a pain in the butt.

I saw a 5-series yesterday that made me turn my head due to a couple of unusual things:

    1. It was a Touring (wagon), which eliminates the awkward rear end.
    2. It was Not black. Not silver. And not white. It was a deep green (a la British Racing).

It was like a whole new car. Stunning vehicle.

Sorry, but to me 'hatchbacks' are always associated with smaller, lower end cars--I am from an era when sedans and wagons ruled, and when there was a balance between the front and rear of the car instead of a swollen bubble. I miss trunk lids/boot decks/whatever you prefer to call them.
So I'm picturing this with a trunk--jeez, people, how hard was it to get things out of a trunk? Was it that difficult? Would you really rather have to stoop under the hatch and founder around? What the hell are you hauling these days?
/end rant. Sorry. I need more coffee. Or brefass scotch.

    Hmmm, large five-door body? Check.

    Six Cylinder Engine? Check.

    Rear-wheel drive, and IRS? Check.

Ungainly styling and questionable positioning within the current product lineup? Check.

What we have here appears to be a. . . Merkur Scorpio
